Chapter 170: Sending You Mother and Daughter to the Mental Hospital

~8 min read 1,425 words

Inside the courtyard, Qin Siyan knelt before Qin Lao, crying and shouting, as if she were about to cry, make a scene, and then hang herself.

"Dad, I know you don't like me and you're dissatisfied with me, but could you have some pity on MiaoMiao?"

Wen Ling stood at the doorway, and when she heard that name she furrowed her brows.

Recently she had been only thinking about staying with Zhou Yinhe, and with Wen Lao's illness, she had completely forgotten about Ruan MiaoMiao.

Seeing them come out, the steward walked over and whispered to Wen Ling, "Miss MiaoMiao and the Yang Family's Eldest Young Master obtained a marriage certificate, and then the Yang Family's Eldest Young Master beat her."

Wen Ling's face instantly darkened; Zhou Yinhe took her hand, gave it a squeeze, and whispered, "I'm here."

Qin Siyan crawled forward on her knees, grabbed Qin Lao's trouser leg, and wept with tears and snot streaming.

"Please, for the sake of MiaoMiao having been by your side for many years, save her."

Qin Lao felt terrible too, but Ruan MiaoMiao's current predicament is her own doing; even if he went to the Yang Family to demand her back, what then? Would she return to being the same as before?

But if he didn't save her, he couldn't bear it either.

Just as he was agonizing over it, Wen Ling suddenly said, "Grandfather, let me accompany you to the Yang Family. No matter what, MiaoMiao is still a cousin of the Qin Family; for the Yang Family to do this is to show no regard for the Qin Family."

"All right." Qin Lao turned to glance at her and nodded, but Zhou Yinhe said, "I'll go with Lingling; Grandfather Qin, you're old, you shouldn't tire yourself out."

With the Zhou Family's influence and status, if we really went to the Yang Family, they'd likely be so frightened they'd shut their doors and windows and dare not show themselves.

Qin Lao hesitated a bit, then after looking at the lively Wen Lao for a while, he said, "Let Xiao Wu go; if you go and stir up some illness again, after I've taken care of you, Ah Ling will still have to look after you."

Qin Lao: "..."

"Fine," Qin Lao had no choice but to agree.

They didn't even stop for dinner; Wen Ling and Zhou Yinhe walked out together. As they passed Qin Siyan, Wen Ling halted her steps, lowered her gaze to the weakly kneeling Qin Siyan on the ground, and to the vicious look in her eyes that she hadn't yet withdrawn.

Wen Ling gave a cold smile and said lightly, "Aunt, I'm helping you save your daughter, yet you look at me with such eyes."

Qin Siyan widened her eyes, never expecting her to be so directly exposed; she hurriedly shook her head and explained, "I don't, Ah Ling, you've mistaken me; I really don't."

"Really?" Wen Ling chuckled lightly, "Then that look you just gave me—what else could it be but hatred for me?"

"I—I was just thinking about the Yang Family people, I'm so angry, it's not aimed at you." Qin Siyan shook her head vigorously.

Wen Ling slowly nodded; she was helping Ruan MiaoMiao because she knew Grandfather was in a difficult spot and she didn't want him to feel uneasy inside, not because she cared about MiaoMiao herself, let alone this ungrateful aunt.

Wen Ling snorted coldly, then strode toward the car where the driver waited not far away, while Zhou Yinhe remained where he was, coldly staring at Qin Siyan.

"Miss Qin, put away your scheming little thoughts; Ah Ling may out of deference to Grandfather Qin not want to quarrel with you mother and daughter, but I will not—I'm sure you know my temperament—if you truly offend me, I wouldn't mind sending you both to a mental hospital to knock some sense into you."

Qin Siyan's eyes widened in fear, and both Qin Lao and Wen Lao, who heard those words, let out a sigh.

"Oh, if you don't want to go to the mental hospital, that's fine too; I keep a number of wolves on my estate in the suburbs, and you're welcome to go keep them company."

Qin Siyan trembled uncontrollably, unable to utter another word; she averted her gaze from Zhou Yinhe's knife‑sharp eyes, her heart already leaping to her throat.

Zhou Yinhe narrowed his eyes at her, seeing that Qin Siyan was about to be frightened into collapsing, while Wen Ling, not far off, rolled down the car window and shouted, "Hurry up, what are you doing?"

Zhou Yinhe replied gently, "Just a few words with Miss Qin, and I'll be right there."

As he walked toward the car, he said, "What's the rush? You know I'm injured, yet you truly don't care about me at all."

His volume was just right—loud enough for Qin Siyan to hear.

This man changes his expression so quickly—just moments ago he spoke down to her as if he were about to take her life, and now he's acting all coquettish; the huge shift in attitude left Qin Siyan flustered, her heart racing, as if she might faint from lack of breath at any moment.

Fortunately, the steward had the servants help her up, comforted her with a few words, and then had the servants help Qin Siyan to the room where Ruan MiaoMiao had previously stayed.

That room hadn't been cleaned in a long time; at that moment a light dust floated in the air. The steward looked at Qin Siyan's face and said, "Sorry, Miss, I'll have someone clean it right away."

After saying that, he turned and left the room, leaving Qin Siyan, who had been trying to put on an airs of a young lady but grew angry because the steward ignored her.

Wen Ling and Zhou Yinhe set off together for the Yang Family; along the way, Zhou Yinhe casually told Wen Ling a few of the stupid things the Yang Family's Eldest Young Master had done.

"When the Yang Family first rose, this eldest young master ran to Jiang Jibai's turf to cause trouble, thinking Jiang Jibai would let him off; Jiang Jibai had people beat him up, and the next day his father brought him to the Jiang Family to apologize, only for Jiang Jibai to drive him away—but Jiang Uncle felt that a beating was enough and there was no need to hold a grudge, so the matter passed."

Wen Ling stared, dumbfounded, and asked, "Does he have no self‑awareness? What standing does the Yang Family have, yet he dares to shout at Jiang Jibai?"

Zhou Yinhe also wanted to laugh, "Yeah, so we've been joking about this for a long time, saying that perhaps in the Yang Family young master's heart, Jiang Jibai is an easy target—why does he only yell at him and not at others?"

Wen Ling thought these men were rather immature; she didn't respond, just lifted her chin to signal Zhou Yinhe to keep going.

The Zhou Family residence is far away; with nothing interesting along the route, Wen Ling really felt bored.

"Hmm, let me think," Zhou Yinhe pretended to recall, his eyes crinkling, obviously intending to tease Wen Ling.

Wen Ling raised her hand and slapped him—though not hard—yet Zhou Yinhe still let out a yelp.

"That hurts."

"Stop pretending; you know exactly how much force I used." Wen Ling gave him a sideways glance. "Go on."

Zhou Yinhe, feeling wronged, rubbed the back of his hand that Wen Ling had hit, and continued, "He once even dreamed of chasing after my older sister, telling her he had consulted a master who calculated that he and my older sister were a natural pair, able to bring prosperity to each other; but back then Zhao Ningyan could never win the title, hearing that she flew into a rage, she directly led people to the Yang Family and smashed the newly purchased antiques to smithereens; the Yang Family went to complain to Zhao Shu, but Zhao Shu, who is fiercely protective of his own, sent people again to the Yang Family to smash the antiques they had hidden."

Wen Ling let out a puff of laughter; the Yang Family, top to bottom, is just not smart.

But she also realized that, given how many foolish things the Yang Family people have done before, it stands to reason they couldn't have pulled off tricking Ruan MiaoMiao into marriage and then controlling her.
