Chapter 18: Let's Exchange Contact Information
The weekend passed quickly, and Monday arrived once again.
Sike Academy.
Ever since Jiang Shun threw Qi Yu's test papers around the classroom last time, even fewer people dared to sit with Qi Yu, fearing they would be targeted for trouble.
Ling Wu was also frequently asked by pale-faced classmates to switch seats; as time went on, he simply stopped switching and became Qi Yu's permanent desk mate.
Zhang Lijuan walked into the classroom, dressed in a professional silk-linen shirt and a high-waisted pencil skirt, her demeanor elegant, intellectual, and poised.
She wore a polite smile: "Students, a student from Class F is transferring to our class due to excellent grades. Let's give them a warm welcome."
Class F?
The young masters and misses below didn't even lift their heads; those sleeping continued to sleep, those chatting continued to chat, completely indifferent to the so-called new student.
Zhang Lijuan was long used to this and didn't expect anyone to pay her any mind; she simply beckoned to the doorway: "Student Ming Tan, come in."
A moment later, the youth walked in with a black cloth bag slung across his body, his collar open to reveal fair collarbones, his sleeves rolled up to the elbows, his raven-black, silk-like hair catching the light as he moved, turning a beautiful chestnut color, his profile like a perfect sculpted work of art.
Someone in the classroom whispered: "Look, the new student is very handsome."
"Looking at that outfit... another Special Student, right?"
"The school badge is black, no doubt about it, a Special Student. Is our Class A some kind of shelter for poor Special Students? They just dump anything into our class."
"A Special Student, what a waste of that face."
Someone sneered: "That's perfect then, pair him up with Qi Yu. Two poor wretches from the Slums, neither has to look down on the other, both equally dirty and messy, hahaha..."
Zhang Lijuan: "Everyone, quiet down. Let the new student introduce himself."
She pursed her lips, gave Ming Tan a kind smile, patted his shoulder, and comforted him: "Go ahead."
Ming Tan nodded, resting one hand on the podium; his beautiful face was bright and sunny, but the words he spoke had a bit of an edge: "Ming Tan."
Two words, concise and to the point.
Ming Tan walked down from the podium, and after passing Ling Wu and Qi Yu's seats in the aisle, his gaze fixed clearly on the latter.
Afterward, Ming Tan walked to the lone desk at the back and sat down. There were no empty seats in the Sike Academy classroom; there had always been exactly as many desks as there were students, and this one had been moved in by Zhang Lijuan just this morning.
After all, in Class A, besides Ling Wu, no one was willing to treat a Special Student with any courtesy.
"Clap, clap, clap!"
Ling Wu applauded lightly.
In the silent classroom of Class A, this applause sounded abrupt.
【A loud boom in the sky, my protagonist shou makes a dazzling entrance. What kind of rigid, class-stratified Noble Academy is this? Just wait for my treasure to set you all straight.】
【Ahhh! Baby Ming Tan, you're so handsome!】
【He just looked at the villain.】
【The supporting male character is actually quite nice, at least he applauded and didn't let Tan-bao feel awkward.】
Protagonist shou?
Ling Wu tilted his head to look at Ming Tan's back. The protagonist who had always lived in the bullet comments had finally appeared, and he was actually a Special Student too.
Looking at the way he gazed at Qi Yu, did the two of them know each other?
The villain and the protagonist.
A very interesting combination.
The bell rang, and the physics teacher walked in with a textbook, opened the PPT, and began lecturing on Faraday's Law of Induction. Ling Wu hadn't slept well for the past two days, his under-eyes were bruised, and he soon slumped over his desk and fell asleep.
Qi Yu was taking notes: Faraday's Law of Induction only applies to conductive loops; for non-conductive loops, no induced electromotive force exists.
"Ling Wu, do you know..."
He turned his head only to see his desk mate sleeping, his fair, translucent face buried between his neck and arms, his raven-black, long eyelashes casting small shadows under his eyelids, his lips and complexion exceptionally rosy.
Qi Yu's hand holding the pen paused, and his Adam's apple rolled unnaturally.
Sunlight pierced through the clouds and treetops, shining in through the window glass and landing on Ling Wu's face. The glare was piercing, and the youth frowned unconsciously.
"Mm..."
Physics teacher: "Is light a particle or a wave? People generally believe that light is merely a wave phenomenon, consistent with classical wave theory..."
"For example, when electrons pass through the double-slit experiment, they exhibit interference and diffraction phenomena, which are typical wave characteristics."
Qi Yu could barely hear what the teacher was saying; he reached out his forearm as if possessed, shielding the youth's eyes with his palm.
Once the glare was blocked, Ling Wu's eyelashes stopped fluttering, and that beautiful lip shape was exposed to the sunlight, appearing somewhat moist.
Qi Yu then heard:
"Light possesses wave-particle duality; it is both a particle and a wave."
Qi Yu moved his chair a bit closer to him, the two of them now extremely close. He pressed his chest against the edge of the desk, lowered his head slightly, used his body to block the sunlight for Ling Wu, and picked up his pen to continue listening to the lecture.
Light possesses wave-particle duality; it is both a particle and a wave.
By the time he finished writing, the character 'Wu' had clearly fallen from his pen tip, only for him to quickly scribble it out.
The scene in the front row fell exactly into Shen Zhaojue's eyes. A sneer appeared in his gaze; what a fool, thinking that by blocking the light for Ling Wu, he could make the other person like him?
He shouldn't even look at whether he was worthy.
A piece of sludge from the Slums daring to covet the cold, clear crescent moon in the clouds.
He really didn't understand what had gone wrong with Ling Wu, to actually lower his status as the Eldest Young Master of the Jin Family to sit with a lowly commoner.
It would be one thing if Ling Wu liked Jing Duye.
But what right did Qi Yu have to receive such preferential treatment?
【Ding!】
【Please complete Newbie Task 3: Cause Qi Yu to be bullied (0/1)】
Ling Wu was woken up by the system notification sound in his mind; he propped up his numb body and rubbed his sleepy eyes.
The broken system was issuing tasks again.
A clean, clear voice came from beside his ear: "You're awake?"
Ling Wu noticed his deliberate posture and smiled, saying: "Awake, thank you for blocking the light for me."
Qi Yu: "Do you need to take notes?"
He pushed his book, filled with notes, over.
"I'll write," Ling Wu said: "After all, there is no end to learning."
The pen tip slid across the paper, making a rustling sound, and Qi Yu stared at his profile and said: "The Academy's new semester test is coming up soon."
Ling Wu paused his pen: "Test?"
"Mm," Qi Yu nodded: "The notice just came out, it's in the middle of the month."
Ling Wu only then remembered that Sike Academy had a ranking exam every semester.
Those who ranked high could use this to obtain an admission ticket to the Student Council and receive various preferential treatments, while those who ranked low would be punished by the Student Council; for a Special Student like Qi Yu, if his grades fluctuated too much, it would undoubtedly be a devastating blow, and he would face expulsion.
And for any student expelled from Sike Academy, no university in the Empire would dare to admit you.
"Ding!"
"Ding!"
The bell for the end of class rang.
Seeing that he hadn't taken many notes yet, Qi Yu took the initiative to suggest: "Let's add each other's contact information; I'll go back and take pictures of the content on these pages and send them to you, it'll be more convenient."
"Thank you."
Ling Wu handed over his phone, quickly received the friend request, and accepted it.
