Chapter 213: Who are you looking down on?

~7 min read 1,255 words

Wen Ling pursed her lips, feeling somewhat wronged, turned and flung herself into Zhou Yinhe's arms.

"Why did you suddenly do all this? Why not just tell me directly? You made me think you were up to some nasty trick again to bully me."

Zhou Yinhe rubbed her hair and whispered in Wen Ling's ear with an innocent tone: "Am I really that kind of person in your eyes?"

Wen Ling nodded bluntly, and in return Zhou Yinhe just as bluntly bit her earlobe and tugged.

Although he brought Wen Ling here, he indeed had no good intentions, but being called out directly still wasn't acceptable.

"Baobao, you'll probably have to put up with my childish temper from now on, sorry for the trouble."

Zhou Yinhe knows his own strengths and weaknesses; frankly, his strengths aren't worth mentioning compared to his weaknesses, except for the good looks Ning Qing and Zhou Shuanglin gave him—he has plenty of flaws.

Short-tempered, immature, stubborn, greedy… and so on, too many to list.

Wen Ling stepped back a little to look at his face, saw his eyes red again, exclaimed "Oh no," cupped his face, and said helplessly: "Why are you crying again? Are your tear ducts overactive?"

Zhou Yinhe turned his face away and muttered: "An unromantic woman."

"Fine, fine, fine, it's my fault, my fault." Wen Ling sighed, kneaded his cheek, pressed his lips together, tiptoed to bite his lip, and softly coaxed: "I don't believe you don't want to do anything today; I'll give you a chance to bully me, just to appease you—no crying, okay?"

Zhou Yinhe's eyes lit up, yet he stubbornly insisted: "I didn't cry."

"No crying?" Wen Ling clearly saw the light in his eyes and the surprise he inadvertently showed, drawing out her voice: "If that's the case, forget it—let's go home. People will be arranged to move those diamonds later; after we get back we can still go to the Qin family for dinner together."

"No." Zhou Yinhe grabbed her hand, pointed to another room, and smiled with crinkled eyes: "I've already had dinner prepared. Are you hungry? Let's eat first."

Wen Ling wasn't very hungry, but worried she might get hungry later, so she thought she'd just have a few bites to tide her over—she didn't expect Zhou Yinhe to have prepared so thoroughly.

The table was full of what she loved to eat, and even the wine was prepared in various types according to her preferences.

Wen Ling narrowed her eyes, turned to look at Zhou Yinhe, saw him nervously touch his nose, guessed his little thought, and bluntly pointed out: "Did you do this on purpose, preparing all that alcohol?"

"... Ah." Zhou Yinhe feigned ignorance, shaking his head: "How could that be? My alcohol tolerance isn't as good as yours—if you get drunk, how could I stay sober?"

Nonsense—she had long known how good this guy's acting was; the "one drink and I'm drunk" act, he inherited Zhou Shuanglin's physique, immune to alcohol!! It was all an act before!

Wen Ling rolled her eyes, walked to the table and sat down by herself, didn't need Zhou Yinhe to pour her wine—she poured it herself.

"Sit down, what are you standing there for?" Wen Ling frowned at Zhou Yinhe, who stood motionless.

Anyway, she couldn't run away, struggling was just tiring, so she might as well go with the flow; besides, Zhou Yinhe wouldn't only look out for himself, and though Wen Ling felt this wasn't something to overdo, plus Zhou Yinhe was indeed a handful, seeing that he himself didn't care, there was no point for her to worry about it.

After Zhou Yinhe sat down, she lifted her gaze to him, suddenly smiled, and said: "You never think ahead—what will you do when you're older?"

"???" Zhou Yinhe looked blank, slow to catch on, but once he saw Wen Ling's teasing expression he understood, instantly flared up and shouted: "Who are you looking down on?"

Wen Ling shrugged and said nonchalantly: "I'm fine with it; you yourself said there's no bad land, only exhausted oxen—so if you ever can't keep up, I won't look down on you."

Zhou Yinhe gritted his teeth and ground out two words: "I can."

He was fired up, eager to prove himself, rose, went to Wen Ling's side, lowered his head and bit her lip; as she pliantly leaned against him, he bent down, lifted her, and strode into the bedroom.

At some point, a strong wind suddenly blew outside; Wen Ling turned her face to the window and shrank back in fear.

"Won't it blow us off...?" she asked haltingly.

Zhou Yinhe's eyes darkened, and he said in a hoarse voice: "It won't."

His good days have just begun—how could he let anything happen to himself and Wen Ling?

Wen Ling couldn't put her mind at ease, trembling as she hid in his arms.

After taking a bath and returning to the bedroom, the wind outside had also stopped; Wen Ling even wondered if heaven itself was helping Zhou Yinhe, after all, just now because she was scared, it caused Zhou Yinhe to……

She lay back on the bed, turned her side to face the glass wall, gazed at the scenery outside, narrowed her eyes to feel the atmosphere.

Zhou Yinhe finally finished cleaning up and returned; seeing her expression, he smiled, lay down and embraced Wen Ling, brushed her hair aside and kissed her nape, his earlier hoarseness still not gone, and asked lazily: "Hungry?"

Wen Ling shook her head, turned over and buried herself in Zhou Yinhe's arms, yawning from fatigue.

Having just expended all her energy, she now only wanted to sleep; as for whether she was hungry, she'd deal with Zhou Yinhe after she woke up.

"What could I eat to give Zhou Yinhe a chance to serve me?" Wen Ling pondered for a long time, still couldn't think of an answer, and fell asleep.

Zhou Yinhe was far more awake than she; hearing the light, even breathing from her in his arms, he knew Wen Ling had already fallen asleep.

He tightened his hold on her arms, inch by inch pulling her closer to himself, almost wishing to fuse their skeletons together—sometimes extreme ideas fogged his mind—until he heard her uncomfortable whimper, then he finally came to his senses, released his grip, and gently patted her back to lull her back to sleep.

Zhou Yinhe let out a long breath; Wen Ling slept soundly, and he too caught her drowsiness, fatigue washing over him.

When the two rushed from the Scenic Overlook to the Qin family residence, Ning Qing and Zhou Shuanglin were already in the Qin household, having changed the tea.

Seeing them arrive late, Zhou Shuanglin frowned at her son, said nothing, while Ning Qing wondered aloud: "Where are you living now? Why did it take you so long to get here?"

Wen Ling didn't know how to explain; she raised her hand, and with her long-manicured fingernail she jabbed Zhou Yinhe's waist.

It hurt; Zhou Yinhe hissed from the jab, then quickly tried to appease her by grabbing her hand and squeezing it in his palm, telling his parents: "We're at the Scenic Overlook."

The Scenic Overlook was left to Zhou Yinhe by the Zhou family patriarch; Ning Qing naturally knew this, also knew how meticulously her son had designed and renovated it, and knew that a few days earlier her son had gathered all those uncut diamond mountains for Wen Ling.
