Chapter 18: He had protected her

~7 min read 1,341 words

Gu Jiu Ling looked at Emperor Longqing and said: "Your Majesty, if the Prince of Bei Di dies in Southern Qi, it will be a great disaster; please allow me to try!"

Emperor Longqing looked at Gu Jiu Ling before him, his eyes wavering.

Gu Jiu Ling knelt down and kowtowed heavily, saying: "Your Majesty! If we delay any longer, the Prince of Bei Di may truly be beyond saving."

Princess Changping on the side sneered: "Gu Jiu Ling, even the imperial physicians of the Imperial Medical Institute are helpless; do you think you're more capable than them?"

Gu Jiu Ling simply couldn't stand that meddlesome woman; because she found her displeasing, she kept stirring up trouble at this critical moment.

She coldly looked at her and said: "Princess Changping, if you keep blocking me, are you trying to go marry into Bei Di?"

"You..." Princess Changping's face changed instantly.

"Enough!" Emperor Longqing coldly looked at Gu Jiu Ling: "Go check on the hostage; if anything happens... I will take your life!"

Gu Jiu Ling responded, rose, and walked toward Tuo Ba Yu.

Suddenly Xiao Yin grabbed her wrist, pinching it until it ached.

Xiao Yin whispered: "If you can't cure him, be sharp and follow me east!"

Gu Jiu Ling blinked slightly, nodded, broke free of Xiao Yin's hand, and walked up to Tuo Ba Yu.

She bent over to look at Tuo Ba Yu, lifted his sleeve to examine; at this moment she had in hand a needle of epinephrine taken from her space, and, with her back to the several imperial physicians behind her, injected it into Tuo Ba Yu's body.

She then felt Tuo Ba Yu's pulse, calming her thoughts.

She then injected dopamine and a hemostatic agent.

"Go find my maid and bring my medicine box, the larger one."

"Take the hostage prince into the tent! Quick!"

Several imperial physicians of the Imperial Medical Institute saw that Tuo Ba Yu showed signs of certain death, thought he could not possibly survive, but now felt his complexion had a hint of vitality, and miraculously his blood seemed to have stopped considerably.

Now the old doctors of the Imperial Medical Institute were dumbfounded, all crowding around Gu Jiu Ling.

Immediately they cleared a nearby tent and lifted Tuo Ba Yu inside.

The imperial physicians naturally wanted to follow in, but Gu Jiu Ling couldn't let them come in, as she would soon need to perform surgery and also deal with these people.

"Get out!" Gu Jiu Ling's face sank.

The leading Director Dong coldly smiled: "Princess Consort, I am the Director of the Imperial Medical Institute, naturally..."

"Get lost!" Gu Jiu Ling coldly stared at him; this man was from the Empress Dowager's side, and she would not let him in first.

Director Dong's face also darkened; just as he was about to speak, something hard pressed against the back of his head.

He hastily turned his head and saw Xiao Yin gripping an arrow in his hand; his face instantly turned deathly pale.

"Prince... Prince..."

"My prince consort told you to get lost! Are you deaf?" Xiao Yin's eyes held frost, killing intent surging.

Director Dong's forehead instantly beaded with cold sweat; meeting Xiao Yin's eyes, he was terrified.

This person is a killer, his hands stained with countless lives, too many to count.

Xiao Yin, with his bow on his back, slowly sat at the tent's entrance, like a door guardian.

No one around dared to step even half a pace closer, nor dare to advance further.

Gu Jiu Ling breathed a sigh of relief; not long after, Jiu Yue struggled over carrying a wooden bamboo box almost half her height.

She was completely dazed; the prince and princess consort had gone to the Imperial Villa to hunt, when suddenly palace people ordered her to bring the princess consort's medicine box to the hunting grounds, and it had to be the larger one.

She had no idea what medicine box the princess consort had, so she just brought over an empty box, anyway she had heard the word "box".

When Jiu Yue carried the box into the tent, Gu Jiu Ling really wanted to fiercely kiss this maid; it was awesome.

She just needed an empty box to divert attention; this maid was perfect for that.

"Jiu Yue, after you set the box down, come help!"

"Yes!" Jiu Yue hurried over to Gu Jiu Ling's side, then stood there stunned.

But she saw the young man before the princess consort, his clothes stripped off by the princess consort, various tubes inserted into his body, and a metal lump placed on his head that kept beeping.

She had never seen such a thing before and was utterly frightened; Gu Jiu Ling didn't have time to explain to her, and anyway couldn't explain it clearly.

Fortunately, the ventilator, blood pressure monitor, oxygen absorber and such could be taken from her space; the key is they are both chargeable and plug-in usable, so they can work even without a power source.

At worst, after use she could put them back into her space to recharge; at this moment she handed some trays and such to Jiu Yue.

She grabbed Jiu Yue's hand, first helped her disinfect, then sprayed disinfectant all over Jiu Yue's body.

"Jiu Yue, listen, this matter is very important."

Gu Jiu Ling stared steadily at Jiu Yue: "Whether we master and servant can leave this place alive hinges on this one battle; you hold the tray and stand opposite me, I'll ask for what I need and you'll give it."

"Have you seen clearly? I've arranged these instruments from large to small in order; when the time comes I'll call them in sequence, you just hand them to me."

The tent was filled with the smell of blood; Jiu Yue had been terrified by the scene before her eyes, but she gritted her teeth and nodded.

Gu Jiu Ling raised her hand to grab the arrow's tail, while her other hand gripped a scalpel and stabbed toward Tuo Ba Yu's chest.

Even though Jiu Yue was bold, she also let out a startled cry.

Outside, the people instantly exploded: "What's happening?"

"What on earth is Gu Jiu Ling doing?"

"Let's go in and take a look!"

Xiao Yin slowly raised his hand, drew the bow, and aimed at the leading few imperial physicians who wanted to come in.

Those people then all retreated back.

Director Dong said: "Your Prince, we too are considering your interests; if the princess consort kills the Prince of Bei Di, wouldn't that be trouble? We would like to help from the side."

"Get lost!" Xiao Yin's thin lips parted.

Xiao Wei stepped forward: "Imperial Uncle! This is your fault; the princess consort is a proper lady..."

"Get lost!" Xiao Yin tightened his bow.

"Imperial Uncle!" The Crown Prince also felt Gu Jiu Ling was going mad inside.

Get lost!

Yin'er! Empress Dowager Ning'an walked over.

You also get lost! Xiao Yin's voice was grimly cold.

Empress Dowager Ning'an instantly trembled with anger.

The sky darkened; the wind lantern outside the tent swayed back and forth in the evening breeze, its yellowish light shining on his sharp-featured handsome face, casting a shifting layer of light and shadow that swayed to and fro.

He simply drew his bow, guarding the peace behind him, like an invincible door god, standing steadfast.

He didn't know why he trusted that woman; she said it would work, so it surely would.

She—Xiao Yin had her protected!

Not long after, Gu Jiu Ling had Jiu Yue come out to fetch the lamp and mirror and bring them in, after which there was another long wait.

The mountain wind was originally cold, but this time everyone felt bewitched, all waiting here, wanting to see whether the Princess Consort of Rui truly had the power to bring the dead back to life.

Another hour passed, suddenly the tent flap was lifted, and a deathly pale Gu Jiu Ling stumbled out.
