Chapter 37: Course Selection

~7 min read 1,397 words

Jing Duye was very eager to know who exactly the other party was. He moved the mouse over to that letter and clicked the left mouse button to open it.

"Whoosh!"

The area around the computer screen turned black, and a spotlight shone down in the center. Immediately after, a card appeared, spinning rapidly 360 degrees. A few seconds later, the card stopped spinning and flipped over from left to right.

Jing Du's pupils flickered.

The card that appeared on the screen was striking: the edges of the card were entwined with vines and lilies, which symbolized purity, holiness, and spirituality. In the center was a Magician dressed in magnificent robes, holding a magic wand high in his hand. Above the Magician's head was an infinity symbol representing infinite power and ability, and on the table sat a golden chalice.

Tarot Card Magician, image source from the internet.

Jing Du murmured, "... To think it would be him."

"Who is this?" that playboy muttered, "This guy is wearing a big red robe, has an 8 on his head, and is holding some kind of thing in his hand... looks like a total weirdo."

"Don't know."

"Looks a bit familiar, like I've seen it somewhere before."

"This is a Tarot card, right."

Shen Zhaojue knew nothing about Tarot cards; he didn't believe in so-called metaphysics at all. He pushed his cheek with the tip of his tongue: "Who is this?"

Jin Shaoyu felt a chill in his heart: "Magician."

"What Magician?"

Jing Du took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose: "The Magician in Tarot cards, who symbolizes power and wisdom."

Shen Zhaojue: "Is he a big deal?"

"It's not that simple."

Jing Du crossed his index fingers and leaned back against the chair: "This is a very famous and top-tier Tarot Organization on the international Dark Web. Its members include hackers, arms dealers, intelligence agents, and assassins... any one of them pulled out could be a figure capable of stirring up the world."

"This Organization's hierarchy is divided by Tarot cards. You can't find a shred of information about its members; we only know it originated in the Federation. The boss's codename is Magician, and the second-in-command's codename is Fool."

Jin Shaoyu paused his drinking, feeling it was strange: "You can't dig up any information at all?"

Jing Du shook his head: "Can't dig it up."

"It is said that this Magician has the backing of the Federation's top brass, and their identity file is one of only three SSS-level classified documents in the world."

"Once leaked, a self-destruct mode is triggered immediately."

Jin Shaoyu: "The jobs this Organization takes on the Dark Web start at a hundred million. Previously, Duke Shengluosi of S Country was meeting at Yati Mansion. The security was airtight and impenetrable, and dozens of snipers were lying in ambush, just waiting for people from this Organization to take the bait. Yet, even under those circumstances, Duke Shengluosi was still killed."

"At the time, the international internet even joked that if you show your head, you're finished."

Whispers broke out all around:

"Such a big background."

"Strange."

"Shen, you really have a way with things, to be able to provoke someone like this."

Shen Zhaojue waved his hand: "Go, go, go!"

He was sweating a little.

What was this even for?

He had only just taken over the family business and hadn't even figured out the accounts yet; it couldn't be that they were going to bankrupt his family, right?

That rampant?

Jing Du glanced at him and administered a dose of tranquilizer: "But don't worry, their headquarters is in the Federation, thousands of miles away. A strong dragon doesn't bully the local snake; their reach can't extend here."

Shen Zhaojue set his mind at ease, but he still couldn't help but be suspicious: "Then why is this Magician messing with me?"

"For those few episodes of shows I just finished downloading?"

Jing Du: "You're asking me?"

Shen Zhaojue: "I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare."

"But one thing is certain." Jing Du toyed with his glass: "The other party is currently within the Empire."

Shen Zhaojue started fiddling with his phone again. The other party seemed to have achieved their goal and stopped the attack. He clicked into his apps and accounts and found that nothing had changed.

"Stop looking." Jin Shaoyu couldn't be bothered to talk to him: "It would be a miracle if you could see any clues in how the Magician operates."

"Find time to change your phone."

The new semester's placement test was imminent.

The probability of seeing the F4 within Sike Academy was much higher. The forum was plastered with photos of them, and the atmosphere for studying had also become much more intense.

There would be a ranking after the placement test. Those with high scores would be allowed to join the Student Council and would also receive many perks; even the accommodation environment and certain high-end venues required a high ranking to enter.

Whenever this time came, the teachers could make a fortune.

Bribing teachers was an almost unspoken rule within Sike Academy, but cheating in the exam hall was strictly prohibited. The school did not want to bring this bad atmosphere out into the open.

Class A.

During the break, there weren't many people in their seats; everyone was walking around.

At the same time, the study committee member Bai Yinan tapped on the table: "Quiet down, everyone! Come to me in order to collect your exam hall numbers and admission ticket numbers."

Ling Wu was sleeping on the table as usual.

Ming Tan walked past him and glanced at him with disdain. He didn't understand how someone could sleep in class all day; it was simply a waste of time. It was no wonder his grades were so poor that he could only resort to using money to bribe teachers in the end.

Qi Yu tapped the table gently and handed him the admission ticket slip: "Ling Wu, sleep later."

"I got your exam hall number and admission ticket number for you. Check if there are any problems. If there are, I'll go find the study committee member to change them."

Ling Wu: "... Okay."

He had just woken up, and his expression looked soft and sluggish, making him appear especially approachable.

Ming Tan curiously took the exam hall number from his hand, laughed lightly twice, and then returned it to him: "Ling Wu, you're taking the exam in Class F?"

"Yeah." Ling Wu: "Is there a problem?"

Ming Tan: "Nothing."

"Exam room numbers are assigned based on grades. With your grades, you really should go to Class F. It's just a pity that Qi Yu and I are both testing in Class A; there's no way for me to be with you."

His tone and every gesture were full of superiority.

Ling Wu didn't care at all; he put away his exam admission ticket: "It's no problem, thank you, Qi Yu."

He turned his head to look at Ming Tan and said pointedly: "Ming Tan, your grades are so good, does the Academy give you a scholarship?"

"Of course they do," Ming Tan said proudly.

As he spoke, he seemed to remember something and nudged Qi Yu with his elbow: "Has your scholarship been paid out?"

Qi Yu: "It just arrived in the account last night."

Ming Tan: "That's good."

"By the way, what are you choosing for your course selection this semester? Are you still choosing martial arts and shooting like last semester?"

Course selection at Sike Academy can be changed at any time, which is quite user-friendly.

Qi Yu thought for a moment: "I should still choose those two."

He looked at the youth lying on the desk: "Ling Wu, what are you choosing?"

Ming Tan said half-jokingly: "Didn't you choose flower arranging and tea ceremony last semester? You wouldn't still be doing flower arranging this semester, would you? Hahaha... just thinking about that image, a grown man doing flower arranging is weirdly awkward."

The Transmigrator insisted on transforming himself into a virtuous man to woo Jing Du.

Ling Wu felt it was strange: "My family won't allow me to sign up for those two again. I originally just wanted to slack off for credits, so I'll probably sign up for mechanical engineering and shooting."

"But it's not certain yet."
