Chapter 90: This Cat Is Super Protective of Its Master

~7 min read 1,324 words

Wen Ling saw Zhou Zhaoning off, then Aunt Zhou and the chef went to the supermarket together, and Wen Ling went upstairs alone.

She sat on the edge of the bed and coaxed, "Why is your attitude toward Sister Zhaoning so bad?"

She had no blood-related siblings, and her cousins weren't close either; she only felt it was really nice to have such a sister caring for her, and she didn't quite understand why Zhou Yinhe would have such an attitude.

"She's just here to laugh at me; why should I treat her well?"

"He's been like that since childhood—when not provoked he's still willing to give a pleasant face, but once provoked he'll turn cold toward anyone just the same."

Wen Ling flicked his back of the head with a finger and said, "Lie still; if it really hurts, tell me."

"Where are you going? Are you going to look for Lu Zhaoye?" Zhou Yinhe blinked, tightened his grip on her hand, and refused to let go.

Wen Ling said helplessly, "I'm not going anywhere, and I'm not going to look for Lu Zhaoye—I'll just stay here and guard you."

Only then did Zhou Yinhe relax his grip, his eyes fixed on Wen Ling without moving; seeing her about to take Hehe out, he hurriedly asked, "What are you doing?"

"I heard Aunt Zhou is back, so I'm going to see what they're preparing for lunch."

"Then why are you taking Hehe with you?" Zhou Yinhe's eyes were full of suspicion.

Wen Ling exhaled: "I'm afraid he'll jump onto your waist and aggravate your injury."

Zhou Yinhe pursed his lips: "All right."

Wen Ling carried Hehe downstairs; Aunt Zhou and the chef were both holding quite a few things. Seeing her, Aunt Zhou said, "I went to the supermarket and bought some fresh bones for the chef to stew later for the Fifth Young Master—I don't know if it'll help, but it's at least nutritious."

Wen Ling nodded, followed Aunt Zhou into the kitchen, and Aunt Zhou juiced two glasses of fruit juice for them.

Just as she was about to carry it upstairs, she heard the doorbell ring; she glanced over puzzledly, saw Aunt Zhou come out of the kitchen, and said, "You're busy—I'll answer the door."

Aunt Zhou went back to the kitchen, Wen Ling went out of the villa alone, and there stood three men at the entrance.

Ke Chengyu saw her, waved, and said with a smile, "We came to see Xiao Wu and ask Zhou Zhaoning for the address."

Jiang Jibai also smiled; only Qi Zhan still looked as if Wen Ling owed him money.

Wen Ling glanced back at the location of her room upstairs, then had no choice but to step forward and open the door.

They were utterly unmannerly, entering the villa and heading straight for the upstairs; the huge Hehe stood on the stairs, baring its teeth and growling at them, so the three had to stop and wait for Wen Ling.

Wen Ling gestured to Aunt Zhou, who had poked her head out, not to worry, walked up the stairs, scooped Hehe into her arms, and said, "Let's go."

She pursed her lips, hesitated a moment, then suggested, "Could you avoid provoking him?"

Jiang Jibai raised an eyebrow and casually replied, "Sure, don't worry."

Wen Ling couldn't really relax, but there was nothing she could do; now that they'd come, could she still drive them away? Perhaps she could have before, but after learning that Zhou Yinhe's depression had been eased by these people and his family pulling him back, she couldn't act tough.

Zhou Yinhe narrowed his eyes, lying there watching the movie playing on the mobile TV Wen Ling had dragged over, feeling half-asleep; hearing a few footsteps and the door opening, he then turned his gaze toward the doorway.

His face changed in an instant, turning cold, and he demanded, "What are you here for?"

Ke Chengyu instinctively wanted to tease him, but Jiang Jibai poked his arm, reminding him that Wen Ling was still there, so he could only smile and greet, "Xiao Wu, the brothers came out of concern to check on you—how are you?"

Zhou Yinhe frowned, thinking Ke Chengyu was a bit off, and replied awkwardly, "Nothing's wrong."

"Oh, that's good—scared the brothers to death." Ke Chengyu patted his chest, his feigned concern making Zhou Yinhe feel nauseated, as if he wanted to vomit in his face.

"Can't you just act normal?" He couldn't hold back and directly called him out.

Ke Chengyu tugged at the corner of his mouth, really wanting to mock him, but found that neither coaxing nor mocking was allowed.

Seeing all four men present, Wen Ling felt a bit embarrassed, so she went downstairs to check on Aunt Zhou and the others making lunch, and asked them to make a little extra.

Once she left, the three finally launched into a passionate discussion, talking over each other, which made Zhou Yinhe's face darken to the point of almost dripping water.

"Xiao Wu, not going to ruin your future happy life, huh?" Jiang Jibai emphasized the "fortune" character in happiness.

Before Zhou Yinhe could speak, Qi Zhan interjected, "How could you ask that? Is our Xiao Wu really that fragile?"

Seeming to speak up for him but actually still mocking, Zhou Yinhe opened his mouth, but before he could say anything, Ke Chengyu continued, "Ah, hopefully—otherwise it'd be a shame later."

Zhou Yinhe gritted his teeth and squeezed out a few words from between his teeth: "What a shame?"

"What a shame—can't enjoy a happy life anymore, what else could it be?" Jiang Jibai laughed loudly and reached out to touch Zhou Yinhe's waist.

Hehe, who had been curled up on the inner side of the bed, saw Jiang Jibai reach out, sprang up, fur bristling, growling a warning with a low call.

Jiang Jibai was startled by it—mainly because its build was truly huge; if it really came up to attack, it would inevitably leave him a few scars.

"How is this cat so protective of its master?" Qi Zhan hissed and also took a step back.

"He got scratched by a cat when he was young, and to this day he's afraid of cats."

Zhou Yinhe, feeling pleased, patted Hehe's head; Hehe obediently lay beside him, though its eyes stayed fixed on the three, and its tail slammed heavily onto the bed, making a crackling sound.

The three indeed didn't move forward—two sat on the sofa, one leaned against a low cabinet, speaking from a distance.

"Speaking seriously, when will it get better?" Ke Chengyu crossed his arms, frowned, and asked, "Are you sure there won't be any aftereffects?"

"Just lie still for a few days and it'll be fine—just a dislocation, no aftereffects." They were serious, so Zhou Yinhe became serious too; glancing at the doorway, he said softly, "You help me keep an eye on Lu Zhaoye—don't let him take advantage when I'm immobile to try to poach my corner."

Qi Zhan rested his finger on his forehead and said lightly, "He's here precisely to poach your corner; even if you weren't injured, he'd still do the same."

"It's not you—" Zhou Yinhe began to say, starting to lift his arm, but Jiang Jibai hurriedly interjected, "Just kidding, just kidding—we'll watch him for you; besides, you're staying at Wen Ling's place, so where would he go to dig?"

"Anyway, just keep watch—if he suddenly shows up in Sijiucheng, I feel it's not that simple." Zhou Yinhe's eyes sank dark as ink, his brows tightly knit, and the other three's expressions gradually grew grave.

"Got it." Jiang Jibai had just nodded in agreement when Wen Ling returned.

The four quickly composed their expressions, smiling at Wen Ling; she felt something was odd but couldn't pinpoint what.

"Why don't you stay for lunch here? I had the chef make extra."
