Chapter 243: I Want to Give It to You, to Make You Happy

~7 min read 1,382 words

Zhou Yinhe stayed at Wen Ling's place, but he didn't intrude into her room, so he ended up sleeping in the guest room for a night.

The next day the weather was clear, Zhou Yinhe woke up early, opened the window to feel the outside temperature.

Because it had rained, the temperature wasn't high and wasn't that hot, very suitable for going out.

Wen Ling probably hadn't woken up yet, so Zhou Yinhe went downstairs first, found the cook to make breakfast; by the time Wen Ling came down, the cook had just left.

"I'll come find you at noon, we'll have lunch near your company, and then in the evening I'll pick you up to go to the restaurant I've booked?"

Wen Ling frowned, puzzled, and asked: "Why do we have to go only in the evening?"

She still thought Zhou Yinhe just wanted to explain the situation to her.

Zhou Yinhe raised an eyebrow, teasing: "Why the rush?"

Wen Ling glared at him, finished her meal, got up and left; when she reached the foyer she suddenly remembered something, turned back and said: "You don't need to come find me for lunch at noon, I'm planning to go back to the old residence."

"Huh? Why?" Zhou Yinhe frowned, not very happy.

"I have something to discuss with my grandfather."

After saying that, Wen Ling left without further explanation, leaving Zhou Yinhe standing there with his eyes lowered.

He thought it over; it was nothing more than two matters: one concerning Wen Ling's uncle, and one related to him.

Thinking of Wen Ling's troublesome uncle, Zhou Yinhe's face gradually grew cold; he got up, fetched his phone from the living room, and placed a call.

"Is the matter settled?"

"Fifth Young Master, it's a bit tricky; on the M Country side we can't be too conspicuous, so we can only proceed slowly."

Zhou Yinhe said coldly: "Hurry up."

The other party whispered something, and Zhou Yinhe's expression improved considerably.

At noon Wen Ling returned to Wen Garden; her grandfather hadn't taken his midday rest yet, and seeing her come back he was somewhat surprised.

"How come you suddenly came back?"

Wen Ling pressed her lips and said: "Grandfather, I want to discuss with you the matter concerning my uncle's family."

The grandfather was a little taken aback, then quickly became serious; he sat upright and said earnestly: "Go ahead, I'm listening."

"I don't want to continue like this, so I intend to increase the pressure on my uncle's family; if it ends up hurting my uncle, grandfather, I hope you won't blame me."

The grandfather lowered his eyes, recalling the days he once spent with his brother, and couldn't help but let out a long sigh.

"All right, Ah Ling, just do as you think best."

Wen Ling gazed at her grandfather's aged face, said nothing more, rose, found an excuse to leave, and left him space to reminisce about the past.

Wen Lao watched her receding silhouette, then rose and slowly went upstairs; entering the study, he pulled out an old photograph from the drawer—a picture of him and his deceased brother together.

In their youth they depended on each other for survival, and later they founded what is now the Wen Group.

The Wen Group was split in half, one half for him and one half for his brother; but his brother's son was unworthy, and after his brother's death he squandered his share completely. It was he who, through painstaking effort, brought the Wen Group back to its present standing—yet he never expected that the nephew would emerge when Ah Ling takes over, trying to seize the Wen Group.

He kept his brother in his heart, so he was reluctant to intervene, but now…

Wen Lao sighed, stopped thinking further, and only said to the attendant at his side: "I'm old, it's time to retire; the remaining affairs should be left to the younger generation."

The butler smiled and said: "Miss and Young Master Wen Zhuo have grown up; you should also take a rest."

Wen Lao rose, stood by the window with his hands behind his back, and said: "Let you investigate that Zhou Family kid—how's the investigation going?"

"The Fifth Young Master of the Zhou Family lives up to being someone the Miss took a liking to; although his temper isn't great outwardly, his conduct and deeds are faultless." The butler brought out the investigation file and documents on Zhou Yinhe's daily behavior and handed them to Wen Lao; Wen Lao glanced at them, snorted with a laugh, and tossed them aside.

"If he's no good, I still wouldn't agree." Wen Lao chuckled sighingly: "Ah Ling's parents aren't close to her; I know that this Zhou Family kid used to treat her very well; after Ah Ling dumped him, he still came chasing after her to reconcile, which shows he truly likes Ah Ling."

He let out a long breath and said: "This way, I feel much more relieved."

Zhou Yinhe had long awaited this evening; he drove to the Wen Group Building, and while waiting in the distance for Wen Ling, he somehow recalled that time when Wen Ling had likewise waited for him downstairs at the company, when he had stood her up, and that bouquet of flowers was still the one he had bought from the janitor.

He pursed his lips, decided to make it up to Wen Ling, glanced around, and walked toward a nearby flower shop.

After Wen Ling went downstairs she saw his car from afar, but when she approached she didn't see Zhou Yinhe himself; just as she was about to call him, she heard him call her from behind.

She turned around, and Zhou Yinhe's entire person was obscured by a large bouquet of red roses.

Wen Ling stepped forward and softly asked: "Why did you suddenly buy flowers?"

"I want to give them to you, to make you happy." Zhou Yinhe turned his head, peeked out from behind the bouquet, and said gently: "To make up for the time I stood you up."

Although Wen Ling didn't understand what he meant, she still took the flowers and held them in her arms; the bouquet was heavy, and the floral arrangement tools inside were also heavy, so she almost couldn't hold it; Zhou Yinhe therefore took it back, saying softly: "I'll hold it; you might not be able to."

Wen Ling gave a soft hum, her tone tinged with petulant complaint: "Then why did you buy such a big bunch?"

Zhou Yinhe didn't respond to her remark, simply saying: "Get in the car."

Wen Ling gave him a sideways glance, opened the passenger door; a smaller bouquet was placed on the seat, she felt delighted inside though she didn't show it, and she bent over to pick up that bouquet.

Zhou Yinhe had already placed the huge bouquet in the back seat; seeing Wen Ling lower her head to sniff the fragrance, he chuckled lightly: "Do you like it?"

"Barely tolerable."

Wen Ling was obviously putting on a tough front; Zhou Yinhe didn't continue teasing her, waited until she got in, then went around to the driver's seat and got in.

As the car pulled away, Wen Ling suddenly wondered and asked doubtfully: "When did you get your M Country driver's license?"

"Ah, I don't have one." Zhou Yinhe curved his lips: "I drive without a license."

Wen Ling paused, raised her hand to hit him, but he dodged and laughed: "I've had it all along."

He obtained the M Country driver's seat after being with Wen Ling, so that in the future they could self-drive when returning to M Country to tour the places where Wen Ling grew up.

He didn't elaborate; Wen Ling could guess as much, but she still felt doubtful—just not about the license.

Although she and Zhou Yinhe had been together for not a short time, previously she hadn't felt that they were very in sync; she could only roughly guess what he was thinking.

Wen Ling thought quietly, and the car had already stopped at the seaside.

Zhou Yinhe wasn't in a hurry to go to the restaurant with Wen Ling; he took her hand and they strolled slowly along the beach.
