Chapter 400: 2022 Year-End Summary
Today is the last day of 2022, so let me show you the notebooks filled with detailed outlines that I've used up for the book "Immortal."
Actually, a third of the second notebook has been written through as well.
By the time this book is finished, I conservatively estimate I'll have used up four or five more; yes, conservatively.
Before starting the book, I prepared several outlines—some for over a million words, some for over two million—originally intending to use a short one to test the waters. After all, being a newcomer, it's not good to aim too big.
But there is a destined path in the unseen, and I chose the longest and most difficult one.
In my ninth year of writing, I consider my prose, plot control, knowledge base, and life insights to be gradually maturing, and the current complex internal and external environment and historical context make this the perfect time to write this book.
Once missed, the state of mind and artistic conception might never be right again.
Yet this has also led to a level of writing difficulty that far exceeds all my previous works.
Although it is only a few thousand words a day, it takes over 8 hours on average; besides conceiving, drafting detailed outlines, and writing, I have to go back and polish it over and over again to ensure consistency and a proper pace.
Compared to my previous works which were formed in one go, it is normal for a segment of the plot in "Immortal" to be revised more than five times before it is finally presented to you.
My energy and speed of thought cannot keep up with many of my peers, so the only thing I can compete with them on is perhaps the word "diligence."
Yet I have ambition; I hope that what I write is not limited to so-called "web novels."
It should contain serious reflection, and it can also reach the softest parts of the human heart.
It can bring you joy and delight, and it can also leave you with many reflections.
It can even accompany you as you explore this world.
Our writing is not as hot-blooded or fast-paced as other authors', nor is it as cathartic to read. But the ecology in this ocean of Qidian should be diverse, just as a spring garden doesn't have only one kind of flower in bloom.
There isn't only one kind of heart in the human world worth protecting.
I've digressed.
This is a year-end summary, so I should report the results:
The book "After the Immortals Disappear" was published on September 1st; the initial subscription was only 200, but four months later, the average subscription is 3000+, which can be considered a small boutique work.
The day it was included in the boutique channel, I went back to my old book to post an announcement, notifying old fans to come visit.
The initial struggle was all within expectations.
After all, it was my own insistence to start from zero.
A gentleman asked me if I regretted it, and if I knew it would be like this, why didn't I bring "Divine Covenant" over?
I said, regret my ass! You don't understand the joy of playing an alt account.
Such great rivers and seas are what my heart yearns for.
Even if I am just a tiny shrimp just entering the pugilistic world now, the future is promising.
If one never goes to strike the water in the middle of the stream and challenge the waves in a lifetime, how boring would life be?
Of course, one must be optimistic in mindset but serious in tactics. You have to eat one bite at a time and walk one step at a time.
Only by moving steadily can one reach far.
If you also like this book, please make sure to let me know.
My path is not lonely; writing tirelessly under a solitary lamp in the long night is what gives it more motivation and meaning.
Looking back at 2022, a year full of disasters and hardships is coming to an end.
Let us look forward to the future and pray for it together, leaving the fatigue and pain in 2022.
Life must go on, and ideals must be approached.
We will see you next year ^_^
