Chapter 24: Do You Have a Way to Deal With Me?

~7 min read 1,339 words

Nurse saw Zhou Yinhe leave, curiously came over and asked: "That handsome guy just now was really handsome, who is he? I saw him know the noble lady next door to you, his family background should also be not bad."

Wen Ling didn't want to mention it, she shook her head and handed the fruit bowl in her hand to the nurse, clutching her phone as she returned to the ward.

Zhou Yinhe walked out of the hospital, feeling increasingly regretful.

He clearly just wanted to see her, but he didn't expect to be unable to resist speaking to her.

Cheng Yu followed behind him, sighing inwardly.

What an awkward personality.

Zhou Yinhe got into the car, Cheng Yu turned from the passenger seat and said: "General Manager Zhou, Madam just called, saying she wants you to come home this afternoon."

Zhou Yinhe frowned slightly, asking: "What did she say?"

Cheng Yu shook his head: "No."

"Take me back now." Zhou Yinhe rubbed his forehead, ordering.

His driver drove steadily and quickly, and soon the car stopped outside Feng Qi Yuan of the Zhou Family.

Cheng Yu saw the person standing at the gate, turned and said: "General Manager Zhou, your second elder brother is waiting for you at the gate."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yinhe felt his head start to hurt again, he sighed and told the driver and Cheng Yu: "You go ahead first."

After saying that, he got out of the car, saw his second elder brother walking over, and he instinctively sighed again.

Strangely, Zhou Yinhe isn't afraid of his other three older brothers and sisters, but he feels helpless toward this gentle and jade-like second elder brother, because no matter what he says or does, it makes him seem unreasonable.

"Xiao Wu, you came back so quickly, it wasn't in vain that I waited for you at the gate for so long."

Zhou Yinhe turned his head away, not looking at him, and said coldly: "Why suddenly call me back?"

Zhou Congyu didn't take his rudeness to heart, lightly laughed and said: "Let's go, Mother is waiting for us."

Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips and followed, seeing in the garden Ning Qing sitting at an exquisite round table drinking afternoon tea, and an unfamiliar girl.

He stopped his steps, standing in place not wanting to move forward another step. He knew! His unconventional mother wouldn't summon him back for no reason!

Zhou Congyu noticed his hesitation, turned to look at him, and gently said: "Why aren't you going?"

"What does Mother want again?" Zhou Yinhe said impatiently.

"What do you think Mother wants to do?" Zhou Congyu countered.

Zhou Yinhe turned to leave, throwing out: "I'm leaving, go tell our Mother, next time if you call me for this, I guarantee I won't come back again."

"Your leaving shows you're still thinking of Wen Ling." Zhou Congyu said lightly: "Or perhaps you already want to get back together with Wen Ling."

"What does it have to do with her?" Zhou Yinhe's tone grew increasingly hostile.

Zhou Congyu grabbed him, helplessly saying: "Xiao Wu, when you were little you mostly stayed by my side; even though I was still a half-grown kid, I had already begun taking care of you, so I can say I'm the one who understands you best in the family—how could I not know what's on your mind?"

Their mother likes children but lacks patience, also because this youngest brother is unlike typical troublesome kids—one wrong word and he gets upset, turns his face and ignores people; their four older siblings are all significantly older than him and also willing to indulge him, but who would have thought that as he grew older his personality became more awkward and he became stubborn-mouthed.

"I didn't think that." Zhou Yinhe said coldly and sternly: "I'm not that forgetful; I don't want to experience what happened three years again. I've said this to Mother and to the eldest sister."

After Zhou Yinhe finished his last sentence, he turned and strode away; Zhou Congyu watched his back, seeing no sign of anger, and even curled his lips in a light smile, going to convey his younger brother's meaning to their old mother.

Ning Qing saw him come himself, stood up and glanced a few times behind him, curiously asking: "Where is your younger brother? Didn't the butler say he came back?"

"Mother." Zhou Congyu called out, turned his head to glance at the girl with slightly flushed cheeks, and said smiling: "Miss, we're really sorry, we have family matters to discuss, so we won't keep you." He looked at the steward standing aside and ordered: "Go prepare a gift of apology for this miss."

He was clearly smiling, his smile very gentle, with all the proper etiquette, yet the girl felt uncomfortable all over; upon seeing the coldness in his eyes, she instinctively stood up, embarrassed, saying: "It's fine, it's fine, Aunt Ning, Second Young Master, I'll go first."

Ning Qing opened her mouth to try to stop her, but seeing her second son's expression, she could only swallow the words she hadn't spoken, watching the future daughter-in-law she had selected gradually leave.

Zhou Congyu sat down, Ning Qing questioned: "Where is your younger brother? And what about Miss Yang just now—why did you drive her away?"

"Xiao Wu was driven away by your anger; let me tell you, if you keep arbitrarily playing matchmaker like this, he won't come back next time." Zhou Congyu said lightly.

Ning Qing furrowed her elegant brows: "What does arbitrarily playing matchmaker mean? Wasn't that girl just now fine? Your younger brother is unhappy every day because of Wen Ling, and I'm not just trying to divert his attention?"

"You also know he's unhappy now; isn't what you're doing just adding trouble for him?" Zhou Congyu looked helplessly at his mother, advising: "Just don't interfere—Xiao Wu is already twenty-six, and your meddling will only annoy him."

"Heartless." Ning Qing muttered.

Zhou Congyu could only softly coax his old mother.

Wen Ling returned to the ward, and not long after someone knocked on the door.

She thought it was the nurse, and softly said: "Please come in."

Seeing the visitor, Wen Ling furrowed her brows, feigning incomprehension: "What are you here for?"

Qi Zhan swaggered in, hearing this he snorted with a laugh: "How come? Not pretending to be pitiful anymore?"

Wen Ling curled her lips and smiled, speaking gently: "Young Master Qi, don't hide behind eavesdropping and spying every day; it damages your status as a young master."

Qi Zhan's face darkened, warning: "Don't keep mocking me here; I'm not like Xiao Wu who can tolerate your temper."

Wen Ling adjusted her sitting posture; even her hospital gown couldn't conceal her queenly aura, she dropped the pretense entirely: "If you don't like it, go tell Zhou Yinhe—say my grievances are all an act for him to see, see if he believes it."

Qi Zhan recalled Zhou Yinhe's lovesick behavior, gritted his teeth and said: "You think I have no way to deal with you?"

"Do you have a way to deal with me?" Wen Ling lightly laughed and threw the question back at him.

Qi Zhan truly had no way; the two-faced woman before him made him, who regarded Xiao Wu as a younger brother, have his mind full of her—what could he do? To go and snitch to Xiao Wu like a petty person would make him despise himself.

"I warn you, don't look for Xiao Wu again—didn't you hurt him once three years ago enough? Now you want to hurt him again?"

Wen Ling bit her lip, unable to deny that Qi Zhan was truly good to Zhou Yinhe, so she didn't continue using that mocking tone against him, softly saying: "I won't let what happened three years ago happen again."

"It's easy to change rivers and mountains but hard to change one's nature," Qi Zhan didn't believe it, glared at her once and turned to leave.
