Chapter 57: Blocking Lu Zhaoye

~7 min read 1,314 words

Wen Ling raised her eyes, looking at the two suitcases Zhou Yinhe brought.

"You?"

She frowned, feeling doubtful.

"Don't worry, I'm not staying here, I just brought a few clothes for emergencies." Zhou Yinhe gave a soft smile, pushing the suitcases aside, walked to Wen Ling's side and half-squatted, holding her hand, seeing the bruise on the back of her hand from the injection.

"It's bruised, does it hurt?" He lowered his head and kissed it, lifted his eyelids, his dark pupils gazing steadily at her.

Wen Ling pressed her lips, shook her head, withdrew her hand, and softly said, "I need to go take medicine."

She went around Zhou Yinhe to get the medicine, Zhou Yinhe stayed silent for a moment, then slowly rose and looked at her back.

Watching her slowly swallow the medicine and drink a few sips of water, watching her silently walk up the stairs, an indescribable emotion filled his heart.

He quickened his steps to catch up, grabbed her hand, and said in a low voice, "Why are you so cold toward me?"

"Really?" Wen Ling blinked, explaining, "I just feel unwell, I want to sleep early."

His mood was visibly low, Wen Ling raised her hand to rub his cheek, softly coaxing him, "Aunt Zhou and the others live next door; normally it's just me and Hehe at home, I didn't react in time that you were here, I'll pay attention next time."

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips: "Then you'll do as you say."

Wen Ling lightly laughed: "Okay."

Zhou Yinhe consciously went to the guest room; after Wen Ling returned to her room, she did not deliberately lock the door.

She hadn't fully recovered from her cold, lay in bed and quickly fell asleep, while Zhou Yinhe sat on the sofa in the guest room until midnight.

The master bedroom door suddenly opened; he walked in lightly, Wen Ling was completely unaware, even not knowing when he got onto the bed and held her.

Before sleeping she didn't turn off the bedside lamp; despite her cold she wore a thin spaghetti-strap deep V nightgown, and in the yellowish light every slight movement caused the nightgown to ride up a bit.

Zhou Yinhe lowered his eyes, burying his nose in Wen Ling's embrace, smelling her faint fragrance, squinting his eyes, his face showing undisguised contentment.

Before sleeping she didn't turn off the bedside lamp; despite her cold she wore a thin spaghetti-strap deep V nightgown, and in the yellowish light every slight movement caused the nightgown to ride up a bit.

Lu Zhaoye.

Annoyed at being disturbed, his face grew colder upon seeing the caller ID; Zhou Yinhe directly hung up, just as he was thinking of blocking Lu Zhaoye's number, the caller rang again.

Wen Ling heard the strange sound in her sleep and lightly frowned; Zhou Yinhe turned off the phone screen, paused the vibration, and only after she fell deeper asleep did he carefully get up and leave the room.

After returning to the guest room, Lu Zhaoye also hadn't hung up; Zhou Yinhe stood in the dark looking at the phone screen, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.

He answered the call, the other party's voice was casual.

"You used to answer my midnight calls, why did you take so long today?"

Zhou Yinhe curled his lip, lowering his voice: "She's too tired, already asleep and can't be woken, Young Master Lu, if you have anything to say, tell me and I'll relay it."

After a moment of silence on the other end, a light laugh came: "That's fine, I'll call A Ling again when you're not around."

"Then you might be out of luck—I'll be with her all the time." Zhou Yinhe's tone seemed genuinely regretful toward Lu Zhaoye, emphasizing the words "all the time."

Lu Zhaoye responded calmly: "There's no rush between me and A Ling; since Fifth Young Master you're keeping her company, please take good care of her."

He didn't wait for Zhou Yinhe's reply and hung up directly.

Zhou Yinhe threw the phone onto the sofa, his icy gaze seeming to pierce it.

He stood there for a while, then stepped forward, bent to pick up the phone, deleted Lu Zhaoye's call log, and performed a block-and-delete service in one go.

Zhou Yinhe didn't mind how childish this act was, as long as he was happy.

He turned to go back to Wen Ling's room, intending to hug her while she slept soundly, but as soon as he turned, two beams of light shone directly on him.

Zhou Yinhe was already guilty, the fright made him step back two steps; hearing Hehe softly meow, he crept forward on cat's feet, hooking his pants to rise up for a hug.

"How did you get in?" Zhou Yinhe frowned, looking down at it; Hehe swayed its tail in the dark and meowed as a response.

Zhou Yinhe had no choice but to pick it up and send it back to the room, closing the door mercilessly on his way out to prevent it from running around at night.

He returned to Wen Ling's room; she looked at him with sleepy eyes, mumbled something, turned over and fell asleep again.

Zhou Yinhe stood at the doorway, his heart, which had been steeped in bitterness, now also went soft.

He got onto the bed and held Wen Ling again; because he was restraining himself from using too much force, his arms and fingertips trembled slightly, he let out a soft sigh, his hair brushing against her exposed snowy skin, then closed his eyes and slept.

Meanwhile, Lu Zhaoye far away in M Country held a wine glass with his fingertips and gripped the railing with his hand; jealousy made his fingers keep clenching, he who never showed his emotions outwardly now wore a grim face, his narrowed eyes unable to hide the hostility.

Just after he angrily threw the phone to the ground following the call, it suddenly rang; he took a few steps holding his wine glass and looked down at the cracked screen showing the incoming call.

It was a string of unknown numbers from Hua Guo.

Lu Zhaoye bent down to pick up and answer; the other party's voice was fawning and obsequious.

"Mr. Lu, it's me."

Lu Zhaoye raised an eyebrow and grunted.

The other party chuckled excitedly: "I managed to snap a photo of a woman entering the private residence of the Fifth Young Master of the Zhou family yesterday at dawn; though I can't see her face clearly, I can tell she's extremely beautiful."

Lu Zhaoye snorted lightly: "How did you take it?"

"Ah," the person sighed, saying: "Getting into Chen Yue Fu is really hard because it's not an ordinary villa area; I could only bribe the guards to slip in for a short while at night."

He claimed he was sent by a wealthy man's legitimate wife to spy on whether her husband was seeing someone else; the guards believed him without doubt, after all such private detectives are everywhere among the rich circles of Sijiucheng.

"That woman was dropped off at the villa of Young Master Zhou by a man and a woman, who then left; shortly after, Young Master Zhou returned."

"The security rules don't allow lingering, and when Young Master Zhou returned his bodyguards were patrolling the surroundings, so I could only crouch in the rain outside Chen Yue Fu all night; the car only came the next morning to pick up that woman."

"Mr. Lu, could you give me some extra labor fees? I risked my life to photograph the Zhou family; if they find out, you tell me, can I still stay in Hua Guo?"

Lu Zhaoye tugged at the corner of his mouth, calmly saying: "Yes."

"Send me the license plate number and the photo together."
