Chapter 232: Do I Look Delicious?

~7 min read 1,351 words

Zhou Yinhe rubbed the tip of his nose and muttered, "I'm just not familiar with the area, that's why I got lost and ended up here."

Wen Ling gave a cold laugh and ignored him.

Zhou Yinhe didn't mind either, following Wen Ling step for step; although he was hot to the point of unbearable, he still hummed a song in a good mood.

Wen Ling was annoyed by his humming, furrowed her brows and glared at him, saying coldly, "Why are you following me?"

"Huh? Weren't you supposed to take me out to eat?"

Wen Ling couldn't help but laugh angrily twice, asking him, "When did I say I'd take you out to eat?"

"But when I just said that to you, you didn't refuse." Zhou Yinhe pouted his lips aggrievedly.

Wen Ling stopped, turned around and looked at him, her gaze calm as she assessed him.

Zhou Yinhe wasn't like this before; although he often had a little temper, he wouldn't act all spoiled and aggrieved from time to time like now.

She couldn't control herself, raised her hand to pinch Zhou Yinhe's cheeks and shook them, asking doubtfully, "Are you still Zhou Yinhe?"

Zhou Yinhe let her pinch him, went along with her shaking, and narrowed his eyes.

This was the only somewhat intimate gesture Wen Ling had made toward him since he came back.

"You don't really suspect I'm fake, do you?" Zhou Yinhe curled his lips and laughed low, "Like a painted skin? Plastic surgery?"

Wen Ling stared, finally reacted, jerked her hand back, snorted coldly, and continued walking forward.

"Why aren't you driving? Aren't you hot?" Zhou Yinhe caught up to her and walked side by side, asking gently.

Wen Ling didn't want to talk to him, pressed her lips and looked straight ahead; Zhou Yinhe shrugged, Wen Ling turned and he turned too, Wen Ling stepped to the side and he stepped as well, forcing her step by step to the roadside.

Wen Ling stood where she was, suppressing her anger, and said word by word, "Do you find me unpleasant and want to push me away, or do you simply want to squeeze me to death?"

Zhou Yinhe hehe-laughed, raised his hand and pulled Wen Ling back into an embrace, not letting go, and said softly, "I just want to be closer to you."

"Thanks." Wen Ling glared at him irritably, took a few steps before realizing Zhou Yinhe's arm was still draped over her.

She irritably shoved Zhou Yinhe away and strode forward.

Wen Ling's heart is still in turmoil; since the breakup, she had finally gotten used to the days without Zhou Yinhe by her side, but now he reappeared, thick-skinned, swaying in front of her, occasionally wanting to hold her hand and hug her.

Wen Ling felt that the little pride she had left was about to be worn away.

But she hadn't even realized that this was Zhou Yinhe's second time seeing her after the breakup; the first time was that night, when he only said two sentences.

Zhou Yinhe stopped in his tracks, pursed his lips and smiled lightly.

If others could read Wen Ling's inner thoughts with an eighty percent accuracy rate, he would surely be a hundred percent.

Wen Ling's current thoughts—how could he not understand? The scale balancing her pride and Zhou Yinhe has already tilted, and even the side holding her pride is about to sink to the bottom.

Zhou Yinhe lowered his head, rubbed his reddened eye sockets, jogged to catch up with Wen Ling's pace, grabbed her hand in one grip, and wouldn't let go no matter how she struggled.

"Don't play hard to get here; we've already broken up." Wen Ling glared angrily.

Zhou Yinhe blinked his eyes, innocent: "I might be a bit heat-stroked; I'm afraid I'll fall, so hold my hand."

He feared Wen Ling might not accept it, so he added: "Just consider it friends helping each other out."

Wen Ling felt she was about to burst into heatstroke from anger; she gave a hehe laugh, yet still left her little finger for Zhou Yinhe to hold.

Outside the villa district there were many Western restaurants; Wen Ling casually entered one, not caring whether the opposite Zhou Yinhe was used to eating such food, she ordered for herself and also ordered the same for Zhou Yinhe.

She leaned back in the chair, turned her head to watch the people coming and going outside; while eating, she only lowered her head to eat her own meal, simply unwilling to look at Zhou Yinhe.

Zhou Yinhe, however, kept gazing at Wen Ling with a smile, making her feel uncomfortable all over; she finally couldn't stand it and glared at him.

"Why are you staring at me? Do I look delicious?"

"Mm," Zhou Yinhe nodded seriously, lightly licked the corner of his lips, and said solemnly, "Delicious."

Wen Ling's cheeks flushed; no matter what, she felt that this "delicious" and the "delicious" he meant were not the same thing.

"Bastard, eat your own rice!" Wen Ling gritted her teeth, forced herself not to mind his gaze, and continued eating her own meal.

Zhou Yinhe regretfully withdrew his gaze, eating while thinking, what excuse should he use after the meal to keep clinging to Wen Ling?

Just then, Zhou Yinhe's phone rang; it was Jiang Jibai calling.

His phone ringtone has remained the same as when he was with Wen Ling, the one she set for him, and he hasn't changed it to this day.

Wen Ling glanced at his phone; it wasn't the old one, probably a later synchronization by Zhou Yinhe himself.

She looked away, and Zhou Yinhe answered the call.

"What's up?"

I didn't hear what the other side said; Wen Ling only heard Zhou Yinhe continue, "In M Country."

"Mm, we'll talk later when I get back."

"What does my coming here have to do with you? Don't bother me."

"Hang up; don't disturb me if there's nothing going on lately."

He didn't wait for Jiang Jibai to finish, hung up directly, and when he put the phone back on the table, the screen was still lit.

Wen Ling caught it in her peripheral vision, her heart gave a jolt; the group photo on the screen was the one she had been using as her social media background picture to this day.

The hand holding the knife and fork trembled again and again; she forced herself to let that feeling fade.

After finishing the meal, Wen Ling hadn't yet had time to go pay, Zhou Yinhe had already handed his card to the waiter, excitedly saying to Wen Ling, "Where to next?"

Wen Ling frowned: "Where to where? Everyone go home and find their own mothers."

Zhou Yinhe curled his lips, followed behind Wen Ling out of the restaurant, whispering as they walked, "Mom."

"……"

Wen Ling's admiration for his thick-skinnedness had reached the point of wholehearted conviction; her shock could be said to have reached terror, and her expression looking at Zhou Yinhe was as if she were seeing some monster or demon.

"Are you... having a brain problem from staying in the hospital?" Wen Ling's voice was slow, each word revealing how incomprehensible she found it.

She tiptoed, placed her hand on Zhou Yinhe's forehead, tried again and again, saying, "You don't even have a fever; if not, you should go to the hospital for a check-up to see if there's something wrong with your mind."

"Don't worry, I'm fine." Zhou Yinhe laughed without restraint, blinking his eyes and asking, "But how do you know I was hospitalized?"

Wen Ling was choked by his sudden topic shift, turned her head and continued walking outward, not answering Zhou Yinhe.

Zhou Yinhe also didn't insist on questioning further; he simply followed Wen Ling all the way to her home.

He said pitifully, "Can I come to your house and sit for a while? I feel a bit dizzy; I might have heatstroke."

Wen Ling looked at him quietly and said lightly, "I can help you call the hospital."
