Chapter 2910: Impermanence
The red general's beautiful face, in the black serpent's eyes, now resembled a rakshasa, more terrifying than a blue-faced, fanged evil ghost.
Within a hundred zhang of the thunder dragon, the rolling torrents all turned into electric light. The red general leaned forward, thrusting through the waves, and pointed at the black dragon:
"Go!"
"Is it just a thunder strike? Why make such a big fuss? The Fate Giant Serpent originally wasn't afraid of it, but, huh?"
At the instant the Floating Life Blade emerged from the water, the rolling torrents went from motion to stillness, suddenly congealing!
Just an instant, and the Fate Giant Serpent felt the power transmitted through the torrent from the other side—strong and strange.
Twisted, sharp, elusive. It was as if it sat atop an erupting volcano, that surging force rising from below, charging straight at it.
With a command from the red general, wherever the thunder light passed, the torrents actually flowed backward!
Long ago, the red general had personally demonstrated the Reverse Current Slash to He Lingchuan—just a light strike could not only cut water but even make river water flow upstream.
Back then it was merely an ordinary river, yet it gave He Lingchuan a great shock. Now, with the Fate Torrent, the red general could actually reverse it single-handedly!
The dark torrent was both the master of this dark canopy and the substance of the Fate Giant Serpent's body.
Originally, the torrent washed over the serpent's prey; now it suddenly reversed upward, and what was washed became the serpent itself.
"This is impossible!" the Fate Giant Serpent did not understand what kind of power this was, but instinctively loathed and feared it, "You absolutely cannot overcome the power of law!"
"You think too highly of yourself." The red general laughed, "You dare call yourself law? You are merely the Fate Ancient God's comprehension of law!"
The heavenly demon solidified its understanding of law and a portion of divine power, calling it a "divine seal."
Law is objective; comprehension of law is subjective, varying by person or god.
"Comprehension" can be multidimensional, can be contradictory before and after, can be self-conflicting. For example, different heavenly demons might condense divine seals of the same name, like "Ice Divine Seal" or "Space Divine Seal," but their emphasized content differs.
Again, for example, the red general and the Fate Black Serpent's differing judgments on the trial's outcome are each holding to their own views.
"Only the Dragon God is qualified to call itself the creator of law!"
The Dragon God truly introduced a new lawful force into the real heaven and earth, at the cost of its true immortal body being shattered to pieces, even its divine soul cast into the great cauldron, for thousands of years as one day, driving the fusion of primal force and heaven and earth.
The hardship and contribution between the two are worlds apart.
Then the thunder dragon lunged, using its sharp claws and teeth to tear at the giant serpent's body.
The two colossal beings clashed, the eruptive power shaking the entire canopy.
The Fate Black Serpent quickly fell to the downwind, for though the thunder dragon's power was formidable, it was the red general on its back who was truly terrifying!
The blade aura on her hand had already expanded to over a hundred zhang, waving it forth produced myriad thunderbolts, like the Milky Way flowing backward. The Fate Black Serpent took two strikes, only then discovering that within the blade aura lay a strange corrosive power, silently lurking beneath the thunder.
This power's consumption of the black serpent's body was fiercer than thunder.
The black serpent only said, "How unreasonable: 'This is He Lingchuan's personal trial; what right do you have to interfere?'"
The red general coldly laughed: "This is your and He Lingchuan's problem; what right do you have to let karma interfere?"
Fate Black Serpent + Karma vs. He Lingchuan, two against one, unfair.
They dare to do the first, then don't blame the red general for doing the fifteenth.
The Fate Black Serpent did not manifest more avatars. It was already strained just dealing with the red general; if it diverted power further, it would likely lose even faster.
The red general, who fell together with Panlong City two hundred years ago, fundamentally was not this strong. The Fate Black Serpent read what she had endured, and thus felt dread.
Its body bore countless wounds, all torn open by the thunder dragon. The thunder dragon likewise suffered grave injuries, but both sides could quickly replenish from the black smoke and thunder water.
The black serpent dodged a strike from the Floating Life Blade; in the torrent behind it, covered by thunder waves, suddenly another thunder-light-flashing figure leapt out—
It was indeed another thunder dragon emerging from the water!
It was smaller in size but more agile, mercilessly biting down on the black serpent's neck.
The black serpent was caught off guard, unable to dodge.
The appearance of the second thunder dragon meant the thunder power in this space rapidly intensified, backlashing the Fate Black Serpent's original power.
As soon as it appeared, the red general leapt forward like an arrow, rushing like a meteor toward the black serpent. The latter, trapped by the thunder dragon, opened its mouth and spewed black fire at her.
The red general neither dodged nor evaded, gripping the Floating Life Blade with both hands, and with full focus unleashed a Meteor Slash.
Though named "Meteor," the instant's brilliance was dazzling, a hundred times brighter than the afternoon sun. This slash cut into the black serpent's maw, precisely from the junction of upper and lower jaws, all the way to the rear skull!
With just one stroke, it severed head from body.
The blade aura and time, it seemed, both congealed in that instant.
Deprived of the Fate-led pulling force, the black serpent's body rapidly collapsed in the thunder light, no longer taking form.
The giant serpent remained only a head fallen to the ground, on its last breath, yet still unwilling: "This shouldn't be! What power is this?"
"The dark canopy is its home turf! Here, what power could surpass 'Fate' itself?"
"This is 'Impermanence.'" The red general lifted her foot and stepped on the serpent's head, driving the blade in until the hilt vanished, "Fate's most captivating yet elusive aspect is 'Impermanence.' You cannot even encompass 'Impermanence,' yet you dare call yourself Fate's power?"
The thunder strike she had just unleashed could be called the "Impermanence Slash."
Worldly affairs are impermanent; fate toys with people.
How can a fixed fate be rewritten? Impermanence.
Perhaps it was a certain accidental mutation, or perhaps it was someone's sudden emergence from obscurity.
Such explosive, burst-like power, even Fate cannot match.
On the surface, this is the red general versus the Fate Black Serpent; in truth, it is the red general versus the Fate Ancient God's residual divine-seal comprehension, a contest of lawful understanding, and the latter unfortunately lost.
"No, this is not just 'Impermanence' power, and you are not merely the red general! Dragon God… Mi Tian… Unfair…" the Fate Giant Serpent was not so easily deceived, it keenly sensed the red general had not spoken the whole truth.
But its voice broke off, unable to finish, and it vanished in place.
Without Fate's protection, the karma black smoke no longer dared to stir up trouble; the red general took a few steps forward, and the black smoke scattered, automatically clearing a large blank space.
The red general only said one word to it:
"Scram!"
She gripped the Floating Life Blade; as the blade tip moved, the karma dispersed.
The dark canopy, which no divine art or spell could previously break, now simply dissolved on its own.
Karma only has meaning when combined with the flood of fate; it can only obstruct the Red General that way. Now that the divine aspect of fate has been shattered, what significance does it still hold by remaining?
Forget it, forget it. Disperse, disperse.
