Chapter 160: Well, that's good fortune

~7 min read 1,339 words

Wen Ling was not just worried; she was angry and guilty, angry at her grandfather's stubbornness, and guilty for not fulfilling her responsibility as his granddaughter to take care of him.

She felt awful, and Zhou Yinhe also felt uneasy, so he sped up to return to Feng Qi Yuan.

Zhou Shuanglin was talking in the living room with Ning Qing and Shang Zhiyu; seeing them return, none of them showed surprise, obviously they already knew.

Ning Qing got up and walked over, taking Wen Ling's hand to comfort her: "I just asked the doctor; it's not serious, don't worry."

This illness cannot be cured just by a doctor's skill; it requires dietary attention, and the Wen family's status ensures they can find a good doctor, so Ning Qing and Zhou Shuanglin didn't bother to help contact one.

Zhou Yinhe said: "We plan to bring Elder Wen to Sijiucheng so we can take better care of him."

Zhou Shuanglin fully agreed, and Ning Qing did too; seeing Wen Ling's eyelids red, she felt sorry and said: "Don't cry, your eyes are swollen; crying more won't make you pretty. Going back, if Grandfather sees you like this, he'll feel even worse."

Wen Ling's eyes really felt uncomfortable; just as she was about to raise her hand to rub them, Zhou Yinhe blocked her.

"Don't rub; the more you rub, the worse it feels. I'll give you a cold compress—please sit first."

Without waiting to tell the servant, Zhou Yinhe had already gone to the first-floor washroom and soon returned with a cold, wet towel.

Zhou Yinhe pressed Wen Ling onto the sofa, telling her to stay seated, then went upstairs to gather some things they needed to bring; Wen Ling's belongings, it's better not let others touch them.

After finishing, Zhou Yinhe saw that his father's secretary had called him.

He called back, and the secretary told him the flight route had been approved, asking when they would depart.

Zhou Yinhe said: "I'll get back to you later."

He hung up and went downstairs; seeing Wen Ling's mood much improved, she was chatting casually with Ning Qing and Shang Zhiyu, while Zhou Shuanglin occasionally interjected a couple of sentences.

"The flight route has been approved; we can leave anytime."

Wen Ling pulled off the towel, glanced at the time, then said: "Now then; it will still be over ten hours after we arrive."

Zhou Yinhe nodded, instructed the servant to put the luggage in the car, have the driver take them, and on the way pick up Elder Qin and Qin Siqing from the Qin family.

Ning Qing gave a few reminders, not delaying them, and kept watching them leave.

Zhou Shuanglin stood beside her and said lightly: "Xiao Wu used to be playful, but now he's settled down."

"Yeah, he's become much steadier and more thoughtful." Ning Qing sighed.

The car stopped outside the Qin family residence; the servant had already pushed the luggage over, Elder Qin followed behind, and Qin Siqing stood to the side wanting to help him but was rebuffed with a few remarks.

Zhou Yinhe told Wen Ling she didn't need to get out; he himself got out to help Elder Qin into the car, then reached out to let Qin Siqing support his arm as he got in.

"Thank you."

The plane landed at Sijiucheng airport; the airport deputy director personally came to meet them, and upon seeing Zhou Yinhe, he smiled and said: "I just spoke with your father on the phone; your parents praised you, saying you're now obedient, sensible, and filial."

After Elder Qin got out of the car, the deputy director didn't have time to talk to Zhou Yinhe, surprisedly stepping forward: "Elder Qin, it's been many years since we last met—what's this?"

"Isn't this accompanying your granddaughter and future son-in-law to M Country?"

Only then did the deputy director notice the girl standing beside Elder Qin—lovely and refined; he usually only encounters the wealthy young ladies and gentlemen of Sijiucheng, and the only one he'd ever praise was Zhou Yinhe, but now there's another, and she's Zhou Yinhe's girlfriend.

The deputy director looked at Zhou Yinhe, his tone inevitably envious: "You little brat, you've got great luck."

Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips and smiled; the deputy director's son is now about the same age as his elder brother and still hasn't found a girlfriend.

"Uncle, let's talk more when we get back; we're in a hurry now."

The deputy director nodded: "Go on, go on; your father still invited me to dinner at your house tonight, but since you're leaving, I'll withdraw."

——

Upon arriving in M Country, Wen Zhuo, who had gotten advance notice, came to pick them up together with the driver, in a stretched Lincoln.

"Grandfather, mother, older sister." He called each in turn; when he saw Zhou Yinhe, he paused a moment, but still called out "brother."

Zhou Yinhe gave a quiet hum of acknowledgment, satisfiedly sizing up Wen Zhuo; although he wasn't called brother-in-law, his attitude had improved considerably from before.

It wasn't in vain that he suffered an injury; at least he secretly got rid of a romantic rival.

After getting in the car, Wen Ling first asked: "How is Grandfather?"

Wen Zhuo said: "Nothing serious; just hearing you were coming back made him a bit nervous."

Wen Ling furrowed her brows, looking displeased; Wen Zhuo opened a bottle of water for Elder Qin, then opened another for Wen Ling and Qin Siqing; when he took a new one, his hand paused, and he directly tossed it to Zhou Yinhe.

"Don't be angry, older sister." Seeing Wen Ling's face grow even colder, he cautiously advised her; Wen Ling exhaled, having already decided what to say to Grandfather's face on the road.

Elder Wen sat on the living-room sofa, restless, looking toward Wenhuai opposite and said: "I'm tired; I'm going back to my room to sleep."

Wenhuai gave a faint smile: "Zhuo sent a message saying he'll be here soon; please wait here a bit longer."

"At my age, can't I go back to my room when I'm tired?"

"You can, if you think Wen Ling won't come to your room to find you after she arrives, I won't stop you." Wenhuai finished, then spoke gently: "But I suggest you sit here and wait a moment; otherwise, when Wen Ling sees you and realizes you haven't acknowledged your mistake, she might get even angrier."

Elder Wen sighed regretfully; this granddaughter of his is fine in every way, except when her temper flares—she loves whoever she loves.

He sullenly glared at Wenhuai and demanded: "Didn't I say not to tell Wen Ling? Which of you and Wen Zhuo let the word slip?"

Wenhuai remained silent, only smiling, as if saying: "No matter who it is, you're definitely going to get scolded today."

Elder Wen felt even worse.

The car stopped right at the villa gate; Wen Ling didn't bother with anything else, got out and ran inside.

Upon seeing her, Elder Wen rose anxiously, about to make an excuse, but Wen Ling had already run forward and hugged him.

She choked out: "You scared me to death!"

His most beloved granddaughter wept, and Elder Wen couldn't hold back either, sighing while tears flowed.

"I'm really fine; it's just your father and your brother who are needlessly worried."

Wen Ling didn't answer, her trembling body shaking from crying; Qin Siqing and Zhou Yinhe accompanied Elder Qin inside, while Elder Wen only focused on comforting his granddaughter, not noticing them at all.

It was Wenhuai who first noticed; he stepped forward and whispered: "Dad, you've come too."

Elder Qin nodded; Wenhuai was about to call Elder Wen, but Elder Qin stopped him.

"Don't; Wen Ling has been miserable all the way, and now seeing her grandfather well, if she doesn't cry it out I'm afraid she'll make herself sick from holding it in."

Zhou Yinhe had remained silent until now, then stepped forward and said softly: "Uncle."
