Chapter 66: Disturbance at the Night Market

~7 min read 1,350 words

Minsheng Road's snack street is the liveliest place in the Shangcheng District at night.

It is not far from the Shangcheng Huafu residential complex where Lin Dazhi lives, just a few minutes' walk away.

Although Zhang Xiaoli had accepted the Hygiene Products Subsystem, she hadn't forgotten about treating Lin Dazhi and Bai Weiwei to a meal; however, since she now belonged to Lin Dazhi, there was naturally no need to agonize over which high-end place to dine at to show her respect for him—she just listened to Lin Dazhi, and that was that.

Upon hearing that Lin Dazhi wanted to go to the snack street, neither woman had any objections. Although they had both achieved financial freedom under the blessing of the system Lin Dazhi provided and could logically afford any luxurious feast, they hadn't been rich for long, and neither woman had the fussy habits of the wealthy.

They were ordinary people to begin with, so this kind of place with the flavor of human life was the most comfortable.

All three of them had changed into casual clothes. Lin Dazhi wore a simple white pure cotton T-shirt, paired with dark blue straight-leg jeans and white sneakers. The simple outfit perfectly highlighted the advantages of his physique, which rivaled that of a fitness coach, drawing countless covetous gazes from women along the way.

Bai Weiwei wore a white pleated miniskirt and a light green loose-fitting shirt on top; the simple outfit exuded the charm of a mature woman. Zhang Xiaoli wore light blue denim shorts, revealing her long, straight legs, paired with a pink short-sleeved knit top, making her look full of youthful vitality.

Although the two women's clothes were ordinary items bought at roadside shops, a beauty is a beauty; they looked good in anything and were the center of attention wherever they walked.

A great beauty and a young beauty flanking Lin Dazhi—this combination made countless people envious.

Arriving at the snack street, the two women switched to "foodie mode." Bai Weiwei held a handful of skewers, Zhang Xiaoli held a box of stinky tofu, and with a drink in each of their hands, they ate and drank to their hearts' content.

Lin Dazhi held nothing, nor did he need to. Along the way, the mere act of the two women feeding him was enough to make him seven or eight parts full.

The three of them strolled and ate, and before they knew it, they arrived at the barbecue food stall in the center of the snack street.

"Lin, let's sit here for a while. This place has good craft beer; I'll get you a glass to try," Zhang Xiaoli said.

"Sure, go ahead and order some more skewers, and we'll eat right here," Lin Dazhi said with a smile.

"You got it." Zhang Xiaoli made an 'OK' gesture and skipped off to buy food.

"Youth is a wonderful thing. How does it feel to be with a spirited young girl?" Bai Weiwei bit on her drink, gently rubbed her lower leg against Lin Dazhi's leg, and asked in a teasing tone.

"This little girl has no fewer schemes than you do. At first, I thought she was a pure, innocent flower; if that were really the case, I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to make a move," Lin Dazhi said, his gaze passing through the crowd to look at Zhang Xiaoli's petite back.

"Pfft, I saw right through this 'white lotus' at a glance. Don't look at how Zhou Xiaojun acts all like a hoodlum, as if he could tame her; in reality, his skill is far inferior to hers. Didn't you hear what Zhou Yue said? Zhou Xiaojun has spent nearly twenty thousand yuan on her, and he hasn't even kissed her little mouth," Bai Weiwei said, curling her lips.

"Zhou Yue didn't tell me about that. Did she tell you?" Lin Dazhi asked with a smile.

"Of course. We sisters talk about everything, including that stuff. Let me tell you, if a woman gets fired up, it has nothing to do with you men," Bai Weiwei said with a wicked smile.

"I can feel that. Hey, so if I took in this little white lotus Zhang Xiaoli, does that count as accumulating merit and doing good deeds?" Lin Dazhi said with a chuckle.

"Lin, your heart is truly kind, but you think too simply of Zhang Xiaoli. Just wait and see; this little girl knows how to play," Bai Weiwei said with a giggle.

Just as Lin Dazhi was about to say something else, he suddenly noticed an argument coming from not far away, and upon listening closely, it seemed to include Zhang Xiaoli's voice.

"It sounds like Lili is arguing with someone," Bai Weiwei also realized.

"Let's go take a look," Lin Dazhi said, standing up and walking toward the opposite side.

"Zhou Xiaojun, you're drunk! Let go of me, stop getting handsy!" Zhang Xiaoli stood by the table, angrily shaking off Zhou Xiaojun's hand, and said with a glare.

Zhou Xiaojun was clearly drunk; he was shirtless, revealing a thin, rib-like upper body, reeking of alcohol, his face flushed red. He swayed as he pointed at Zhang Xiaoli and said, "Damn it, Zhang Xiaoli, what are you... what are you pretending for? I asked you to eat and you... you didn't come, but you're out on a d-date with another man behind my back, right? Zhang Xiaoli, I... I'm telling you, my patience has a... a limit! Don't you go challenging my... my bottom line!"

"Xiaojun, talk to your girlfriend properly!"

"Exactly, didn't your girlfriend come here?"

"Come, come, girlfriend, sit down and have a drink!"

At the table behind Zhou Xiaojun sat six or seven men and women. The men were all shirtless like him, showing off tattoos. Each person had a 'spirited girl' sitting next to them, each with a cigarette in hand. There wasn't much barbecue on the table, but there was a pile of beer bottles—at least sixty or seventy of them.

Seeing that Zhang Xiaoli was pretty, several of the men followed suit, emboldened by the alcohol, their eyes scanning her chest and thighs with lecherous gazes.

"Zhou Xiaojun, spare me that act! I told you long ago that we are just ordinary friends; stop meddling in my business! Zhou Xiaojun, I'm telling you, if you do this again, we won't be seeing each other anymore!" Zhang Xiaoli said angrily.

"Fine, good! Zhang Xiaoli, you've got guts, I... I respect you as a man! Looking down on me, right? Seeing someone rich and getting high standards, right? Getting carried away, right? Fine! You pay me back the money I spent on you while we were dating! Damn it, I spent... spent so much money on you, and you say you're done just like that?" Zhou Xiaojun said, swaying.

"Pfft, Zhou Xiaojun, can't afford to lose, right? Fine, isn't it just money?"

As she spoke, Zhang Xiaoli took out her latest iPhone 16 Pro and transferred twenty thousand yuan directly to Zhou Xiaojun.

The next moment, she shook the transfer record on her phone and said in a mocking tone, "Zhou Xiaojun, look closely. I've paid you back, and there's more than enough. Don't come bothering me again!"

"Xiaoli, what's going on? Zhou Xiaojun? Why are you here too? What are you all doing?" Bai Weiwei pushed through the crowd and, seeing the scene between Zhang Xiaoli and Zhou Xiaojun, asked in surprise.

Bai Weiwei's appearance immediately made the fox friends behind Zhou Xiaojun widen their eyes!

This woman was too beautiful—not just beautiful, but alluring. The few 'spirited guys' whose heads were swimming with alcohol were suddenly a bit dazed.

Zhou Xiaojun also saw Bai Weiwei, and he also saw Lin Dazhi standing beside her.

Seeing this, Zhou Xiaojun let out a drunken hiccup and gave a strange laugh.

"So that's why you didn't think much of me—it turns out you've taken a fancy to my former brother-in-law. No wonder, my former brother-in-law is a big spender now, after all," Zhou Xiaojun said sarcastically.
