Chapter 8: Drunk
This meal was quite sumptuous, with fish, shrimp, and oyster sauce lettuce.
While eating, Bai Shuruo kept thinking about his words, "I married a wife to enjoy life, not to suffer," and felt a warmth in her heart.
Her sister was right; this man was reliable, regardless of his purpose in marrying her, and regardless of whether he was gay.
After finishing the meal, she realized she hadn't even thought about adding chili sauce, nor did she remember that bag of spicy gluten strips that had been confiscated.
The light and tasty meal was just right.
He even picked a large piece of steamed fish belly for her, and she ate it with great relish, her cheeks bulging on both sides.
Realizing she should reciprocate, she wanted to pick a piece of fish for him... but the fish wasn't big, and there was no more belly or meat left, so she picked a fish head for him.
She loved eating fish heads and fish eyes the most, and she had given him her favorite fish head.
Han Yangting: "..."
He felt as if the fish eyes were rolling at him.
Forget it, he would just have to bite the bullet and eat it.
After the meal, Bai Shuruo wrote her resume in the room, while Han Yangting went out.
Bai Shuruo did not ask where Han Yangting was going; naturally, she did not dare to ask.
Since he went out, he must have had his own business to attend to.
Perhaps he was preparing to start a company; even if she asked, she might not understand.
In Fengcheng, the Carnival nightclub was filled with debauchery and flashing neon lights.
Han Yangting's private room was lively, though not with noise, but with his two friends stirring up trouble.
"The little sister-in-law actually said she wants to support you? Hahaha, does she know what kind of person you are?" Ling Feng laughed until he couldn't stop, clutching his stomach.
Han Yangting swirled the wine glass in his hand, his handsome face serious, showing no expression.
Another friend, Ni Xianglei, also laughed until tears streamed down his face: "This is the funniest joke I've heard in my life."
Ling Feng added: "But this act of yours, Yangting, was performed well. At least it witnessed the little sister-in-law's true feelings, knowing she isn't after your money."
Ni Xianglei delivered the finishing blow: "But she isn't after him as a person either; the innocent young girl doesn't understand anything and was basically tricked into marriage."
Ling Feng: "That's true. If the little sister-in-law were after him as a person, she surely would have pounced on him long ago. Why else would they sleep in separate rooms? Tell me, what exactly is the little sister-in-law after?"
Ni Xianglei: "After his old age, after the fact that he doesn't wash."
The two laughed together again, completely ignoring Han Yangting's now-cold face.
But Han Yangting had always been cultured and generally did not lose his temper. He took a sip of wine and said with a cold face: "My wife is still young, don't be so vulgar."
Ling Feng stopped smiling and pretended to sigh: "The little sister-in-law is young, but you are old enough—if she doesn't understand, don't you? If a woman truly loves you, it's impossible to hide. Let me ask you, has she ever dressed up specifically for you?"
Han Yangting: "No."
She wore a bun every day and didn't even wear makeup, though of course, she looked better without it.
Ni Xianglei continued to ask: "Then has she ever asked you for help from time to time? Saying coquettishly, 'Brother Han, I don't know how to do this'?"
"Neither."
On the contrary, she often came over to help him, though she only made more work for him.
"Doesn't your place have a gym? When you were working out, did she ever say to you, 'Brother Han, can I squeeze your pecs'?"
Han Yangting took another sip of wine: "No."
"Then when she isn't home, does she take the initiative to contact you?"
"No."
He had added her on WeChat the day he went to propose, and the two hadn't chatted even once since.
"Then she..."
No, no; no matter what question was asked, it was all "no."
Ling Feng and Ni Xianglei looked at Han Yangting with sympathy.
They hadn't expected that Han Yangting, a famous tycoon in the Beishi wealthy circles, would actually stumble in love. The other party wasn't a supermodel, a big star, or a socialite, but an unknown little girl.
Ling Feng sighed: "The road ahead is long and arduous; I will search high and low."
Ni Xianglei stopped being snide and offered sincere comfort: "You've only been married for two days. The little sister-in-law hasn't realized it yet, but she's a good person. Have more patience; she will fall in love with you sooner or later."
Han Yangting picked up the wine on the table, filled their glasses, and said: "Let's finish this drink."
Ling Feng had a sudden inspiration: "Yangting, why don't you just get drunk? Go back and take the opportunity to act like a drunkard, take the opportunity to... hehe."
Ni Xianglei slapped his thigh in agreement: "That's a good idea!"
Bai Shuruo had already finished her resume and was writing the outline for her graduation project.
It was dark, but Han Yangting had not yet returned.
She didn't know if he would be eating dinner at home.
She could actually cook, but the taste was truly mediocre; except for her younger brother Bai Shuhua, no one would eat the food she made.
She suddenly remembered there were spicy gluten strips in the closet and decided to skip dinner and just make do with two strips.
As it turned out, just as she tore open the package and before she could even eat, she heard the doorbell ring outside.
She hurried to the living room to check the surveillance video at the door.
Han Yangting appeared to be drunk, being supported home by two men! Those two men were quite handsome, looking extraordinary and dashing.
Her heart skipped a beat. So, was Han Yangting truly into men?
She went to open the door.
First, she smelled a wave of alcohol, and then the two men began to tell her the situation: "You're the little sister-in-law, right? Your Han Yangting is drunk."
Bai Shuruo asked hurriedly: "How did he get drunk?"
Ling Feng did not expect Bai Shuruo to ask like this, nor did he know the intention behind such a question, so he said: "Let me introduce us first, my name is Ling Feng, the one beside me is called Ni Xianglei, we came over from Beishi to see Yangting, because we haven't gathered for too long, so we accidentally drank too much, Yangting's alcohol tolerance is not good."
Bai Shuruo was slightly disappointed.
Her sister said that men who drink often are no good, especially those who get drunk and need their wives to take care of them.
She had thought he got drunk because he went out to socialize for his company business, she did not expect he got drunk while with friends.
But because friends were present, she did not show her disappointment, only saying: "Then, could you two please help carry him into the room?"
Ling Feng and Ni Xianglei looked at each other.
The little sister-in-law does not seem nervous, and her enthusiasm is not high either.
After the two of them carried him back to the room, Bai Shuruo said again: "It really was a bother for you two, leave it to me here, if you have things to do, you can head back first."
Ling Feng and Ni Xianglei looked at each other again, it seemed they had been too clever by half.
The little sister-in-law treated them as Han Yangting's fair-weather friends; if things went poorly, she might even think they were the ones who got Han Yangting drunk.
But since the hostess was already shooing them away, they had no choice but to leave.
Ling Feng found an excuse: "Xianglei and I still have to catch a flight back to Beishi, so we will leave this place to you, little sister-in-law."
Bai Shuruo did not say a single word to ask them to stay, "Safe travels to you both."
After Ling Feng and Ni Xianglei went out the door, they looked at each other again, then both sighed.
This road of pursuing his wife for Han Yangting is going to be a long one.
