Chapter 3062: Twin Stars Fall
Until it was no longer blinded by rage, Ying Tian sensed something was wrong.
How could a great heavenly god possibly be exhausted from breaking through a dozen—oh, several dozen mirrors? He hadn't even fought the Red General, yet he was gasping for breath, his limbs feeling as if weighed down by dozens of great mountains.
Then he noticed his claw tips had turned white.
With a human head and insect body, looking down he could only see his own abdomen. But his usually round belly was now shriveled and sagging, so much so that he could pull out a long flap of wrinkled skin. Its six legs had joints like long-neglected parts, creaking with every movement, ready to fail at any moment.
What—what had happened to him?
Ying Tian suddenly felt an itch, scratched at the soft folds of his belly a few times, and actually scratched out a small flower.
This flower was smaller than a third of a sesame seed, trumpet-shaped, and pure white all over.
Now it had fully bloomed.
"What is this!" Ying Tian could actually feel his own divine power from this flower!
But as soon as he pinched it, the flower shattered and dissipated into nothing.
Immediately afterward, he found another small white flower, then another, on his sleeve.
But even as he crushed one flower after another, what he had lost would not return.
"This is the Crystal Orchid." The Red General's silhouette appeared faintly in the dark mirror ahead, "also called the Death Flower."
O
Ying Tian shouted sternly: "What have you done to me!"
His four hind legs could no longer support his body's weight, and with a pat he collapsed.
The Red General gave a low chuckle, his silhouette vanishing from the mirror.
Immediately afterward, light appeared in the mirror.
Ying Tian saw another figure in the mirror, but it was no longer the Red General.
This was also a humanoid insect monster, with six legs, about the same size as him, but——
but very old!
Its human face was covered in wrinkles and yellow spots, cheekbones prominent and cheeks sunken, eyebrows completely white but hair sparse.
Even the whites of its eyes had turned blue.
To describe the monster in the mirror with the two words "maodie" would be too young.
Just lying on the ground, it exuded the decrepit feeling of a dying candle in the wind, as if it would return to dust and earth in the next breath.
Ying Tian could not believe it, raised his forepaw and touched his face, and the monster in the mirror made the same motion.
This was him!
This monster was his reflection in the mirror.
When had he become like this!
When had the Red General struck him, and how had he not noticed at all?
"The mirror shards you shattered contained the seeds of the Death Flower." The Red General's voice sounded again behind him, this time with footsteps, "They have taken root and sprouted inside your body, drawing on your life force, making you grow ever older. The more mirrors you shattered, the more Death Seeds you gained, and thus the faster you aged."
The faster one aged, the faster one died.
Ying Tian murmured: "How could this be possible!"
He was so powerful, how could he suffer such a humiliating defeat!
"The kaleidoscope world accelerated your aging. That's all."
Everything happened unnoticed, Ying Tian having been blinded by rage, failed to sense his own abnormality, until this moment arrived.
Her footsteps on the mirror surface were clear and cold, rhythmic—pa, pa, pa—the countdown to death's approach.
"I said before, without your younger brother, you are nothing."
Ying Tian's attack power was astonishing, but his defense was thin; once injured, he had to draw strength and life force from his younger brother, Neng Tian. After the Red General separated them, Neng Tian became harder to kill instead.
Neng Tian alone had the power to single-handedly slay the Heavenly Phoenix.
As for Ying Tian, relatively weak in strength, he could not withstand the Death Flower's drain.
At this moment Ying Tian could not even turn his head to look at her, only able to stare straight ahead at the mirror.
"When did you start scheming against us?"
"You should know well, those two paper puppet effigies." The Red General smiled, "The death curse I planted on Wei Jia Shen can drag everyone around him into the Death God's Kaleidoscope."
This was also her first use of the Kaleidoscope; to be safe, she tried to contain fewer enemies.
Ying Tian stared at his reflection in the mirror, watching a sharp spur slowly slide out from the Red General's arrow-sleeve, hovering above his head: "Answer me two questions, and I'll let you die a little more comfortably: When does the Ling Xu Holy Venerable himself plan to descend to the mortal realm? As for this divine artifact, 'Spring Wind and Rain,' how does he intend to use it?"
The fact that the Twin Stars were sent to carry out this absolutely secret plan to invade the Cang Yan King's palace shows that the Ling Xu Holy Venerable trusts them completely, and perhaps will reveal more secrets to them.
"Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you!" Ying Tian bared his teeth, giving the mirror a withered but vicious smile, "The Holy Venerable has entered the Vast Surge Realm, while you can only conjure a tiny little Kaleidoscope. With your meager abilities, you are no match for the Holy Venerable! Wait—he will avenge us!"
To die without a fight, how he hated it!
"What a pity." The Red General forced the two spikes together, restoring them to the Ying Lei Spear, yet did not kill him, "The day I slay the Ling Xu Holy Venerable, you will not see it."
As his words fell, Ying Tian's back suddenly burst open, the intense pain making him cry out.
Something had grown out from his back—
A Crystal Orchid the size of a normal trumpet flower.
Its blooming required absorbing the energy of other Crystal Orchids, and also drawing on Ying Tian's last life force.
This drain was not silent like before; the agony of bone-sucking and marrow-sucking made Ying Tian leap up suddenly, lunging at the Red General.
But the Red General only flicked a finger, and sent this great heavenly demon flying.
Ying Tian fell back to the ground, his six legs twitching several times, then gradually stilled.
Like a bug sprayed with insecticide.
The two great heavenly gods of the Ling Xu multitude, Ying and Neng Tian, have fallen!
The Red General then opened his palm, the Crystal Orchid turning into a wisp of white light, flying into his hand.
She closed her eyes, exhaled softly, and stood still.
When she opened her eyes again, the scars on her crimson battle armor had vanished, as if newly forged.
The crystal orchid siphoned vitality from the enemy, refined it into purest energy, and returned it to her, its master.
This is one of the standard abilities of the God of Death.
The Red General swept her hand, and over a dozen mirrors before her lit up, each reflecting a heavenly demon.
They are all attendant deities beside Ying Shengtian; when the Red General erected this kaleidoscopic world, she encompassed them within it, imprisoning each separately.
Their expressions were all fearful and anxious.
They also all appeared aged.
Because tonight she must face too many heavenly demons, she abandoned her former direct, brute-force approach, opting instead to exhaust Ying Shengtian within the kaleidoscopic space, thereby conserving her own strength to the utmost.
"Now, it's time to clean up these things," said the Red General, finishing her words as she lifted her leg and stepped into the nearest mirror.
Tonight is destined to be a long and bloody night.
