Chapter 32: You really have no heart

~7 min read 1,264 words

Wen Ling stubbed out the cigarette, lightly laughing: "How come you're here?"

Zhou Yinhe saw she showed no guilt, coldly said: "And you?"

He couldn't help wanting to question her; Wen Ling had said she disliked the smell of smoke, so even after they broke up, all those hard nights were just him trying.

At this moment, seeing Wen Ling openly before him, Zhou Yinhe felt himself burning with anger.

"Ah, I was playing at the quiet bar for a while, just came out." As if not feeling Zhou Yinhe's anger, Wen Ling calmly said: "What about you? Want to come play?"

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips, looking gloomy; Wen Ling saw this and shrugged. That day Zhou Yinhe left her without his anger fading, still not ready to keep pursuing her, she was about to get in the car to leave—just as she was about to open the car door, Zhou Yinhe grabbed her hand and shoved her against it.

Wen Ling had no patience left, her face gradually paling, she expressionlessly looked at Zhou Yinhe right before her.

Zhou Yinhe's anger was ignited; the hand gripping her wrist trembled slightly as he snapped: "All that pity and grievance you showed those days were lies to me, right?"

Wen Ling tilted her head, questioning: "Didn't you already know that?"

Even those of the Zhou family who were spoiled wouldn't easily believe anyone; moreover, Zhou Yinhe himself understood her, so how could he truly believe the pity and grievance she deliberately feigned?

She couldn't be bothered to keep up the act; her careful, soft-spoken behavior toward Zhou Yinhe those days now seemed like giving up completely.

Zhou Yinhe gradually calmed, released her hand and stepped back, gritting his teeth: "Wen Ling, you really have no heart."

Wen Ling moved her wrist, speaking lightly: "When I clung to you, you found me annoying; when I didn't, you thought I had no heart—I really don't know how to satisfy you."

"Do you need me to satisfy you? You do whatever you want with everything, including me—you were like that three years ago, and you still are."

"What happened three years ago is my fault; I want to explain the reason, but you won't listen." Wen Ling looked at him with curved brows and eyes: "I really miss you; that's the truth, no lie."

Zhou Yinhe lightly tugged at the corner of his mouth, merely thinking Wen Ling was again speaking sweetly.

Wen Ling felt a bit weary, softly saying: "I originally planned to look for you in a few days; I didn't expect to run into you today."

"Is it that you didn't expect to run into me, or that you didn't expect to catch me smoking?"

"Is smoking such a big deal?" Wen Ling sighed, knowing he wasn't nitpicking about the smoking but thought she had deceived him three years ago, so she patiently explained: "I really did dislike the smell of smoke before; I only started smoking within the past year, I didn't lie to you."

She looked at Zhou Yinhe, not knowing why, but somehow saw from his expression that he felt a bit wronged.

Wen Ling could only smile and step forward, coaxing: "From now on I won't lie to you, don't be angry?"

Zhou Yinhe glanced sideways, not looking at her; Wen Ling didn't want to keep arguing about these things with him, so she said: "I'm going home; are you going to hang out with Qi Zhan and the others?"

Zhou Yinhe gave a muffled hum; Wen Ling curled her lips: "How about I come find you tomorrow? Have lunch together."

Zhou Yinhe neither agreed nor refused; Wen Ling took it as consent, saw a few people walking over not far away, and said goodbye to Zhou Yinhe.

"They're here, I'm leaving now; tomorrow I'll go to your office to find you." Wen Ling got in the car, suddenly remembered something, turned back and said: "When you had red hair, you were especially, especially handsome."

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips, a bit embarrassed; Wen Ling assumed he was shy, waved at him, then told the driver to go.

Qi Zhan and Jiang Jibai walked up beside Zhou Yinhe, seeing him stare at the car already far off, Jiang Jibai frowned: "Was that just now Wen Ling?"

Zhou Yinhe hummed, turned and headed toward the quiet bar.

Qi Zhan complained: "Wasn't she supposed to go back to M Country? Why is she still in Sijiucheng?"

Zhou Yinhe seemed not to hear, walking with downcast eyes, unknown what he was thinking.

Qi Zhan wanted to continue speaking, but seeing Jiang Jibai give him a look, he had to stay silent.

Ruan MiaoMiao and Chu Yao were chatting softly; upon looking up, they saw the three heading toward the private room, greeted Chu Yao, and got up to walk toward the three.

"Senior, Young Master Jiang, Young Master Qi."

Zhou Yinhe glanced at her sideways, lazily withdrawing his gaze; Jiang Jibai knew what had happened at the Flowing Light Banquet, knew Zhou Yinhe disliked Ruan MiaoMiao, so he merely nodded at her.

Ruan MiaoMiao lightly bit her lip, aggrieved: "Senior, do you believe that day's recording? That's why you dislike me."

Only then did Zhou Yinhe speak up, offhandedly: "Ruan MiaoMiao, don't treat others as fools."

His gaze slightly cold, he spoke bluntly: "Back when I gave you resources, you knew full well; I overlooked your fabricating lies in front of the media out of respect for your cousin and the Qin Family, but you must know everything has its limits."

Zhou Yinhe usually speaks little with outsiders; being able to say this much now, Jiang Jibai and Qi Zhan were somewhat surprised.

These words were merely warnings; Jiang Jibai and Qi Zhan understood, and Ruan MiaoMiao understood too.

Her eyes slightly red, she explained: "Senior, I know no matter how I explain, you won't believe me, only trusting what my older female cousin says, but I really never said those words."

Zhou Yinhe couldn't be bothered to say another word to her.

Upon entering the private room, he slumped onto the sofa as if his bones had been removed; Jiang Jibai glanced around the room and asked: "Why must we come to the quiet bar? Can't we play at Nys?"

Zhou Yinhe lazily said: "It's quiet here; Nys is too noisy."

Jiang Jibai gave a cold snort, picked up the menu and glanced at it.

"I don't know who the owner is, but they have good taste." Qi Zhan said appreciatively.

Jiang Jibai passed the menu to Qi Zhan, raising his eyebrows: "The drink names aren't bad either."

Zhou Yinhe's mind still echoed Wen Ling's words, feeling torn.

Qi Zhan lightly kicked his leg, speechless: "You brought us here, and you're just spacing out."

Zhou Yinhe sat up displeased, glared at him; Jiang Jibai sat beside him and asked: "What are you thinking about, so absorbed?"

"Nothing." Zhou Yinhe didn't want to tell them.

Without him saying it, they also knew it was surely about Wen Ling again, so they rolled their eyes and couldn't be bothered with him.

Jiang Jibai suddenly thought of something, saying: "Wu Xuan was discharged today; didn't Wu Feng come to see you?"

Zhou Yinhe sneered: "No, he probably needs to think hard about how to explain seeing me to his son."

Jiang Jibai rested his forehead, thinking of Wu Feng's old face putting on a apologetic smile, and couldn't help laughing.

As expected, the next day Wu Feng brought Wu Xuan to the Zhou family's door.
