Chapter 27: Entangled Waterweeds

~7 min read 1,384 words

She pressed her lips, at first it was a restrained smile, later it turned into a loud ha‑ha laugh.

The driver was infected by her laughter, also chuckling, he asked her: "Miss, what's wrong? You're so happy."

"Nothing, I just caught a fish." Wen Ling's eyes were all bright.

Zhou Yinhe returned to his own residence; he had been living on his own since adulthood, only occasionally returning to Feng Qi Yuan.

He silently finished washing, silently lay down on the bed, thinking that the slight buzz from alcohol would let him fall asleep quickly, but who knew that after staring at the ceiling for over an hour, sleepiness still hadn't come.

His mind was full of Wen Ling's kiss just now.

In a daze, he saw a figure push open the bedroom door and walk in.

He opened his mouth, the figure had already approached, a soft and alluring voice called out to him: "Baobao, do you miss me?"

To Zhou Yinhe, that voice was the deadliest temptation; his voice hoarse and low, he murmured: "Want."

"How much do you want?" she said, leaning in to bite his earlobe, whispering.

He wanted to reach out and grab her, but she lightly dodged; somewhat anxious, he said to her: "I want it so much, I want it to the point of going crazy."

Her response was to entwine like waterweed; Zhou Yinhe uncontrollably lifted his head, his breathing heavy, his Adam's apple rolling as he felt warmth, veins bulging all over his body.

The air was filled with damp stickiness.

As if standing in a summer downpour.

Breath exhaled beside his ear, he heard that soft and alluring voice.

"Baobao, great."

"Hiss—"

Zhou Yinhe was startled awake by that sensation; upon waking from the dream, the feeling had not yet faded, the surroundings were empty, aside from himself there was no person from the dream.

He felt a bit regretful, lifted the blanket and took a look; sure enough.

It was just a kiss, a kiss on the cheek, yet it made him have such a dream, and in the dream he said he wanted her so much he'd go crazy.

Zhou Yinhe cursed softly, got out of bed and went into the bathroom; who knew that in the bathroom, that figure floated in again.

Zhou Yinhe leaned somewhat roughly against the wall, let out a powerless sigh, stood under the shower, and reached out to face himself.

Wen Ling was unaware of Zhou Yinhe's ridiculous night; she only felt pleased with tonight's progress, lying in bed hugging Hehe while sleeping, she still smiled with narrowed eyes.

She said to Hehe: "Wait until your mom—I mean I catch your stubborn dad, then you'll scratch him, got it?"

Hehe flicked its tail, squinting eyes, half‑asleep.

Wen Ling also didn't care about its reaction; she chatted on by herself for a while, her voice growing softer, her eyelids heavier.

That night of the Luminous Feast, when Wen Ling arrived the banquet had not yet begun; she wore a simple white satin fishtail dress, her chestnut waist‑length hair curled into waves and draped behind her, graceful and unassuming.

Organizer Director Chen saw her come, smiled and stepped forward to greet her.

"Miss Wen, long time no see, how is Mr. Wen Lao?"

Wen Ling smiled gently, speaking softly: "Grandfather's health is fine; you've watched your newly released film many times, and he asked me to tell you to let him know when you have time to visit the Wen family."

Director Chen laughed heartily, nodding: "I'm going to M Country next month, then I'll visit the Wen family."

"Okay, I'll call grandfather tonight; he'll surely be happy." Wen Ling, out of the corner of her eye, saw a man nearby anxiously watching the two; she considerately told Director Chen: "Director Chen, someone over there is looking for you, go ahead and attend to them, I won't disturb you."

Director Chen glanced at the man, then had to leave; before leaving he politely said: "Miss Wen, if you need anything, just ask the staff."

Wen Ling saw him leave, her gaze turned to the staff member standing not far away; the staff member expressionlessly nodded at her; Wen Ling curled her lips, withdrew her gaze, found a seat, sat down, and boredly began to look at her phone, just waiting for the show to start.

Not far away came a noisy sound; Wen Ling curiously looked over, somewhat stunned.

Director Chen had already gone over, flattered and surprised, he said: "Fifth Young Master, why have you come?"

Zhou Yinhe did not answer, his gaze calm as he scanned the surroundings for a familiar silhouette; on the other hand, Ke Chengyu, who had come with him, walked up from behind, chuckling: "What, Director Chen doesn't welcome you?"

Seeing him, Director Chen was also quite surprised, then humbly said: "Young Master Ke also came, welcome, why wouldn't I welcome you? I'm just afraid of neglecting the two of you."

Wen Ling approached slowly; Zhou Yinhe also noticed her, his gaze burning as he looked at her; Ke Chengyu rolled his eyes at him, then proactively told Director Chen: "Director Chen, go ahead and busy yourself, don't worry about us two; we're just here to join the fun."

Director Chen was indeed busy; the banquet was about to start soon, many things needed his handling, but compared to those matters, attending to the two honored young masters was more important; hearing Ke Chengyu's words, he seized the opportunity to make an excuse and hurriedly left.

Ke Chengyu rolled his eyes again, turned and went to play by himself; he seriously reflected, feeling that since Wen Ling returned, the number of times they've rolled their eyes has increased greatly compared to the previous twenty or thirty years.

Wen Ling walked up to Zhou Yinhe, lifted her gaze to look at his hairstyle; his hair fell in fine strands across his forehead, appearing both obedient and alluring; most astonishing was that his hair had been dyed red; Wen Ling moved her fingers, softly saying: "You dyed your hair?"

Zhou Yinhe felt a bit uneasy, turned his head and casually said: "It's temporary; I'll wash it off when I go back tonight."

Wen Ling's eyes curved, she spoke softly: "I thought you were just placating me that day; I didn't expect you to really come."

"Ke Chengyu was coming, so I came along with him." Zhou Yinhe instinctively put on a tough front; Wen Ling didn't fully understand him but had an eighty percent grasp, she lowered her eyes to hide the smile of success.

Ke Chengyu, not far away, was about to roll his eyes again.

She stepped forward, neared Zhou Yinhe, and lightly tugged at the exquisite cufflink adorning his suit sleeve.

Zhou Yinhe lowered his gaze to see her fair hand pinched on his black suit, the black and white forming a stark contrast.

She seemed to really like tugging his cuff; Zhou Yinhe unconsciously thought, when summer comes and he wears short sleeves, where will Wen Ling tug him?

Wen Ling said in a coquettish voice: "Thank you for coming to keep me company."

"I'm not here to accompany you; I'm here to accompany Ke Chengyu." Zhou Yinhe didn't want to admit it; Wen Ling felt both love and hate for his stubbornness; at this moment her heart involuntarily softened, and she quietly murmured a term she had used for him three years ago.

"Thank you, Baobao."

In an instant Zhou Yinhe felt his head empty, his breath stopped, his whole body froze in place, unmoving; the alluring voice he heard last night floated up again in his ears.

"Baobao, great."

His neck quickly flushed red, the tips of his ears also reddened to the point of almost steaming; he took a step back, looking at Wen Ling with an indescribable expression.

Wen Ling looked back at him somewhat puzzled; three years ago she always called him Baobao, but back then he didn't have this reaction.

After all is said and done, even though Wen Ling and Zhou Yinhe have done everything together when they were together, the first thing after returning was to drag him into a hotel and do all those things; even now she somewhat doesn't understand.
