Chapter 6: Did You Get Your Marriage Certificate?
A bicycle braked urgently in front of Bai Shuruo, and another one stopped right behind it.
Bai Shuruo looked up, her eyes first meeting those of her ex-boyfriend, Wang Xuekai, which were indifferent.
Wang Xuekai was also a "campus heartthrob" type of figure; Bai Shuruo used to think he looked clean and very handsome, but she didn't know if it was because she had spent all of yesterday looking at Han Yangting, but now looking at Wang Xuekai again, she felt he was merely delicate-looking.
The two had broken up for over a year, so Bai Shuruo generously nodded at him to acknowledge him.
"Shuruo, why are you here? Haven't you found an internship yet?" the girl Zhang Yuanyuan asked while holding her bicycle in front.
Zhang Yuanyuan was the department's recognized "department beauty," with long, straight black hair; she liked fitness, had a curvy figure, and often walked around campus wearing a white dress, attracting the attention of most boys whenever she appeared.
Bai Shuruo said, "I don't have a placement yet. Haven't you already started your internship? Why are you still at school today?"
"The company is taking a compensatory day off today, so I came back to school to take a look," Zhang Yuanyuan said.
Zhang Yuanyuan and Bai Shuruo had a pretty good relationship; the two often worked together on the department's blackboard newspapers, with Zhang Yuanyuan doing the drawing and Bai Shuruo responsible for the writing.
Zhang Yuanyuan pushed her bicycle back to Wang Xuekai's side, then said to Bai Shuruo with a look of guilt, "Shuruo, I came back with the senior."
Wang Xuekai raised his eyebrows and deliberately turned his head away to avoid looking at Bai Shuruo.
The two of them were wearing the same series of couple's outfits; if Bai Shuruo couldn't see their relationship now, she would be a fool.
She smiled, "You two are together now, you're quite a good match!"
"He and I only got together after you two broke up," Zhang Yuanyuan explained to Bai Shuruo again.
"Mm, I know. The senior and I weren't a good fit anyway; you two are a better match," Bai Shuruo laughed generously.
Zhang Yuanyuan then took Bai Shuruo's hand, "Shuruo, thank you for your blessing."
Bai Shuruo smiled again.
Back then, it was Wang Xuekai who pursued her first; she felt he was an excellent boy, so she agreed to date and see how it went, but before she could fall in love with him, he suddenly proposed a breakup.
Less than two months after the breakup, she heard rumors about him and Zhang Yuanyuan, only they had never made it public.
So, there was nothing to regret.
Zhang Yuanyuan got on her bike and signaled to Wang Xuekai that it was time to go. But Wang Xuekai said to Zhang Yuanyuan, "You go first, I have a few words I want to say to Bai Shuruo."
Zhang Yuanyuan's pretty, palm-sized face revealed an expression of disbelief.
But she could only listen to Wang Xuekai; she must care about him quite a lot.
Zhang Yuanyuan rode a short distance and waited for Wang Xuekai under a willow tree by the lake.
Only then did Wang Xuekai turn to look at Bai Shuruo, sizing her up from head to toe before saying, "Bai Shuruo, is there no one in this world worth you caring about?"
"…?" Bai Shuruo asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
Wang Xuekai smiled with disdain, then pointed at the bun on her head and then at her white canvas shoes: "Dressing like a high school student every day, I don't know who you're trying to look dowdy for."
Bai Shuruo: "..."
"Senior, we've already broken up, is there a need to insult me like this?" Bai Shuruo asked directly, "Besides, what kind of hair I tie or what clothes I wear has nothing to do with you, right?"
"Of course it has nothing to do with me, I'm just worried you won't be able to get married in this lifetime," Wang Xuekai said sarcastically.
"Then that's going to disappoint you, Senior; I just happened to get my marriage certificate yesterday," Bai Shuruo said with a proud look.
She was already a married woman; a married woman didn't care about her appearance.
Once she started working later and had money, it wouldn't be too late to buy pretty clothes.
For some reason, when Wang Xuekai heard she was already married, he was completely stunned, "You got a marriage certificate? Really or fake?"
"Of course it's real."
"You weren't sold off by that stepmother of yours, were you?"
"So what if I was sold? In any case, it's good to be married off," Bai Shuruo pouted her little mouth and said.
Wang Xuekai got on his bicycle and threw back a line: "The guy who married you must be blind."
Bai Shuruo: "..."
Forget it, the person was already gone anyway; there was no point in arguing with him.
"Senior, what did you... say to Shuruo?" As soon as Wang Xuekai approached, Zhang Yuanyuan asked immediately.
"Nothing." Wang Xuekai only slowed his bicycle down slightly beside her, but he didn't stop to wait for her.
Zhang Yuanyuan looked back at Bai Shuruo; she was sitting on the grass writing something again, looking extremely focused, seemingly unaffected by Wang Xuekai.
She had no choice but to get on her bike and follow behind to catch up with Wang Xuekai.
The two classes today were also taught quite perfunctorily.
Professional courses were all finished by the junior year; senior year classes were just choosing one or two electives to scrape together some credits.
After finishing class, because of some issues with her thesis, Bai Shuruo needed to go to the office to consult the department head.
The department head was a little old man in his 50s; because Bai Shuruo often helped him with the blackboard newspapers, he had a very good impression of her.
After giving guidance on her graduation thesis, he asked Bai Shuruo again, "Shuruo, what are your plans for the future? Do you want to take the postgraduate entrance exam? I think you have quite a good chance."
Bai Shuruo hurriedly said, "No, if there's an opportunity, I still want to go out for an internship early and start working sooner."
It wasn't that postgraduate studies were bad, but if she took the exam, it would take several years of energy, and the money for graduate school would still have to be provided by her sister; she really didn't want her sister to be that tired.
The department head then said, "Then do you want to go to CG for an internship? The human resources manager at CG contacted me yesterday, saying they wanted to recruit a few more students from our school, and there is one spot for industrial design; I plan to give this spot to you."
"Really?" Bai Shuruo was overjoyed.
CG was a mobile phone R&D company and a large enterprise; being able to intern at this company, she would definitely be able to learn a lot.
The department head laughed and said, "Of course it's real. If you're willing, I'll report your name tomorrow. By the way, give me your ID card."
She carried her ID card with her, so Bai Shuruo immediately took it out of her crossbody bag and handed it to the department head.
The department head went to make a copy and said, "After you go back this afternoon, you still need to make a resume. You know how to make a resume, right?"
"I do, Director." Bai Shuruo smiled so hard her little dimples appeared, her eyebrows curving into two crescent moons, looking both pretty and cute.
The department head chuckled and said to Bai Shuruo, "I knew you were a smart, good student; these things won't stump you. After the resume is done, just send it to my email, and then wait for the HR over there to notify you, and you can go to work."
Bai Shuruo was endlessly grateful to the department head.
It was truly worth all the effort she had put in, helping the department head make posters every single month.
