Chapter 66: The Sound of Falling Rain is Like God Confessing to the World

~7 min read 1,244 words

August 9th, rain pouring down like a waterfall.

The Jin Family.

At the first light of dawn, Jin Shaoyu, dressed in a dignified and solemn black suit, stood in the ancestral hall with his back to the curtain of rain, his gaze resting heavily on the portrait of Ling Tingwan; the atmosphere was silent, and two rows of black-clad bodyguards stood outside the hall, tall and long-legged, holding pitch-black umbrellas.

Soon, several bodyguards escorted Xiao Yu, Jin Bei, and the others into the ancestral hall, their rough voices ringing out: "Kneel!"

"Young Master, the people have been brought."

Jin Shaoyu turned at the sound, his gaze disdainful, looking down from a height at Xiao Yu, who was forced to kneel on the ground, and walked over slowly, his leather shoes making dull sounds on the floor.

Jin Bei could not keep his temper: "Jin Shaoyu, what are you doing?! Let us go immediately!"

Xiao Yu's gaze was venomous: "What are you trying to do?"

Outside the ancestral hall, the rain fell with a rustle; inside, the two sides were at daggers drawn.

"What am I doing?"

Jin Shaoyu tucked one hand into his pocket, looking down with a commanding air, his tone arrogant to the point of cruelty: "Naturally, I am bringing you, this mistress, here to pay respects to the true lady of the house."

Jin Yunchu kept his head lowered and said nothing.

Jin Bei struggled to resist, only to be easily pressed back down by the bodyguards: "It is not yet your turn to run wild in the Jin Family; if you dare to treat us this way behind Father's back, aren't you afraid..."

"Too noisy." Jin Shaoyu raised his leg and stepped on his head, grinding him down with force, retorting: "A stray dog should act a bit more like a dog, understand?"

"Specially letting you come to kowtow to my mother on the anniversary of her death is simply your supreme honor."

Jin Bei's fingers clawed at the ground: "I will kill you one day."

"Heh."

Jin Shaoyu mocked: "Kill me? Haven't you tired of playing this trick since you were children?"

That once helpless youth had long since fought his way out of the wolves' den, building a hard wall around his heart, growing wildly in the shadows; not a trace of his former cowardly and incompetent self remained, and now, holding power in his hands, he was left with nothing but unbridled arrogance and contempt for the world.

He suddenly pressed down with his foot, and Jin Bei let out a scream.

"Ah!"

Xiao Yu: "Let him go! He is also a child of the Jin Family, how dare you treat him like this?"

"Then how dare you treat me like this?! How dare you treat my mother like this!" Jin Shaoyu grabbed Xiao Yu by the back of her neck, forcing her to look up at that portrait: "It is laughable that my mother even helped you once; a bitch like you, who schemed to climb into Jin Liangjin's bed and gave birth to a bastard two months older than me!"

"Don't live anymore, all of you go to hell!"

He released his grip on Xiao Yu.

Jin Shaoyu's expression was cold and grim, his eyes sharp as knives, his frigid gaze sweeping over the three of them; he clenched his fists, veins bulging on the back of his hands, that suppressed murderous aura ready to erupt and overwhelm everything at any moment...

"Make them kowtow."

Jin Shaoyu issued the order: "Kowtow until I am satisfied."

"Yes, Young Master."

The bodyguards pressed the heads of the group, forcing them to collide with the ground, producing crisp, rhythmic sounds.

Half a minute later.

Jin Liangjin, dressed in a proper suit with Butler He holding an umbrella for him, walked in from between the two rows of bodyguards, his voice carrying an unforced authority: "What are you doing?"

Jin Shaoyu did not move his body, only tilting his head slightly, tucking his chin in, and glancing at the two of them with a sidelong look, speaking vaguely: "Yo, Dad, you're awake? Then you should come over and kowtow to my mother too."

Jin Liangjin laughed again, but the laugh did not resemble a father looking at his son; his eyes carried a fear that made people shrink back, and then, with a twitch of his brow, he backhanded him with a fierce slap across the face.

"Rebellious son! Do you think you can act without fear just because you obtained the inheritance rights? Since when did this house become your one-man show?"

"The influence and power I gave you can be taken back at any time!"

Jin Shaoyu pushed his tongue against his cheek: "My things were never given by you; they were things I fought for myself!"

"Go ahead and revoke my inheritance rights! Can you? Will the Jin Family Elder Council agree to you giving the inheritance to that low-born piece of trash kneeling over there, or to the eldest daughter you have always treated as a tool for marriage alliances!"

Jin Liangjin sneered: "I don't only have you as a son of legitimate birth."

His gaze was as it had been for years, cold and majestic.

"Ling Wu?"

Jin Shaoyu nodded: "He has indeed been more outstanding than me since he was a child, so go find him and bring him back."

Jin Shaoyu flicked his sleeves and left, kicking Jin Bei hard before he walked away.

Butler He glanced at Jin Liangjin's expression, which remained composed, and called out: "Master."

Jin Liangjin was at his most terrifying at times like this.

Jin Liangjin gave his son two unflattering evaluations: "Arrogant and conceited, lost to his own ego."

He watched Jin Shaoyu walk away, turned his head to look deeply at Butler He: "It seems he still doesn't understand the principle that 'bamboo has joints before it emerges from the soil, and remains humble even when it reaches the clouds'; send someone to teach him."

Butler He: "Yes."

The rain and mist were hazy.

Jin Shaoyu asked the bodyguard holding the umbrella: "Did you tell him the location of the cemetery?"

Bodyguard: "I have already told the Eldest Young Master."

Jin Shaoyu: "What did he say?"

Bodyguard answered truthfully: "He said he would definitely arrive at Guishan Cemetery by the afternoon."

Ling Tingwan's grave was at Guishan Cemetery.

Jin Shaoyu's tense expression softened, his Adam's apple bobbed, he gave a soft "Mm," and added: "Remind him every half hour."

"Do you understand?"

Bodyguard nodded: "Understood!"

7:00 PM.

Yu Shixue arrived on time to pick up Ling Wu; it took about 30 minutes from the villa to Zhuli Pavilion, and since the rain was quite heavy, the car drove relatively slowly for safety.

Yu Shixue asked Ling Wu: "Why did you choose a rainy day to invite me to dinner?"

Ling Wu looked out the window, his fingertips tapping rhythmically against his leg, appearing to be in a very good mood; his eyes were deep and dark as he said pointedly, "The sound of falling rain is like God confessing his love to the world."

Under the scouring of the torrential rain, no sin could remain hidden!

The youth's voice was truly cold and pleasant, carrying a lingering, tender quality as he spoke; if not for the absolute clarity in his eyes, it would truly seem as if he were whispering sweet nothings to a lover.
