Chapter 90

~9 min read 1,798 words

After Ding Huan got in the car, the old six waiting inside didn't see Nian Jinqing return, and didn't care.

Someone like Nian Jinqing wasn't even worth a flea in Old Six's eyes.

"Old Six, I need to go to the Human Corridor Frontline—two of my friends might be in trouble there, so the Kunlun Mountain trip has to be postponed. Are you coming with me, or waiting here?"

Ding Huan looked at Old Six after speaking.

Old Six immediately shook his head, clearly not wanting to accompany Ding Huan to the Human Corridor Frontline.

What joke is this? Was he, Old Six, a monkey with so much free time? He didn't even have enough time for cultivation.

Besides, with his current strength, going to the Human Corridor Frontline was just going to die—either way.

"Should I arrange a place for you to wait for me?" Ding Huan asked.

Old Six shook his head again—he had plenty of places to survive.

"Then wait here for me," Ding Huan said. "When I return, I'll go to Nian Jinqing's villa. If I can't find you, I'll head to Kunlun Mountain alone."

Old Six nodded—he had no objection to Ding Huan's arrangement.

"Good. Don't wander off randomly. Right now, there are people hunting gene monsters everywhere. If you get killed, you'll just have to accept your bad luck."

Ding Huan patted Old Six on the head, then drove him to the villa district where Nian Jinqing lived.

Nian Jinqing chose a remote location for peace and to avoid disturbance.

Ding Huan believed that with Old Six's cunning, he wouldn't be easily spotted here.

After dropping off Old Six, Ding Huan went to the Security Bureau.

He couldn't fly yet, nor could he ride a sword. To reach the Human Corridor Frontline, he had to rely on the Security Bureau.

…

The Puhai Security Bureau sat near the seaside Four Ports, because its proximity to the Twin Seas allowed it to respond immediately if sea monsters approached.

Ding Huan parked and walked to the Security Bureau's entrance—it was unusually quiet.

"Who are you looking for?" The guard stared at Ding Huan, tone wary.

He recognized Ding Huan's car—it belonged to Nian Jinqing of the Beasts King Association. Since Nian Jinqing wasn't present, Ding Huan must be representing him.

"I'm here to see the director of the Security Bureau… I'm Ding Huan." Ding Huan smiled.

The guard snorted, but then heard the name "Ding Huan"—his eyes widened in surprise. "Are you Teacher Ding from Yujiang University? The mentor of Qu Yi and Fang Chong?"

"That's me," Ding Huan nodded.

"Please wait a moment…" The guard immediately picked up the phone.

Within minutes, an elderly man rushed out, his face flushed with excitement. "Are you Teacher Ding Huan?"

Ding Huan nodded. "Yes. And you are?"

"I'm Zhu Qinjiang, former director of the Puhai Security Bureau. Our current director Zong Han is critically injured, the Gene Director Wan Hua is dead, the Operations Group Supervisor Wang Qiusheng is dead, and the Criminal Captain He Hu is dead."

"The Puhai Security Bureau has no one left—I'm this old skeleton coming to hold the line."

Zhu Qinjiang spoke calmly, but Ding Huan heard a finality in his voice.

Zhu Qinjiang was ready to die at any moment—so long as one person in the Security Bureau still lived, they would fight for Huaxia one more day.

Indeed, Zhu Qinjiang continued:

"Teacher Ding, you came here because you want to find your students at the Human Corridor Frontline. Take me with you. I'm an old skeleton, but I can still kill a few monsters."

Ding Huan shook his head. "I only came to use the Security Bureau's resources to board a flight to the Human Corridor Frontline. Old Director, you should stay behind to hold Puhai—you don't need to come with me."

Zhu Qinjiang's tone grew agitated at Ding Huan's words:

"Ding Huan, I was once director of the Security Bureau. If you're going, I can fly you there myself."

"Our current director is missing, the supervisor is dead, the director is dead, the captain is dead—now it's this old man's turn. You must let me go with you."

Zhu Qinjiang had long wanted to go to the Human Corridor Frontline—but had no justification.

Ding Huan had trained several powerful students, whose strength was unquestionably fit for the frontlines. And Ding Huan himself was going to search for students who had sacrificed for humanity—he had every right to apply for frontline access.

Ding Huan felt a deep emotion, filled with respect. Compared to the Gene Alliance's selfishness, the Security Bureau were true guardians.

He looked at Zhu Qinjiang and spoke slowly, word by word:

"Old Director, as you said, my students may already be dead or missing at the Human Corridor Frontline—now it's this teacher's turn."

"If the day comes when you must go out, I'm certain you'll go without hesitation. But now, the young still stand."

"You won't get approved for a civilian flight to the Human Corridor Frontline—you'll have to ride one of our Security Bureau's combat jets. Our plane is the single-engine CY03 fighter. So I still have to take you there."

Old Director Zhu Qinjiang chuckled.

"Sir, I can fly that fighter!" A Security Bureau officer rushed forward to speak.

"Shut up," Zhu Qinjiang glared, and the officer fell silent immediately.

Ding Huan smiled. "Old Director, I really can fly it."

Ding Huan had never flown this fighter, but over the years on Changyi Continent, when his cultivation stalled, he studied every kind of combat aircraft. He eventually chose the Star Five—fast and combat-capable.

So Ding Huan was certain: if he sat in the cockpit, he could fly this plane.

"If you won't let me go, I won't lend you the plane," Zhu Qinjiang snapped, face darkening.

"Then forget it," Ding Huan turned and walked away.

He had thought of an alternative: go to Qianluo Mountain and find the Great Wilderness Jin Yuan—a flying monster to carry him there.

"Wait! Teacher Ding, really, you won't take me?" Zhu Qinjiang called out, rushing forward as Ding Huan turned to leave.

Ding Huan stopped, looking at Zhu Qinjiang without speaking.

"Fine, fine—I give up. If you can fly it, fly it yourself."

"But do me one favor—find Qitong from the Security Bureau. He went missing after the Human Corridor Frontline collapsed."

Zhu Qinjiang's voice carried a note of desperate pleading.

"Qitong? What position did he hold in the Security Bureau?" Ding Huan asked, puzzled.

"He's not an official; he's the future of our Security Bureau. He went with Zong Han back then, and he fused with a kind of lightning-type gene…"

"Is it the Shi'er'ai Gene developed by West Wind Gene Company?" Ding Huan immediately asked.

"Hmph, the Shi'er'ai Gene doesn't count for shit. This one was developed by our Security Bureau ourselves. Only Qi Tong successfully fused with it. In just one month, Qi Tong became a Level Two Gene Cultivator, and he can release lightning-arc attacks.

He insisted on going with Zong Han to the Human Corridor Defense Line, and he went missing after the line was breached this time." Zhu Qinjiang explained.

"Good. As long as I find him, I'll bring him back." Ding Huan replied.

He'd borrowed their plane, so this small favor was nothing.

……

Zhu Qinjiang was decisive and swift in his work; once he agreed to Ding Huan's matter, there was no dawdling at all.

In just twenty minutes, all the procedures were handled, and Ding Huan was aboard the plane.

It was a single-engine fighter jet, not difficult to pilot. With the manual beside him, Ding Huan didn't even need to look — a sweep of his divine sense told him the basic way to fly it.

Seeing Ding Huan actually start the plane, and just two minutes later the plane streak into the blue sky, Zhu Qinjiang sighed inwardly.

He could understand Ding Huan's feelings, just as he felt the same himself.

He could not allow everyone in the Security Bureau to be dead while he, Zhu Qinjiang, lingered on behind. What a pity Ding Huan was unwilling to take him along.

Ding Huan familiarized himself with the CY03 fighter in just over ten minutes. This fighter's advantage should lie entirely in speed. The cabin was small, and it couldn't carry much ordnance either.

This time the application was rushed; it didn't even come equipped with weapons, let alone ordnance.

Ding Huan didn't mind. In his view, as long as he could reach the Human Security Corridor Defense Line, that was enough.

The plane was quickly pushed by Ding Huan to maximum speed. Ding Huan felt his divine sense could still clearly observe the outside of the plane, and he was quite satisfied.

With his divine sense able to cover the outside of the plane, Ding Huan had no fear of flying fierce beasts approaching.

As long as any flying fierce beast dared to come close, he'd give it a few wind blades.

Wait, that's not right. Ding Huan suddenly thought of a problem: although his Wind Blade Art was cast in coordination with divine sense, the real killing power still came from true-element attacks.

He was inside the fighter's cockpit — wouldn't the wind blades be blocked by the cockpit?

Once he understood this reasoning, Ding Huan's mood instantly turned a little sour.

It looked like he had to create a spell — one that only needed divine sense to form wind blades, without requiring true-element coordination.

The first thing Ding Huan thought of was the Two-Tailed One-Eyed Fox, the demonic beast most known for spiritual attacks.

That's right, this was a demonic beast. This kind of one-eyed fox could use spiritual force to attack an enemy's mind within a range of thirty meters.

On the Changyi Continent, the Two-Tailed One-Eyed Fox was of astonishing value, because everyone wanted its skill gene.

Ding Huan sighed. This was Earth; Earth probably didn't have this kind of demonic beast. And even if such a demonic beast existed, he probably couldn't beat it right now.

At this moment, Ding Huan could only speed the plane up even more. As long as the speed was fast enough, flying fierce beasts wouldn't be able to intercept.

Although this fighter was single-engine, its speed truly did not disappoint Ding Huan. In less than four hours, Ding Huan had guided the plane to land.

The dense, teeming fierce beasts on the ground — Ding Huan didn't care at all, and directly piloted the fighter to crush through them.

Once he was on the ground, he had plenty of ways to kill these low-level fierce beasts.

This kind of fighter might malfunction from grinding through fierce beasts, but it absolutely wouldn't suffer engine spontaneous combustion.
