Chapter 109: Small Card, Big Play

~7 min read 1,362 words

The pack of adult wolves, upon seeing Wen Ling, first gave a low warning; upon seeing Zhou Yinhe, they came over one by one like puppies, coquettishly through the fence.

Wen Ling was initially a bit afraid of them, until Zhou Yinhe grabbed the wolf king's snout and let her touch it, after which she relaxed a bit.

She tossed Zhou Yinhe to play with the pack of wolves he raised, then followed the keeper to the wolf pups' enclosure.

The wolf pups were not yet aggressive toward people, their size similar to Hehe's; Wen Ling took a liking to them and stroked each one.

The keeper smiled and said, "Miss, if you like them you can come often; after a while they'll be as affectionate toward you as the adult wolves are toward the young master."

Wen Ling nodded, then stroked each one again.

Zhou Yinhe walked over then and asked the keeper, "Are they all healthy?"

The keeper replied, "Healthy; after a few days of familiarization we'll give them vaccinations."

Zhou Yinhe nodded, squatted beside Wen Ling to stroke the wolf pups' heads, and told the keeper, "Take good care of them; contact me anytime if there's any problem, and let me know if you're short-staffed so I can arrange reinforcements promptly."

The keeper acknowledged. Actually, working here is far better than elsewhere—many times better—the boss has little business and only occasionally drops by; once the wolves are familiar, they become relatively affectionate, good for the wolves and good for us workers, with high pay, good environment, living in villas built separately near the enclosure, even provided with cooks to prepare meals, and the enclosure even has dedicated cleaning staff.

After playing for a while, she had originally wanted to stroll around the manor, but seeing the heat rising from the ground she abandoned the idea.

"Let's go back, go home." In this weather there's nothing better than staying at home.

Zhou Yinhe touched her forehead and whispered, "There's a nice place to escape the heat; want to go?"

"Is it far?"

"A bit."

"No, let's go home, go to your place." Wherever is nearer, we go there.

She never pursued that healthy complexion, cherishing her own fair skin all the more, and also cherishing Zhou Yinhe's, so she hurried home; lying on the sofa was better than anything.

Zhou Yinhe gazed at her, having not seen Wen Ling so childlike in a long time, and actually felt a touch of nostalgia.

The two returned to Chen Yue Fu at great speed; Wen Ling went to the bathroom for a shower, changed into Zhou Yinhe's short-sleeve as loungewear, curled up on the sofa, turned on the TV, and didn't get up.

They leaned together, each on their own phone, and Wen Ling casually said, "It would be nice if Hehe were here too."

Upon hearing that, Zhou Yinhe rose, changed clothes, grabbed the car keys and left; Wen Ling stared blankly at his smooth motions, opened her mouth but hadn't spoken yet, looking out through the glass wall, the car had already driven out of the underground garage and sped away.

Zhou Yinhe first went to a nearby pet store, bought a heap of necessities for Hehe as well as countless snacks and cat food, stuffed them into the trunk, got in the car, and headed for Lang Po Wan.

Hehe was at that moment enjoying the air-conditioning in its own room, limbs spread out in a daze, when Zhou Yinhe picked it up and put it in the car.

Zhou Yinhe sent a message to Aunt Zhou, saying that recently Wen Ling and Hehe would be staying at his place, letting her rest a few days, then started the car and drove toward Chen Yue Fu.

Hehe was strapped by the seatbelt in the front passenger seat, limbs splayed in a dazed expression.

Zhou Yinhe said, "Dad is taking you to our other home; your mom misses you and is waiting for you at home."

Hehe didn't understand, only catching the sentence Wen Ling often says—"Mom misses you."

After the car entered the underground garage, Zhou Yinhe first took Hehe upstairs, told Wen Ling to stay put at home, and then made trip after trip carrying Hehe's supplies up.

Although it wasn't hot, after several trips he'd worked up a sweat; Wen Ling clung, standing at the elevator mouth watching him, feeling a bit distressed, until Zhou Yinhe's one sentence brushed her off.

"It's not a big deal."

Wen Ling returned helplessly to the sofa and sat down, watching him first unpack, wash, and put Hehe's supplies in the downstairs living room, then go to the bathroom to shower and change.

Having just come downstairs and sat on the sofa, Wen Ling tossed Hehe onto the sofa and flung herself into Zhou Yinhe's embrace.

She murmured softly, "How can you be so good?"

Zhou Yinhe held her tight and calmly said, "What's this? Don't get moved over such a trifle."

Wen Ling gave a muffled hum, continued nestling in his embrace, adjusted to a comfortable pose; Hehe, seeing this, rubbed up against her and directly curled up in Wen Ling's arms, like a set of nesting dolls.

Chu Yao and Fu Huahua had created a group chat for the three of them yesterday; at this moment the two of them were tagging her in the group.

Zhou Yinhe lowered his head to look at her phone screen; Wen Ling opened the group and glanced at it.

【Ruan MiaoMiao started tagging Wen Ling again】

【Don't understand, why does she still have fans? She's been thoroughly debunked.】

Wen Ling was a bit puzzled, so she searched entertainment news; it was a little girl working on the crew who had posted a cryptic Weibo.

【Sisi Jiang: "Small card, big show."】

Some people, catching the scent of gossip, came over; a passerby asked what was going on, and she also replied.

【She's late every day, making the whole crew wait for her; from time to time she bullies her own assistant; other actors treat the whole crew to coffee, but she scoffs at it from the side, saying she wouldn't drink such lousy coffee—of course, I overheard that remark as I passed by.】

Someone dug up Sisi Jiang's previous Weibo posts, speculated she was in the same crew as Ruan MiaoMiao, and asked if she was rmm.

Sisi Jiang only gave that comment a like.

Immediately the internet erupted; Ruan MiaoMiao's studio hired a navy to bombard Sisi Jiang's Weibo, and Sisi Jiang stood firm against the navy, cursing back everyone who insulted her.

Ruan MiaoMiao's studio had no choice but to post a counter-Weibo: "【It's truly spreading rumors with one mouth and refuting them with broken legs; our MiaoMiao is famous for her good temper, how could she say that? As for being late, MiaoMiao has only been late once, and she had already asked leave from the director's team; afterward MiaoMiao treated the whole crew to afternoon tea to apologize, lies just flow from the mouth, if you want fame don't come staining our MiaoMiao's reputation—justice lies in the hearts of people; if you keep spreading rumors we won't be polite, you must delete the Weibo and apologize today, otherwise it won't be so simple.】"

Wen Ling saw that Weibo, laughed outright, and asked Zhou Yinhe to comment on this counter-Weibo; Zhou Yinhe only said five words—"Primary schoolers arguing."

"Ah, I feel this staffer wouldn't dare back down; should we give them a push?" Wen Ling felt a bit torn.

Zhou Yinhe took out his own phone and called his assistant.

"That Sisi Jiang on Weibo, get in touch with her."

The assistant agreed, then searched Weibo a bit, ate some melon (i. e., gossiped), and understood his boss's meaning.

He had someone look up Sisi Jiang's number and called her.

Sisi Jiang initially thought it was a scam call; after hearing the assistant's words she hung up and blocked him, until the assistant borrowed another employee's phone from the company and called her again.

"Don't hang up, don't hang up—I'm not a scammer; you can check FR Holdings, then you'll know."
