Chapter 30: The Prime of Youth

~8 min read 1,491 words

"Senior, I don't know where the counselor's office is. Could you show me the way?"

"Are you here at Jin Da alone, junior?" Xu Heng said. "If your parents came with you, you could take the elders around a bit; the scenery at Jin Da is quite nice."

"I came alone." Li Shanshan's goal was very clear; she had her sights set on this piece of prime meat, Xu Heng.

Whether a first boyfriend in college has money isn't important, but he must be handsome!

Xu Heng clearly met Li Shanshan's current criteria for a mate.

Yet Xu Heng put his sunglasses back on and said indifferently, "I'm in charge here, and I have to leave. These two don't know the procedure, so I'll have my roommate take you."

After saying this, he kicked Zhao Gaoyang under the table.

Although Zhao Gaoyang lacked emotional intelligence, he was, after all, a top student who had gotten into Jin Da, so his IQ was certainly fine. He understood instantly, stood up, picked up Li Shanshan's suitcase, and said with a chuckle, "This way, junior, I'll take you."

Li Shanshan's mouth twitched.

This was the first time in all her years of being sensible that she had encountered an opponent.

Sure enough, university is a small society; the level of these boys is not something those innocent little virgins in high school could compare to.

Although she was a bit dissatisfied inside, as a high-level "tea sister," she still maintained a spring-breeze-like smile on her face: "Okay, then I'll be going now, senior. Let's keep in touch if anything comes up."

Watching Li Shanshan walk away, Cheng Huaiyu teased Xu Heng with a laugh.

"Not bad, Old Xu. You've already gotten a little junior's contact info before the morning is even over."

Although he was a little disappointed that the junior hadn't taken a fancy to him, this junior wasn't exactly a great beauty either—she was far worse than Dan Yuyue—so after a brief disappointment, he felt more like teasing Xu Heng.

Xu Heng hadn't been single for long after his breakup last semester before his romantic luck arrived. If he could become a couple with this junior, then Cheng Huaiyu would be the one in the dorm with the best-looking girlfriend.

Men have a bit of a competitive streak, and Cheng Huaiyu had always considered himself the backbone of the dorm; it was only natural for him to be superior to his roommates in every aspect.

Xu Heng shook his head slightly.

He really had no interest in Li Shanshan; otherwise, he wouldn't have made up an excuse to decline just now.

Li Shanshan's affair didn't have much impact on them, and other parents and students immediately took her place.

Xu Heng's efficiency in handling things was high, much sharper than those next to him who kept asking this and that.

Most parents with a bit of sense were willing to come to Xu Heng's line.

The number of freshmen in the School of Liberal Arts was primarily female. Looking over, it was a sea of flowers; many introverted and shy juniors stammered as they asked Xu Heng for his QQ number or phone number, or at the very least, they would ask Cheng Huaiyu.

In just the morning alone, the two of them had received seven or eight phone numbers and QQ numbers, so busy they couldn't even free up their hands.

This made the receptionists from the science and engineering schools nearby very envious. Their entire school didn't even have enough freshman girls to count on one hand; they couldn't compare to Xu Heng and the others at all.

Some sophomores who still had fantasies about picking up freshman girls gritted their teeth when they saw this scene.

Their Dao heart collapsed; this freshman reception, it's not worth doing!

They worked from eight in the morning until twelve noon. At this hour, freshmen were still arriving one after another to report. Since Xu Heng and the other two had so many freshmen, they had no choice but to take turns in shifts to find time to eat.

The freshman reporting period is generally two to three days. Most parents set off with their children in the morning and arrive by noon, so there were actually quite a few fewer people in the afternoon.

During this time, Cheng Huaiyu met an enthusiastic junior who pestered him to show her the way.

Cheng Huaiyu had never encountered such an enthusiastic and proactive girl. He scratched his head and laughed foolishly, saying no problem, as he was very familiar with Jin Da.

Dan Yuyue's personality was usually quite carefree, but she was still far behind such an enthusiastic little junior. Most of the time, she would make Cheng Huaiyu do this or that for her, or ask him to buy her gifts and things; it was hard to even get her out for a meal.

When Dan Yuyue was in a good mood, it was fine, but if she encountered something that made her unhappy, she could go half a day without replying to Cheng Huaiyu's messages.

The smart Cheng Huaiyu thought this was Dan Yuyue keeping him on a leash. Back in freshman year, he had heard others say her conduct was unrefined and that she had been involved with several men. At the time, Cheng Huaiyu didn't believe it, but now that he was truly dating Dan Yuyue, he began to doubt whether his previous understanding had been biased.

Dan Yuyue's personality was indeed very much like those girls who keep "spare tires," and he was that spare tire being kept.

Once a seed of thought is planted in the heart, there will be a day when it blossoms and bears fruit.

Nowadays, Cheng Huaiyu hadn't yet expressed his dissatisfaction with Dan Yuyue, but he had gradually started to become "wild."

He thought, if you, Dan Yuyue, can keep so many spare tires, why can't I, Cheng Huaiyu? I, Cheng Huaiyu, am not ugly, and my family isn't poor; why should I be kept on a leash by you alone? So, chatting enthusiastically or even flirting with these lower-year juniors gave Cheng Huaiyu no psychological burden at all.

Seeing this, Xu Heng sighed inwardly; he knew it.

With Cheng Huaiyu's personality, even without Li Shanshan, there would be a Wang Shanshan, a Sun Shanshan... names are just codes; there is more than one "tea sister."

Dan Yuyue's personality might be a bit money-grubbing, but at least it was clear she was genuinely dating Cheng Huaiyu, whereas those "pure little juniors" who asked strangers for contact info right off the bat were not so pure.

"Damn, another little sister is about to be ruined by Cheng Ge," Zhao Gaoyang said enviously.

Xu Heng shook his head: "It's not certain who is ruining whom."

"What do you mean? Can a man be at a disadvantage in a relationship?"

Xu Heng looked up at Zhao Gaoyang; his dark face was full of confusion.

Unlike Cheng Huaiyu and Xu Heng's conditions, Zhao Gaoyang was dark-skinned, his features didn't match well, and he was scrawny. Girls rarely chose his type as a boyfriend, just as most boys who think they are handsome rarely go to be tank drivers.

Earlier, Xu Heng had asked Zhao Gaoyang to take Li Shanshan to the counselor's office, but halfway there, Li Shanshan said she had figured out the direction and could find the way herself, telling Zhao Gaoyang to go back and get busy.

Zhao Gaoyang, the "licker" who had never been pursued by a woman, naturally didn't know how skilled those tea sisters were at their "tea arts."

Fan Xi was a good person, but if it were a tea sister like Li Shanshan, and she happened to have designs on Zhao Gaoyang's pockets, then Zhao Gaoyang would be helping her count the money after being played.

He probably thought that being on the receiving end of a tea sister's tea arts was a great blessing from the heavens.

Even if he told him, he wouldn't understand, so Xu Heng simply stopped talking.

Just then, someone came to report. It was a girl wearing a light green long-sleeved shirt, wearing glasses, with a Two-dimensional charm hanging on her backpack, and the suitcase also had a pattern of some anime character. She held her hands crossed in front of her, looking a bit dazed, though those fair and tender long legs under her denim shorts were quite dazzling.

"Hello, senior. May I ask if this is the reporting office for the School of Liberal Arts?"

"This isn't the place for reporting. Fill out your information and go report to your class counselor." Zhao Gaoyang wasn't interested in this kind of dull-looking girl.

Xu Heng, however, took a few extra looks at the girl, opened a bottle of mineral water, took a sip, and asked, "What is your name, classmate?"

"Jiang Mengyuan."
