Chapter 85: Children Bickering

~7 min read 1,345 words

Lu Zhaoye's hotel was booked nearby, and Zhou Yinhe, holding back his anger, sent him to the hotel.

Wen Ling constantly paid attention to his mood, feeling his temper was surprisingly good today, that he could actually hold out until now.

Fortunately, Lu Zhaoye didn't continue to cause trouble, casually throwing out a goodbye before dragging his suitcase upstairs alone.

Wen Ling leaned sideways, looking at Zhou Yinhe, blinked, and softly said, "You're really good."

Zhou Yinhe pressed his lips, a hint of pride in his eyes; although he had been angered by Lu Zhaoye, he also declared Wen Ling's exclusive rights in front of Lu Zhaoye.

The two of them, in unison, hid from Wen Ling their private quarrel.

On the way home, Wen Ling received a call from Wen Zhuo.

Wen Zhuo's voice carried a smile as he softly said, "Sister, did you pick up Lu Zhaoye?"

When the red light came on, Zhou Yinhe reached out and took Wen Ling's hand, his black eyes flickering slightly; Wen Ling smiled at him, then told Wen Zhuo, "I got him."

"All right, sister, Lu Zhaoye is too pitiful; remember to take him out to play." Before Lu Zhaoye came to Sijiucheng, they had already agreed: first not to mention anything else, separating Wen Ling and Zhou Yinhe was the most important thing.

Wen Ling fell silent for a moment; Zhou Yinhe's face had already turned cold upon hearing Wen Zhuo's voice. Wen Zhuo seemed to guess that his words had made the atmosphere between the two strange, so he made an excuse and hung up.

Zhou Yinhe said lightly, "Your brother is really good to Lu Zhaoye."

"Not bad, they've known each other for several years." Wen Ling gave an embarrassed smile and reached out to tug at Zhou Yinhe's cheek.

Zhou Yinhe pressed the accelerator past the intersection, parked the car at the roadside, then seriously said, "You can take Lu Zhaoye out to play, but you must be with me."

Wen Ling leaned in with a curved lip, left a kiss on the corner of Zhou Yinhe's mouth, then said, "Okay."

Zhou Yinhe reached out to support the back of her head, deepening the kiss.

Is Lu Zhaoye some kind of child? Going out to play still needs someone to accompany him.

Zhou Yinhe thought that, but he wasn't stupid enough to say it out loud; after all, Lu Zhaoye was also Wen Ling's childhood friend, and saying too much would make him seem overly narrow-minded.

Although in Wen Ling's eyes, he wasn't that broad-minded either.

The two returned to Lang Po Wan, finished dinner, and Wen Ling, as promised, made good on her promise by properly compensating Zhou Yinhe.

Early the next morning, while they were still asleep, Lu Zhaoye called.

Wen Ling fumbled for the phone in a daze and answered; Lu Zhaoye said, "Come out to have breakfast with me, I'm at your villa's gate."

Wen Ling blinked in confusion, then snapped, "What's wrong with you? Getting up this early?"

Zhou Yinhe had already woken when the phone rang; hearing Lu Zhaoye's voice, he reached out to hug Wen Ling tightly, burying his face in her chest and biting hard at the front of her.

Wen Ling hissed in pain, enduring it without pushing him away; Zhou Yinhe then voluntarily eased his grip a bit, but did not release his mouth.

"Hurry up and come down, I'm hungry." Lu Zhaoye's tone wasn't good.

Wen Ling said, "Go next door and find Aunt Zhou, have Aunt Zhou call the chef to make you breakfast."

"No, I want to go out and eat, to have Sijiucheng's specialty; hurry up, or I'll call Grandfather Wen to tattle on you." Lu Zhaoye frowned and threatened, "I'll give you ten minutes."

Wen Ling sighed helplessly, then pushed away Zhou Yinhe, who was still biting her and refusing to let go, sat up straight, and said, "Wait."

She hung up the phone, and Zhou Yinhe's arms wrapped around her again, pulling her into his embrace, his hands not staying still.

"Do I really have to not go?" he said, unwilling to let go.

Wen Ling stroked his arm and coaxed, "You really can't not go; if you don't, he'll tell Grandfather Wen."

Zhou Yinhe snorted, rising while saying, "Tattletale."

Wen Ling amusedly pressed her lips, got out of bed to wash up in the bathroom; Zhou Yinhe followed behind her, standing beside her brushing his teeth and washing his face, eyelids drooping with a look of not being fully awake.

Wen Ling, toothbrush in mouth, mumbled, "Why don't you sleep a bit more? I'll come back after breakfast."

"No." Zhou Yinhe frowned, slapped his cheeks to force himself awake.

The two went out together; Lu Zhaoye leaned against his newly bought car, sunglasses perched on his head, revealing a handsome forehead.

Seeing that, Zhou Yinhe gave a cold snort.

Lu Zhaoye is of mixed heritage, his features naturally outstanding, especially his handsome eyes, which Zhou Yinhe finds most displeasing.

Oh, men—when jealous, they only become more narrow-minded.

Zhou Yinhe held Wen Ling's hand and wouldn't let go; Wen Ling glanced at him, but she also didn't insist on letting go.

She always unconsciously tolerated Zhou Yinhe.

Wen Ling sized up Lu Zhaoye's car; the license plate wasn't on yet, obviously a new car, and she somewhat amusedly asked, "When did you buy this car?"

Lu Zhaoye raised his chin and said lightly, "Yesterday afternoon."

He had jet lag; feeling bored at the hotel, he wandered around a 4S dealership, casually bought a sports sedan, and made do driving it.

Lu Zhaoye looked at Zhou Yinhe, smirking provocatively, "Brother-in-law, why don't you drive?"

Zhou Yinhe narrowed his eyes, adopting a sarcastic tone no less than Lu Zhaoye's: "No, Elder Brother-in-Law, you should drive your new car yourself; I'll just sit in the back with Lingling."

Lu Zhaoye tugged at the corner of his mouth: "Wen Ling gets carsick, let her sit in the passenger seat with me."

"Lingling doesn't get carsick." Zhou Yinhe gritted his teeth.

Lu Zhaoye looked at Wen Ling, with a hint of threat in his tone, asking, "Do you get carsick?"

Wen Ling really felt they were just like children bickering; being with them made her feel especially mature, and she resignedly said, "If you keep this up, I won't go; go ahead and tattle."

Lu Zhaoye gave a cold snort, then directly tossed the keys to Zhou Yinhe, saying, "You drive; I didn't sleep well last night, can't drive fatigued, and besides, you're a Sijiucheng local, you know where the breakfast is more authentic."

Zhou Yinhe took the keys, held Wen Ling's hand to help her into the passenger seat, but Lu Zhaoye pulled his old trick again, getting in himself just before Wen Ling was about to get in.

"What are you doing again?" Zhou Yinhe frowned tightly.

Lu Zhaoye answered with a smile that didn't reach his eyes: "I get carsick; I just said that yesterday, brother-in-law, don't you remember?"

He was just trying to make Zhou Yinhe furious, wanting to see how long this kid could keep up the act.

Zhou Yinhe adjusted his breathing, turned to look at the speechless Wen Ling, and shot her a resentful, angry glance.

Wen Ling soothingly smiled at him, actually feeling this scene was incredibly familiar; she lowered her eyes, thought for a moment, then recalled that this had happened yesterday.

"Be good, let's go get breakfast first." Wen Ling leaned forward and stroked Zhou Yinhe's hair.

Zhou Yinhe grunted in response, started the car and pulled away, finally parking in a spot outside a nearby alley.

Besides a few small shops, the alley also hid a breakfast stall that had been open for several decades at its end; the owner here is the son of the previous owner. Not a few locals from Sijiucheng come to eat, and Zhou Yinhe, when he came before, also had some disdain, but after eating, if he got up early he would occasionally come.
