Chapter 94: Who Was the Person You Once Loved?
Two hours later, Bai Shuruo felt as if her bones had been dismantled, lying limply on the sofa, without even the strength to lift her hand.
It turned out that this sort of thing was truly not as terrifying as giving birth; it was painful yet pleasurable, a desire for both life and death.
At first, she bit the bullet and accepted it, but later she couldn't help but respond to him.
After it ended, Han Yangting held her beside him, and she rested her head in the crook of his arm.
He was already so tired that he had fallen asleep; she looked at the ceiling in a daze for a while, her eyelids heavy, and drifted off to sleep without realizing it.
When she woke up again, she discovered that she had been moved to the bed at some point, her body had been wiped clean, and she was covered by a warm quilt.
Han Yangting was lying on his side, propping his head up with his hand, looking at her with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.
At the mere thought of what happened last night, she couldn't help but pull the quilt over her head to hide.
However, before long, he crawled in from one side and looked at her from under the quilt.
She was even more embarrassed and wanted to turn her back to hide, but he forcibly turned her over.
He pulled her into his embrace and lifted her chin, making her face him, "Ruoruo, look at me."
She had no choice but to look at him.
He had already shaved and washed his face, looking fresh and clean; on his handsome face, his eyes were both unfathomable and very satisfied.
"From today on, you are entirely mine," he said.
She grew shy again and wanted to hide, but her chin was clamped by him, "Ruoruo, you are not allowed to hide."
She had no choice but to look at him again, not daring to move a muscle.
He toyed with a strand of her hair and said, "Ruoruo, you are truly beautiful."
"Brother Han..."
"It's time to change how you address me; call me husband, or Brother Yangting."
"..." Bai Shuruo really couldn't bring herself to say it.
"Still shy?" He kissed her again.
"Han... Brother Yangting, I should go to work." She made an excuse.
If things went on like this, she was afraid she would be so nervous her heart would jump out.
"Eat breakfast before you go; I'll go cook for you."
"O-okay."
After Han Yangting went out, Bai Shuruo finally let out a sigh of relief.
She got up to wash, but felt her legs go weak, and there was still a bit of pain in a certain place.
When Bai Shuruo came out, Han Yangting had already prepared breakfast and was waiting for her by the dining table.
He watched her walking posture, which was not quite normal.
"Does it hurt a lot?" After she came to his side, he asked.
Bai Shuruo sat down with difficulty and then said, "A little."
She didn't know who to blame for this.
They had only officially consummated the marriage so long after getting their certificate; he must have been stifled. Her sister had said that no man could endure it for so long unless he wasn't normal.
He pulled her over and placed her on his lap.
"Han... Brother Han." She wasn't used to this, nor was she used to calling him Brother Yangting.
"It's more comfortable sitting on my lap," he said in a low voice. His voice was very gentle and raspy, making her break out in goosebumps.
The chairs at home weren't hard, but it was indeed more comfortable sitting on his lap.
"After you finish breakfast, I'll take a look for you," he said.
She immediately refused, "No need, Brother Han, I'm fine."
"Really fine?"
"Y-yes, fine." It would only be a problem if she let him look.
Han Yangting brought her portion of breakfast in front of her and said, "Then eat your breakfast first."
"I... I'll get down and eat it myself."
"No, I'll feed you," Han Yangting said, hugging her tighter.
He had pan-fried steak today, but he had already cut it into pieces, so he held her waist with one hand and fed her with a fork in the other, "Open your mouth."
Bai Shuruo opened her mouth and ate; the steak was delicious, but she wasn't used to this way of eating. It was too awkward, making it seem as if she were mentally disabled.
But he kept holding her, and she had no way to eat by herself.
After eating the steak and bread, he handed her milk to drink.
"Brother Han, I'll handle the milk myself," she said.
Taking the cup, she drank the milk with "gulp, gulp" sounds, finishing it in a few mouthfuls.
She thought she could get down and walk, but he still didn't let her go, "Ruoruo, wait, you have milk on the corner of your mouth."
Just as she was about to grab a tissue to wipe it herself, he kissed her and licked the milk from the corner of her mouth clean.
Bai Shuruo's face turned red to the roots of her hair again.
"Let me help you check where it hurts."
"No!" She strongly refused.
"I already saw it last night, and I'll have to see it often in the future, don't be shy." He carried her over to the sofa.
More than ten minutes later, Bai Shuruo was finally able to leave for work.
Han Yangting wanted to drive her, but she wouldn't let him. Her sister's company was just starting out, and she was the one with the least seniority; she didn't want to make such a high-profile entrance.
Han Yangting called a car for her and then urged her, "You must walk slowly today, and remember to apply the medicine I gave you."
After hearing this, Bai Shuruo quickly left the room and ran into the elevator.
Only when she reached the elevator did she let out a deep sigh of relief.
……
There was a meeting this morning to discuss the initial draft designed by Bai Shuruo, and Bai Shunan asked Bai Shuruo to go up and present her design concept.
Bai Shuruo was no longer timid when speaking at meetings; she explained things naturally, handled others' questions deftly, reacted very quickly, and spoke appropriately.
After the meeting, everyone else left, but Bai Shunan did not.
Bai Shunan deliberately pulled at Bai Shuruo's collar, and upon seeing the red spots inside, she understood immediately.
"Sister, why are you pulling at my collar?" Bai Shuruo asked.
Bai Shunan laughed: "The moment I saw the way you walked today, I knew what happened between you and Brother Han last night."
"Is, is it that obvious?" Bai Shuruo couldn't help but bring her legs together.
"Don't you look in the mirror when you go out? Look at your neck, it's covered in hickeys."
"Ah?" Bai Shuruo was glad she had worn a high-collared outfit today.
She had only ever seen hickeys in books and manga, and hadn't noticed she had them too.
Bai Shunan laughed again: "This is a good thing, you two should have done this long ago, but did you take precautions?"
"I don't know." Bai Shuruo hadn't paid any attention to that at all.
She had been so nervous last night that her heart felt like it was going to jump out, and she had been very passive; how would she know if he had done it or not?
Bai Shunan said: "Then you have to ask him. If you don't want to have a baby so soon, you must take medicine in time. If you do want to have a baby, then have one sooner; Brother Han isn't young anymore, it's time for him to have children."
"Then... I'll go ask." Bai Shuruo said.
Bai Shunan looked at Bai Shuruo, feeling that her younger sister was both dazed and cute, so she couldn't help but pinch her face, "Actually, I'm the one who wants you to have a baby quickly; I, as the aunt, will definitely treat my little nephew well."
"Sister, what are you saying? I haven't even officially graduated from university yet."
……
Returning to the office, Bai Shuruo began working seriously again, not thinking at all about asking Han Yangting anything.
It wasn't until she returned home in the evening and saw the clothes that had been washed by the hourly worker today that she remembered what happened last night.
She became conflicted again, not knowing whether to ask in person or ask via WeChat.
Han Yangting was in the gym.
Bai Shuruo couldn't understand where he got such good energy; she was so tired now that her whole body felt like it was falling apart.
Just as she was about to walk in, Han Yangting switched to a piece of fitness equipment; that equipment was likely for shoulder training, with his arms moving up and down.
For some reason, at that moment, an image suddenly appeared in Bai Shuruo's mind: a boy shooting a basketball on the playground, his vigorous posture, his precise movements, the sweat dripping from the tips of his hair...
It was a heart-stirring image.
Bai Shuruo's heart began to thump.
She froze.
Although this racing heart was something she felt when she was with Han Yangting, that was out of nervousness, whereas at that moment just now, it was genuine heart-stirring, the kind of heart-stirring that only comes from liking someone.
In the youth she had forgotten, she had deeply liked someone!
Bai Shuruo fled back to her room in a panic, then lay on the bed, clutching the bedsheets tightly.
She remembered the heart-stirring of those years, but she couldn't remember that person's face.
Who, exactly, was that person?
……
Han Yangting, who was working out, knew that Bai Shuruo had come in; the reason he didn't greet her was because he thought she would come in on her own.
He didn't expect that she would only walk two steps, space out for a while, and then run away.
Was she shy?
After he finished his workout, he went to knock on Bai Shuruo's bedroom door, and the little woman replied from inside: "Brother Han, I'm asleep."
He paused.
With the experience of last night, he could actually have pushed the door open and gone in, but he was afraid his enthusiasm and initiative would scare her, so he silently backed away.
Bai Shuruo lay on the bed, blankly looking at a diary in front of her.
This diary was something she had found in a "treasure chest," and since that box contained photos of her father, she had brought it along as well.
It was a diary from middle school; it didn't record much, mostly just some emotional musings and daily prayers for her father's condition to improve.
Only in one entry did she write about her feelings for "him":
I like his voice, the faint smile at the corners of his mouth, I like his unintentional smiles.
Every day, I look forward to being on duty at the library, because that way, I can see him.
Although Bai Shuruo couldn't remember who he was, she suddenly remembered that feeling—the kind of feeling that made her heart flutter the moment she thought of him.
She put the diary down and tucked it under her pillow.
She already had a husband; she shouldn't be thinking about these things. Even if she had liked someone, so what? That was nothing more than the impulsiveness of youth.
……
The next day.
Bai Shuruo got up early; she took the initiative to cook noodles, and this time she cooked eight poached eggs for him.
When Han Yangting got up, he saw that Bai Shuruo had already cooked the noodles.
He glanced at the noodles on the table, then glanced at Bai Shuruo.
The little woman's eyes were flickering, as if she had done something wrong.
And Bai Shuruo also secretly took a look at Han Yangting.
Even though she had already had physical intimacy with him and was a husband and wife in name and in truth, she still didn't have that heart-stirring feeling; it was not as good as the figure that had flashed through her mind yesterday.
Therefore, she was filled with guilt.
Therefore, she cooked breakfast, using her actions to make up for her guilt.
"Ruoruo," he walked in front of her, first gave her a hug, then asked, "Why are you up so early?"
"I woke up, so, so I got up."
"Does that place still hurt?" He lowered his head again to kiss her.
She actually dodged subconsciously, "No, it doesn't hurt anymore. Right, Brother Han Yangting, there is one thing I want to ask you."
