Chapter 167

~7 min read 1,348 words

Tomorrow, properly apologize to your dad—your dad is furious with you, and at his age he still has to worry about you.

Zhou Yinhe felt a bit awkward, but he still agreed.

The next day, Zhou Yinhe struggled to move out of the elevator, saw Zhou Shuanglin sitting in a rocking chair by the bed reading the newspaper, felt a little embarrassed, but still stepped forward, standing behind Zhou Shuanglin, and mumbled, "Dad, sorry."

Zhou Shuanglin glanced at him and said lightly, "Oh, the Fifth Young Master still knows how to apologize to others."

Zhou Yinhe: "……"

He was losing face; Ning Qing appeared appropriately, coughed to remind Zhou Shuanglin, who snorted, "I hit you, you don't need to apologize to me—go apologize to A Ling."

"Oh." Zhou Yinhe turned and walked to the living room, took a bottle of iced water from the fridge, twisted it open and took a few sips; Ning Qing followed up and asked him, "Aren't you going to look for A Ling?"

"She'll come to see me today." Zhou Yinhe shook his head.

"Fine, I'll go with your dad to visit your Uncle Jiang's place later; you properly apologize to A Ling, got it?" Ning Qing added another reminder before leaving.

Zhou Yinhe stood in the living room staring out the window for a long while, then stepped into the elevator and went upstairs; back in his room he didn't forget to put the ointment on the bedside table, and besides pulled off his shirt, just lying there on the edge of the bed.

When Wen Ling arrived, besides the butler and servants, no one else was present in the Zhou household.

The butler saw her and approached with a smile, "Miss Wen, you've finally come; the Fifth Young Master is in his room."

Wen Ling handed over all the gifts she had brought back from the Qin family for Qin Lao to the butler, then went upstairs to find Zhou Yinhe.

Zhou Yinhe had been waiting for her so long he was almost asleep; seeing her come, he excitedly tried to get up, forgetting he still had two glaring red swollen wounds on his back.

He hissed, and Wen Ling hurried forward to press him back down.

"Don't move."

Wen Ling looked at his wound, feeling heartbroken, and murmured, "How could it be so serious."

Zhou Yinhe's gaze lingered on her face without shifting; seeing her distressed, his heart felt much easier, yet his nose tingled with sourness.

"I know I was wrong; I shouldn't have lost my temper with you—don't be angry with me."

Wen Ling gazed at his slightly reddened, watery eyes, a faint pang of sympathy rising in her heart; she quickly looked away and pretended to be angry, saying, "Boo-hoo-hoo, all your good luck's been cried away."

Zhou Yinhe stared, eyes wide in disbelief at Wen Ling, "You……"

How is his Baobao now……

Wen Ling blinked to hide her smile, reached out and pinched his cheek, "Have you applied the medicine?"

"No." Zhou Yinhe rubbed her palm, speaking frankly: "My second brother wanted to apply it for me, but I wanted you to do it."

Sly.

Although Wen Ling said that, she still had him lie still, took the ointment and carefully applied to him once.

I don't know if it's psychological or Wen Ling's deliberate teasing, but he kept feeling a tingling numbness on his back, so numb he let out a soft moan and his cheeks flushed.

After Wen Ling finished applying the ointment, she noticed her hair strands had rubbed many times against his waist dimple; she lifted her gaze to Zhou Yinhe's hazy eyes, gave a light cough, and tucked her hair behind her ear.

Zhou Yinhe raised his hand and grasped hers, whispering, "Can you stay with me until tonight?"

"Sure." Wen Ling realized, anyway they hadn't done anything yet, and family members wouldn't be unaware of what lovers who spend every day together might do; as for outsiders, those aristocratic young masters play around plenty.

She stayed with Zhou Yinhe at Feng Qi Yuan until the afternoon, when Qin Yuchen called her.

"A Ling, Lu Zhaoye came to see Wen Lao; do you want to come back?"

Wen Ling's fiddling with Zhou Yinhe's fingers paused; Zhou Yinhe was very close, and he heard Qin Yuchen's words.

He pursed his lips, quite displeased, but when Wen Ling looked at him he composed himself, gazing at her with a wronged expression; Wen Ling found it amusing and told Qin Yuchen on the phone, "I'm not going back; I'm keeping Zhou Yinhe company."

Zhou Yinhe was satisfied; after Qin Yuchen hung up, he couldn't stop laughing.

He had deliberately called Wen Ling just to tease Zhou Yinhe.

Ning Qing and Zhou Shuanglin went to the Jiang family as guests; Jiang Jibai asked a couple of questions about Zhou Yinhe, and Ning Qing didn't hide anything for her son, directly saying it; then everyone in their group found out that Zhou Yinhe had been beaten by his father.

Zhou Yinhe blinked, saying magnanimously, "You can go back first, it's fine."

Wen Ling directly exposed his little thought: "If I really went back, you'd be scared to death, and then you'd cry again."

"……" Although it was true, saying it still made him a bit shy; Zhou Yinhe pulled Wen Ling's hand over his eyes, but the upward curve of his lips couldn't be suppressed.

Wen Ling rubbed against him, leaning on his shoulder and yawning.

She had stayed up late playing with Liushutong the night before, got up early this morning to come see Zhou Yinhe, and hadn't caught up on sleep at noon; now drowsiness washed over her.

"I'll nap a bit; wake me at dinner time, and then I should head back to the Qin family."

Zhou Yinhe agreed in appearance but opposed in spirit.

But when Wen Ling woke, the room was pitch dark; she thought she had just pulled the curtains, yet when she shifted her body and turned her face, she saw only a faint yellow glow from the garden on the first floor outside, and all around was utterly silent.

Wen Ling felt something off, picked up her phone, and saw it was midnight.

Zhou Yinhe's side face leaned against her, breathing steady and long; Wen Ling gritted her teeth, wanting to hit him, but considering his back wound, she instead reached out to pinch his cheek with some force.

"What are you doing, Baobao?" Zhou Yinhe patted her hand, frowned and complained, "I'm sleeping."

"Still sleeping! I told you to wake me at dinner—what time is it now!" She shoved the phone screen in his face; the light flashed in Zhou Yinhe's eyes, and he rubbed them before he could see clearly.

He feigned surprise, "I also fell asleep, I don't know how it got to be twelve."

Wen Ling gritted her teeth, knowing he was lying; everyone in the Zhou household knew she was there, so there's no way they wouldn't have called them for dinner—surely Zhou Yinhe was up to something, but she couldn't say anything.

She sighed helplessly and raked her fingers through her hair.

"Don't be angry." Zhou Yinhe shifted slightly toward her and said carefully.

Wen Ling glanced at him; in the dim outside light, his angles were highlighted, those narrow eyes glittering with tiny specks of light, his expression somewhat appeasing.

Seeing him like that, Wen Ling could no longer stay angry; she sighed, reached out to sweep the hair from his forehead back, exposing his brow, and kissed his forehead.

"Have you eaten dinner?"

Zhou Yinhe shook his head; Ning Qing and Zhou Shuanglin had been left to eat dinner at the Jiang family's, while his older brother and sister-in-law, because of the message he posted in the group, were eating out, and upon returning home went straight to their rooms—so the whole Feng Qi Yuan was basically quiet.

Wen Ling sat up, preparing to order takeout on her phone; at this hour it wouldn't be good to bother the cook.
