Chapter 138: I'm not weak, am I?

~7 min read 1,373 words

Wen Ling let out a puffed laugh, "This also counts as shared interests?"

She clung to Zhou Yinhe, yawning while saying, "I don't know when Madame Jiang and the aunt are planning the charity auction, so I can go find something to do, lest I stay home full and warm and think about that."

Zhou Yinhe curled his lips, lowered his gaze to look at her, and asked, "What are you thinking about?"

Wen Ling raised her hand and covered Zhou Yinhe's eyes, "Don't worry about it, go to sleep."

Zhou Yinhe laughed softly for a moment, exhaled a breath, and wrapped his arms around Wen Ling.

Probably because of the weather, the two of them grew sleepy together, each day catching a few hours of nap in the daytime, and still getting sleepy at the usual time at night.

Ning Qing, who came to visit the two, seeing this, still thought they were ill.

"You can't stay at home all the time; you need to go out often to see the sun, otherwise after a while your bodies will definitely become weak."

"Weak?" Zhou Yinhe lifted his eyes to look at Wen Ling, his tone obviously not serious, "I'm not weak, am I?"

Wen Ling didn't scold him in front of Ning Qing, she just opened her mouth and silently threw a character at Zhou Yinhe.

"Get lost."

Zhou Yinhe gave a muffled laugh, raised his hand and made an OK gesture.

The lovebirds were being all clingy and awkward; Ning Qing, being experienced, naturally saw it clearly, but fearing Wen Ling might be thin-skinned, she pretended not to notice.

"I came, besides wanting to see you two, I also wanted to tell you that the charity auction will be held tomorrow night."

Wen Ling had already had Aunt Zhou send the donated items to the Jiang family; hearing this, she nodded, "I still wanted to help, but I didn't expect you and Madame Jiang to have already taken care of it."

"We don't need you either; we're just having others do it."

Ning Qing chuckled lightly, suddenly thinking of something, she carefully glanced at Wen Ling and whispered, "This time, the Qin family also donated a lot, sent directly to the Zhou family, and the person coming is Qin Second Miss."

There were no girls among the younger generation of the Qin family, so this Qin Second Miss is Wen Ling's mother, Qin Siqing.

Wen Ling froze for a moment, quickly composed her expression, and smiled, "This is also the collective donation by the great families of Sijiucheng to the mountainous areas; the Qin family naturally won't be absent."

She simply pretended not to catch the main meaning of what Ning Qing said.

Zhou Yinhe silently watched her, trying to read something from her expression, but Wen Ling hid it extremely well, and she looked at him puzzled, asking, "What's wrong?"

After Ning Qing left, Zhou Yinhe pulled Wen Ling, whose shoulders were slightly slumped, into his embrace.

"If you don't want to see them, you don't have to; don't force yourself and make yourself unhappy."

For this auction, the Qin family will definitely attend; to see Wen Ling, her father and mother will surely come.

Wen Ling shook her head and said softly, "Regardless of whether they come or not, I am definitely going."

"Not going, my mom won't think anything of it." Zhou Yinhe lowered his head and kissed her shoulder, "My mom really likes you."

"It has nothing to do with the aunt." Wen Ling raised her hand to stroke Zhou Yinhe's cheek, then pulled him back to the living room.

The next afternoon, Wen Ling went ahead to look for Ning Qing; Zhou Yinhe wanted to follow her, but Wen Ling refused.

"Don't keep clinging to me."

Zhou Yinhe frowned, "Why can't I stick to you?"

"Distance creates beauty." Wen Ling said righteously, "If you cling to me every day, the freshness will gradually fade, not just for me, but you'll feel that way too."

Zhou Yinhe solemnly said, "I won't."

But he was still left behind by Wen Ling, angrily gripping his waist, watching her drive away.

Wen Ling glanced at his reflection in the rearview mirror and couldn't help laughing.

When they arrived at the agreed meeting point, Ning Qing and Madame Jiang had already been chatting for a while.

Seeing that Wen Ling had come alone, Ning Qing smiled and asked, "Where's Xiao Wu? I thought he'd cling to you again and come along."

Wen Ling first greeted the two aunts, then after sitting down said, "He wants to come, but I won't let him."

Ning Qing made an exaggerated, sympathetic expression, "You've worked hard, and you still have to take care of my foolish little son."

Madame Jiang smiled modestly, covering her mouth, probably afraid other ladies would see; she whispered, "Don't overdo it, Xiao Wu is fine; if you had a son like mine, you'd be furious."

Wen Ling was amused by Madame Jiang's exaggerated words, but Ning Qing said, "Then look at my second son and little daughter; they're just like Jibai, I'm not anxious, why are you?"

"At least you already have a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law settled; look at me, I only have one son, and nothing is settled yet."

When women gather, they talk either about children or husbands; Wen Ling on the side just listened in on the gossip.

They were now on the upper floor of the auction venue, and at that moment the people coming and going were all the prominent families attending tonight's auction.

Chu Yao and Fu Huahua had come together; upon seeing Wen Ling, they stepped forward together.

"Mrs. Zhou, Madame Jiang."

Ning Qing knew Wen Ling got along well with Chu Yao and Fu Huahua in Sijiucheng, knew they were looking for Wen Ling, and thoughtfully said to Wen Ling, "Keeping us company must be boring; go play with them."

Wen Ling nodded and followed Chu Yao and Fu Huahua as they walked a bit farther away.

After sitting down in the booth, Chu Yao and Fu Huahua finally began gossiping.

"They say Mrs. Zhou has a bad temper, but isn't that good enough?"

Wen Ling rested her chin on her hand, waved to call a waiter and ordered a coffee, not answering Chu Yao's words, she lifted her chin and asked the two what they needed.

The two also ordered what they liked, and after watching the waiter leave, they both turned their gossiping gazes toward Wen Ling.

"Her temper is actually quite good, but because of her status she can't be too kind in public."

"Also." Fu Huahua nodded, "My mom is like that outside too—especially aloof, but actually a total gossip fiend."

The three chuckled lowly, chatted a while, and then Zhou Yinhe, Jiang Jibai, and a few others arrived.

Seeing Wen Ling, Zhou Yinhe instinctively lifted his foot to go find her, but Ke Chengyu grabbed him and pulled him back.

"What are you going to do?"

Zhou Yinhe frowned, "Let go."

"Why are you so clingy? Don't you know distance creates beauty? Being together all the time will inevitably become annoying; even if you're not bothered, you have to consider whether Wen Ling will be bothered."

Ke Chengyu tried to reason with him, but Zhou Yinhe has never listened since childhood, and even has his own set of principles.

"At worst I'll often change my style; I don't believe she'll still get annoyed."

Ke Chengyu: "……"

Jiang Jibai couldn't help laughing at the side, Qi Zhan rolled their eyes, Zhao Xingtang let go of the hand they were shaking with Qi Zhan, glanced at each of the few men, and went straight to find Wen Ling.

Wen Ling hadn't seen Zhao Xingtang in a long time; upon seeing her now, she actually froze for a moment.

"Long time no see."

Wen Ling came to her senses, "Long time no see."

Zhao Xingtang didn't stand on ceremony with them, sat directly beside Wen Ling, and greeted Chu Yao and Fu Huahua.

"I have something I want to discuss with Wen Ling; could you trouble you guys…"

Chu Yao and Fu Huahua moved, got up to make space.
