Chapter 131: Wrap-up
"Director Ren, this car of yours is quite expensive, right? I heard people online say that BMWs cost several hundred thousand."
Dan Yuyue was a chatterbox, rambling on incessantly throughout the journey, yet apart from Xu Heng and Ren Man who could respond to her a few times, the others in the car didn't want to talk to her.
"This is a birthday gift my dad bought for me. I'm not clear on the exact price, but it was probably around seven or eight hundred thousand including taxes and accessories." Ren Man understatedly flexed.
In reality, she was being quite conservative; a top-trim 2007 BMW 7 Series would cost at least around 1.5 million.
But for Dan Yuyue, seven or eight hundred thousand was already an unattainable price. She exclaimed in admiration while stroking the leather seats inside the BMW: "Director Ren, since your family is so rich, why bother being a director? Wouldn't just lying around doing nothing be enough to live a carefree life?"
Ren Man replied indifferently: "Personal hobby."
"You think everyone is like you, thinking about getting something for nothing and eating away their inheritance? The senior has entrepreneurial ambitions and ideals; she doesn't want to be that kind of incapable rich second generation," Ying Ziyun interjected.
Upon hearing this, Dan Yuyue muttered to herself: if you have money, it's called a personal hobby or entrepreneurial ambition; people without money don't even have the capital to start a business.
No matter how nicely it's put, it ultimately comes down to people having different births and a gap in social class.
……
The crew dinner ended after ten o'clock in the evening.
During the meal, Cheng Huaiyu kept trying to get close to Dan Yuyue. Later, when Dan Yuyue got annoyed, she ran to sit next to Xu Heng. And who was on Xu Heng's other side? That was the crew's big director, Ren Man! She was also the head of the crew.
Seeing her sitting there like a great Buddha, Cheng Huaiyu didn't dare to get close, so he found a peripheral spot and huddled with a group of people from the logistics team.
At the dinner table, everyone expressed great anticipation and optimism for the film's future. In any case, no one would be stupid enough to say the opposite in such a situation, so they just flattered Xu Heng and Ren Man as much as possible.
As for whether the film succeeded or not, it had nothing to do with them; after all, even if the film succeeded, they wouldn't get a share of the profits.
Fame was even more out of the question. This was a female-led film, with almost seventy percent of the scenes focused on the lead actress. Plus, the male lead took up another twenty percent. If they, the supporting actors, could get a few minutes of screen time, it would already be something to celebrate.
Therefore, even if the film succeeded, the only ones who could become famous would be the lead actress or the lead actor.
Once everyone had finished flattering Ren Man and Xu Heng, they started flattering Liu Yiyan and Ying Ziyun.
Discerning people could see that Xu Heng's relationship with these two women was not shallow. If they could connect with them, it would be equivalent to indirectly connecting with Xu Heng.
So, flatter away; if they were flattered into a good mood, would there be any worry about not being able to be friends with Xu Heng?
For a time, all sorts of praises were endless.
Ying Ziyun and a few other college students who hadn't seen much of the world didn't really like this kind of drinking culture; it felt too hypocritical.
She suggested going back with her roommate first, as the dormitory closed early at night.
When Cheng Huaiyu heard this from the side, he thought this was great—it gave him a free opportunity to curry favor.
He said it definitely wasn't safe for the two of you girls to go back late at night, let me take you.
Seeing Cheng Huaiyu smiling like an idiot and remembering his cheating scandal, Ying Ziyun refused expressionlessly: "A-Heng will take us back."
Xu Heng, who had been inexplicably called out, was full of question marks, thinking to himself: when did I say I was going to take you back?
However, at this moment, Ren Man said that since she had just had some Wine and couldn't drive back, she would let Xu Heng, who hadn't been drinking, drive them back. The car would be left with Xu Heng for the time being and returned tomorrow.
With Ren Man having spoken, Xu Heng felt it was hard to refuse. He helplessly took the car keys and gestured for the girls to follow him.
Ying Ziyun, Dan Yuyue, and Liu Yiyan—three young girls in total.
Cheng Huaiyu did the math and felt there was still room in the car for him, so he hurriedly followed and smiled: "Old Xu, give me a ride!"
"Sure."
"No."
The former was said by Xu Heng, the latter by Dan Yuyue.
Xu Heng frowned.
Cheng Huaiyu asked uncomprehendingly: "Why? I'm from the same school as you guys, and I'm still Old Xu's roommate. Giving me a lift shouldn't be a delay, right?"
"You smell terrible. You were just drinking with those men from the crew, and you reek of Wine. I'm allergic to alcohol, don't get too close to me."
Cheng Huaiyu said speechlessly: "You've had drinks with us before..."
"I wasn't allergic before, but I am now, okay?" Dan Yuyue said with a cold face.
It looked like she was determined to stay away from Cheng Huaiyu and didn't want to waste a single extra word on him.
Seeing this, Xu Heng could only pull Cheng Huaiyu aside and whisper in his ear: "You should take a taxi back. You know Dan Yuyue's personality; if you force your way into the car, who knows what kind of scene she'll cause."
After saying this, he even took out twenty yuan and shoved it into his hand.
"Old Xu... you're the one who treats me best." While moved, Cheng Huaiyu nodded and said, "I'll never drink again when I go out next time."
Xu Heng thought speechlessly.
One time like this was enough for him to deal with; how could there be a next time?
And you don't really think Dan Yuyue wants to avoid you just because you were drinking, do you?
But how could he say that out loud?
He sighed, patted Cheng Huaiyu heavily on the shoulder, and said no more.
The next day, Xu Heng and Liu Yiyan came out of a hotel. Xu Heng drove her to the filming location and then returned the car keys to Ren Man.
The three-month filming schedule proceeded in an orderly manner.
The filming progress on Saturday and Sunday was faster than usual because it was easier to find extras on the roadside.
Coupled with the slight improvement in Xu Heng's acting, about half of Da Laowang's scenes were filmed quickly.
On the other side, Dan Yuyue and Sheng Bo also successfully wrapped up their filming.
As for why they wrapped up only a few days after joining the crew, it was because the characters they played only had a few shots and one or two lines of dialogue in total.
The longest scene was probably the employee dinner, where all of Huang Xiaoxian's colleagues appeared, yet the duration was less than four minutes; on average, several supporting actors didn't even have lines.
Among them, to avoid the problem of awkward acting, Ren Man tried her best to keep the camera from giving them head-on shots, using only side profiles instead.
After filming this scene, there were no more scenes for the extras played by Dan Yuyue and the others, so they naturally entered the wrap-up phase.
On the day they left the crew, Dan Yuyue hugged Xu Heng and wailed loudly.
Xu Heng said speechlessly: "Damn it, I'm not buried, what the hell are you crying for?"
Dan Yuyue said, "I can't bear to leave you guys!" After saying that, she hugged Ren Man and cried again, saying, "I am Director Ren's person in life, and I will be Director Ren's soul in death. If Director Ren is ever short of actors for any future films, you must remember me, Dan Yuyue."
Ren Man stroked her head to comfort her: "Don't worry, if there's ever a role where you can just lie down and earn money, I'll definitely find you."
"Are there really roles like that?"
"There are," Ren Man smiled faintly, "corpses."
