Chapter 2: The Backwoods Produce Stubborn People

~8 min read 1,558 words

Qi Yu watched as the tall, slender youth turned his head back, and Ling Wu said from his superior position, "Shen Zhaojue, you should be asking the Jin Beidu for an explanation."

Shen Zhaojue paused for a few seconds, his expression looking extremely ugly: "Are you using the Jin Family to pressure me?"

"Ling Wu, you were only brought back to the Jin Family a year ago, and you haven't even changed your surname yet. Who knows if you're just some dirty, base illegitimate child? Do you really take yourself for the Eldest Young Master of the Jin Family?"

Illegitimate child?

The crowd was in an uproar.

Qi Yu looked at Ling Wu, astonishment flashing in the depths of his eyes; the Empire was unified on the surface, but in reality, the imperial power was hollowed out, noble families carved out territories to rule, the hierarchy was strict, the gap between rich and poor was vast, and the laws were mere window dressing.

The Jin Beidu was, furthermore, a top financial conglomerate family of the Empire.

Illegitimate children had always been existences that could not see the light of day.

Ling Wu lifted his eyes, looked at Shen Zhaojue, and said coldly, "Then give it a try."

Qi Yu followed behind Ling Wu out of the private room, unobstructed, with no one daring to stop them; as the door to the room closed, it cut off the sounds of smashing and crashing in a fit of rage.

After leaving the private room, Ling Wu sent Qi Yu to the school infirmary, wandered around Sike Academy alone for a few laps, and then took a detour back to the classroom.

The empty classroom was desolate; Ling Wu picked up the navy school uniform jacket from inside his desk, but no matter what, he could not find his phone, so he stood up, preparing to go to the surveillance room to check the footage.

Just as he stepped out of the classroom door, a low, deep male voice suddenly came from behind him.

"Are you looking for this?"

Ling Wu turned around and saw Qi Yu with his elbows propped against the window, a bandage wrapped around his collarbone; the crimson light of the sunset fell squarely on his face, his amber eyes stained with a smile, and his other hand held up the black phone.

Ling Wu recognized that it was his phone: "Give it back to me."

A normal person who encountered someone who bullied them would surely want to hide as far away as possible, right?

Before Ling Wu could figure out the crux of the matter, Qi Yu had already taken the initiative to walk up to him; the gap between the two was cramped, and he could even smell a faint scent of iodine.

The bullet comments started scrolling rapidly again:

【Who gets it? Deliberately taking his wife's phone just to create an opportunity to be alone together.】

【Qi Yu was staring at his wife the whole time in the private room just now; he must have been so hooked he couldn't take it anymore.】

【The wife's beauty, the husband's glory!】

【Secretly thrilled brother/.】

【That part in the private room made me stand up; the villain was about to be trained like a dog. Qi Yu was originally going to finish everyone off, but then he got his face touched by his wife and was instantly soothed.】

Ling Wu:?

He understood this "villain"—it was referring to Qi Yu.

Wife... could it be that they were calling him that?

Ling Wu only wanted to take his phone and leave quickly, but due to the height difference, he had to stand slightly on tiptoe to reach the phone that Qi Yu was holding high above his head.

"Give it back to me."

Qi Yu looked down from his superior position at Ling Wu, who had lifted his face, his complexion flushed from anxiety; his Adam's apple rolled, spilling out a low chuckle, and he backhanded the phone into his pocket.

He kept walking closer to Ling Wu.

Ling Wu was forced by the youth between the wall and his chest, with nowhere to retreat, and could only use his hands to prop against Qi Yu's chest to keep him from pressing in.

It was a posture where he was almost entirely held in his arms.

Ling Wu rarely got this close to anyone; he was completely uncomfortable and tried his best to negotiate: "Qi Yu, give me back the phone, and we'll call it even for the past. I won't cause you trouble again."

"Okay?"

He really couldn't understand what that Transmigrator who had occupied his body was thinking; how could he not keep such an important and private item as a phone on his person?

Qi Yu saw the young master's appearance of a rabbit driven to the edge, and an inexplicable pleasure rose in the depths of his heart.

He raised his hand and pulled down the bandage on his collarbone, revealing a scarlet scar, invisibly reminding Ling Wu of what he had done to him.

Qi Yu's eyelids lifted slightly: "Young Master, do you recognize it? The brand you personally carved onto me."

He deliberately dragged out the end of his sentence, speaking with lingering affection as if it were a whisper between lovers, yet it carried an unprovoked, wicked interest as he slowly finished his words.

"Call it even—that's easy to say."

Ling Wu's expression did not change.

Qi Yu leaned down, looking sideways at the fair, tender earlobe before him, his warm breath scattering against Ling Wu's neck, and said in a low voice: "You had better stand still and not move, otherwise I'm not sure what I might do to you."

Ling Wu's gaze crossed with the camera on the ceiling.

"Tsk."

As they remained in a stalemate, several male voices came from around the corner.

Ling Wu looked toward the sound.

A boy with dark, tousled hair leaned against the railing, the hem of his white shirt hanging loose outside his waist, his shoulders and back forming a beautiful, refined arc; the buttons at his neck were uninhibitedly undone by two, his Adam's apple presenting a sexy, beautiful protrusion, with a high nose and thin lips, his brows and eyes extremely handsome, revealing a bit of wild, roguish air.

When Jin Shaoyu saw him looking over, irritability surfaced in his brows and eyes, and he looked away in disgust.

Qi Yu turned his head and naturally saw him too; he listlessly let go of Ling Wu, crossed his arms, and leaned against the wall, watching them with interest.

【Drop! Shuraba check-in!】

【Jin Shaoyu probably wants to strangle his brother...】

【What a truly beautiful landscape; these people together are just too easy on the eyes.】

【So handsome I'm dying, kneeling down to lick the screen.】

Jin Shaoyu was about to leave; Ling Wu couldn't care about looking at the bullet comments and almost blurted out: "Shao Yu, don't go!"

He chased after him, meeting Jing Du's gaze behind the wall at the corner; their eyes shifted, and Ling Wu grabbed Jin Shaoyu's wrist and said: "I..."

Before Ling Wu could finish his words, Jin Shaoyu turned his head and fiercely shook him off, his brows furrowing: "Get lost, don't touch me. Isn't it disgusting?!"

Ling Wu was shaken until he stumbled two steps; after steadying himself, he tentatively said again: "Don't be angry, I just wanted to talk to you."

"Talk?" Jin Shaoyu's gaze narrowed, cold and ruthless like a viper's eyes, sweeping past Qi Yu before settling firmly on him, and he spoke mockingly: "Talk about what?"

"Talk about how you don't go home and are here seducing men? Can't you live without a man? Is it that satisfying to be flirting around with others all day?"

"You don't even mind the filth."

Ling Wu's face turned deathly pale, pinned to the spot by the sharp sword of those words.

Jing Du spoke indifferently: "It's time to go."

The two walked past Ling Wu side by side; Jing Du's expression was cold and detached, as if it were none of his business, while Jin Shaoyu's brows were furrowed in cold anger, as if he feared being tainted by something dirty.

Jin Shaoyu swept a glance at Qi Yu, with his usual air of superiority and disdain: "Backwater places produce unruly people."

"A bitch and a dog, a match made in heaven."

Ling Wu had almost forgotten how he returned to the student dormitory; during this year that the Transmigrator had occupied his body, he had not been conscious at every moment, and most of the time he was in a daze.

The Transmigrator wanted to woo Jing Du, and with the addition of the younger brother Jin Shaoyu who was difficult to get along with, there wasn't a single easy person in the Jin Family, and the head of the family, Jin Liangjin, was a smiling fox.

The Transmigrator felt it was too difficult to deal with, so he simply applied for on-campus housing and stopped returning to the Jin Family altogether.

It was also because of pursuing Jing Du that he had met Jin Shaoyu a few times at Sike Academy; he never received a pleasant look, so naturally, they had never spoken more than a few words.
