Chapter 143: Zhang Ma Sees the Two Treasures
Yan Moci suffered a gunshot wound to the heart; the surgery was performed by the nation's foremost cardiothoracic specialist as chief surgeon, while Su Xiyan held Tangtang and Tiantian in her arms, waiting outside the resuscitation room.
During the wait, her expression grew grave; she had almost accepted these sudden memories.
Recalling everything that had happened with Yan Moci, as well as the events when Yan Fanqing kidnapped her, Su Xiyan's expression turned dark and inscrutable.
Dongzi stood aside, both worried about whether Yan Moci could survive this ordeal and constantly observing Su Xiyan's expression.
Again, after Su Xiyan precisely caught his gaze, Dongzi hastily looked away.
But then he heard Su Xiyan speak lightly:
"Dongzi, I want to know the truth of what happened back then."
Dongzi hesitated a bit, "What are you referring to?"
"That kidnapping—who exactly fired the shot in the end.
"And what about that secret room, that diary—how did that come about?"
Dongzi pressed his lips, as if in thought.
Su Xiyan spoke softly: "Dongzi, although I have regained my memory, I have been raising the children alone for five years and have grown accustomed to being a single mother,
"So many years have passed, the love of those days has gathered dust, and I do not necessarily have to spend my life with Yan Moci."
Su Xiyan's words were blunt enough to be called cruel; Dongzi couldn't help but widen his eyes slightly.
In order to keep Su Xiyan, he voluntarily revealed everything about the past events,
"Eldest daughter-in-law, actually the events back then were all a scheme set up by boss,
"I didn't tell you because I didn't want to drag you into the Yan family's past disputes,
"But boss never expected that, precisely because of this, you would have doubts about him, and you didn't immediately tell him that you were pregnant with the two little misses,
"As a result, he failed to assign dedicated protection for you, which later gave Yan Fanqing an opportunity to exploit,
"As for that kidnapping, at the time Yan Fanqing set up a sniper at the escape point where you were; he originally intended to take boss's life, but never expected that, by a twist of fate, the bullet would hit you."
After hearing Dongzi's words, Su Xiyan stared at him, "You're not lying to me?"
Dongzi gave a bitter smile, "Eldest daughter-in-law, boss's life or death is still uncertain inside; why would I lie to you?"
Indeed, if Yan Moci ultimately cannot be saved, clearing up the misunderstanding, Dongzi's saying all this would only add to Su Xiyan's sorrow.
Su Xiyan let out a soft sigh, obviously still digesting.
Beside them, Tangtang and Tiantian cautiously watched her expression.
"Mom, are you still angry with Dad?"
Su Xiyan shook her head, "Actually, since I regained my memory, I haven't been angry."
Tangtang and Tiantian exchanged a glance, then eagerly asked:
"Then, if Dad gets better, would you consider getting back together with him?"
Su Xiyan's expression was indifferent, while Dongzi beside her grew anxious,
"Eldest daughter-in-law, after you were shot and fell into the water, boss has been searching everywhere with all his might, but no matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't find you,
"Over these five years he has never given up looking for you; moreover, for this he has even disregarded his own danger to life,
"Although this time he did indeed deceive you, he also wanted you to regain your memory!"
Su Xiyan, of course, knew all too well what Dongzi had said.
But for a full five years she had lived without loving Yan Moci, even unaware of his existence; now, suddenly regaining her memory, she feels somewhat at a loss.
Su Xiyan furrowed her brow slightly and said, "Let me think about it a bit more."
Dongzi could only direct a pleading gaze toward Tangtang and Tiantian, "Misses, boss truly loves the eldest daughter-in-law."
Tangtang and Tiantian also looked troubled; now that the misunderstanding has been cleared, they naturally hope Mom can reunite with Dad.
But although Mom has always doted on them and indulged them, they also don't want Mom to reunite with Dad just for their sake.
They respect Mom's decision.
Tangtang and Tiantian silently gathered around Su Xiyan like little chicks, and whispered:
"Mom, no matter what decision you make, Tangtang and Tiantian all support you,
"But we still hope that, at the very least, everything can wait until Dad wakes up."
Hearing Tangtang and Tiantian actually call Yan Moci "Dad," Su Xiyan's eyes flashed with surprise.
She knew her daughters best; although Tangtang and Tiantian appear lovable and thoughtful, they have always been strong-willed, and even at a young age they have already developed their own way of judging people.
Now, they have only had a couple of encounters with Yan Moci, yet they have already come to accept him.
Aside from blood ties, it is mainly their approval of his character as a person.
At the same time, Su Xiyan realized that Tangtang and Tiantian also need a father; they are, after all, just four-year-old children.
Their sensibility made Su Xiyan feel that she was being terribly selfish.
Su Xiyan nodded and said, "All right, Mom will listen to you; no matter what decision I make, I will wait until Yan Moci wakes up."
Hearing Su Xiyan finally relent, Tangtang, Tiantian, and Dongzi exchanged a glance and all let out a sigh of relief.
The resuscitation room lights stayed on all night; by the time Zhang Ma arrived, Tangtang and Tiantian were already curled up asleep in Su Xiyan's arms.
Seeing these two children for the first time, Zhang Ma's eyes reddened; when she saw the resuscitation room where Yan Moci was, tears finally spilled from her eyes.
"Eldest young master, why is your fate always so miserable?"
Hearing Zhang Ma's words, Dongzi, who had been holding back, finally could not help but shed tears.
Su Xiyan apologetically said, "Zhang Ma, it's my fault; if not for me, Yan Moci wouldn't have been shot."
Looking at Su Xiyan, whose demeanor and tone were exactly the same as years ago, Zhang Ma was astonished; she hesitated, glanced at Dongzi beside her, and after getting his confirming nod
Zhang Ma couldn't help but walk forward and hug Su Xiyan into her embrace; after hugging her, she seemed to realize her offense and hurriedly apologized:
"Eldest daughter-in-law, I was rude."
Su Xiyan smiled and shook her head, "Zhang Ma, what are you saying? When I first arrived at the old residence, if it weren't for your care, I wouldn't know how badly I'd have been bullied."
While speaking, Tangtang and Tiantian rubbed their eyes and muttered, "Mom, what are you talking about?"
Looking at these two darlings who resembled Yan Moci by seventy percent, Zhang Ma really felt the feeling of liking them at first sight made her heart melt, listening to their soft, tender voices
Zhang Ma lowered her voice to a gentle, soft tone, while Dongzi watched his usually deep, stern, decisive mother actually love the boss's child like this, feeling greatly relieved
Su Xiyan softly said to the two darlings, "Tangtang Tiantian, this is Grandma Zhang."
Tangtang and Tiantian immediately obediently called out, "Grandma Zhang."
Hearing the young miss actually address her like this, Zhang Ma was overjoyed, yet she felt it was improper; seeing the two darlings actually call their mother grandmother, Dongzi felt extremely envious
Although she liked it so much she couldn't stop smiling, Zhang Ma still forced herself to say:
"Eldest daughter-in-law, I'm just a servant; I can't just break the rules like this!"
Su Xiyan smiled, "It's fine; I think in Yan Moci's heart, you are also respected as an elder."
Su Xiyan's words settled Zhang Ma's heart perfectly; she even felt a surge of determination—no matter what happens next, as long as this old body of hers doesn't die, she will definitely protect the eldest young master, the eldest daughter-in-law, and the two young misses
But upon hearing Su Xiyan address Yan Moci by his full name, Zhang Ma's heart suddenly felt a strange sensation
She couldn't help but look toward Su Xiyan
