Chapter 17: You can understand me, right?
Zhou Yue came to the living room and saw at a glance the sumptuous meal spread out on the dining table, more than half of which consisted of braised dishes, such as pig head meat, spiced beef, braised lamb hooves, crayfish...
Besides these, there were fruits like watermelon, cherry tomatoes, cherries, and Shine Muscat grapes, meticulously arranged on a large fruit platter. Judging by the quality of those fruits, they were all premium, and several of them were Zhou Yue's favorites.
However, none of this mattered; what Zhou Yue found most glaring was that bottle of Flying Fairy Moutai that had already been opened.
A bottle of Flying Fairy costs at least 2,500, which is equivalent to half a month of her salary.
If she were to buy cosmetics for herself, it would at least be enough for an Estée Lauder set.
Seeing this scene, Zhou Yue immediately felt extremely unbalanced!
On what grounds?
In terms of conditions, where was she not better than Lin Dazhi?
Even she had never been willing to buy such expensive things for herself; on what grounds was Lin Dazhi drinking such expensive liquor?
Was he worthy?
Lin Dazhi saw Zhou Yue rushing out of the bedroom, looking at him with unkind eyes, but he ignored her entirely, and went on to pick up his wine glass and take a delightful sip.
Not to mention, this Flying Fairy Moutai really was better than the Yellow Cap Fenjiu he usually drank; it was fragrant and smooth upon entering the mouth—it lived up to its reputation as a high-end white spirit.
"Lin Dazhi, you're something else. You only divorced me this morning, and by tonight you're already letting yourself go? You've put on a watch worth over three million, and you're drinking Moutai. You're living quite the life, aren't you?" Zhou Yue said with her arms crossed, her tone mocking.
Lin Dazhi glanced at her, not the least bit angry, and said with a chuckle: "Zhou Yue, you're right about that. In the past, I was always controlled by you; everything I did was wrong, even breathing was a mistake. At first, I really thought I was the one who was no good, full of flaws. Now that I've divorced you, I've realized that I'm not entirely useless after all. At the very least, in the eyes of your best friend Bai Weiwei, I still have merits, right, little beauty?"
As Lin Dazhi spoke, he pinched Bai Weiwei's tender little cheek. After pinching it, he felt it wasn't enough, so he simply pulled her into his arms, letting her sit on his lap and enjoying the soft, fragrant warmth.
Seeing this scene, Zhou Yue was instantly driven to a breaking point again!
She pointed at Lin Dazhi and said: "Lin Dazhi, can you have some shame? I'm still in the house, and you two dogs are cuddling in front of me—do you think I don't exist?"
Watching Zhou Yue's exasperated state, Lin Dazhi said leisurely: "What a joke. Zhou Yue, don't forget this is my house. I'm a single man now; is there anything wrong with being intimate with my own woman in my own home? Is it against the law? Don't forget, 'divorced but not moved out' was your own proposal; I didn't force you to live here. If you don't like watching, you can move out right now."
Zhou Yue was so choked by Lin Dazhi's words that she nearly gasped for air. However, despite being furious, she had to admit that Lin Dazhi was right.
The "divorced but not moved out" arrangement was indeed her own proposal because she had her own little calculations. Firstly, the apartment under her name was currently being rented out, providing an annual rental income of at least 20,000; living here allowed her to save that money. Secondly, it was close to the school where she worked, making her daily commute convenient. Thirdly, having spent so many years with Lin Dazhi, she believed she had this man firmly under her thumb. Even after the divorce, she would still be the one calling the shots in this house. She could continue to enjoy the convenience of Lin Dazhi doing the chores and cooking, while also being able to be with Liu Haibo openly—she had essentially taken every advantage.
Unfortunately, while Zhou Yue's plans were well-thought-out, the development of events after the divorce deviated completely from her expectations.
First, she ran into her ex-husband at the mall, and he had actually hooked up with her best friend. That wasn't even the worst part; Bai Weiwei, for some unknown reason, had actually bought Lin Dazhi a watch worth 3.2 million!
Even more outrageous was that this was only the first day of her divorce, and Lin Dazhi had already brought another woman into the house—and that woman was her own best friend!
In Zhou Yue's view, a low-class, poor loser like Lin Dazhi was destined to have no other woman willing to be with him after the divorce. Yet, the moment she divorced him, her best friend Bai Weiwei had picked up her leftovers, which made her feel as uncomfortable as if she had swallowed a dead fly!
Zhou Yue was left speechless by Lin Dazhi's words. She wanted to move out now, but she couldn't bear to lose the free housing. After thinking for a moment, she said to Bai Weiwei: "Weiwei, I don't know when you and Lin Dazhi started, but I want to ask you one thing: what exactly is good about this man that you could actually take a fancy to him? You even bought him such an expensive watch. Bai Weiwei, have you lost your mind? Don't you know he's currently delivering food? A man with absolutely no ambition like this—what part of him is worth you liking?"
Bai Weiwei was held in Lin Dazhi's arms, as obedient as a little kitten, completely devoid of her usual aura as a career woman.
Hearing Zhou Yue's words, she wrapped her arms around Lin Dazhi's neck and rubbed her cheek against his face before saying to Zhou Yue: "Xiaoyue, don't blame me for being honest, but it was when you two came out of the Civil Affairs Bureau today that I looked at Lin and just... just suddenly had a feeling. I know that being with Lin will make you feel uncomfortable, but I don't want to go against my own feelings either. You know I'm twenty-seven this year; if I don't find a partner soon, I'll be an older leftover woman. You're my good sister; you wouldn't want me to stay single forever, would you?"
Listening to Bai Weiwei's pitiful explanation, Zhou Yue became even more incensed and said without hesitation: "Bai Weiwei, you said it yourself, we're good sisters. I don't care who you date, but I really can't understand you picking someone like Lin Dazhi. You say you had a feeling just by looking at him? Why do I find that so hard to believe? How many times have you seen him over the years? Why didn't I ever see you have feelings for him before?"
Bai Weiwei looked at Zhou Yue, who was furious, and sighed deliberately: "Oh, Xiaoyue, how can you say that? When you weren't divorced from Lin yet, how could I have had those kinds of thoughts about him? What kind of person would that make me? You might not believe it, but when I looked at Lin before, I really didn't have any feelings. It was just this morning, when he came out of the Civil Affairs Bureau with you, that I suddenly felt like Lin had become a different person. He was especially charming and especially attractive to me. It was just that... that feeling suddenly came out, and I just wanted to cherish him and adore him. As long as he's happy, I'll do anything for him. Xiaoyue, can you understand that feeling of mine? I... I just can't control myself. You can understand me, right?"
