Chapter 45: The Nonexistent Person
From Lin Yue’s words before entering meditation, it was easy to judge that she was a cultivator who had awakened spiritual sense.
Above the Medium Realm lies the Spiritual Sense Realm.
This is another prominent trait after a cultivator’s body evolves.
After awakening spiritual sense, a cultivator can perceive everything around even with eyes closed, detecting even the faintest breeze or rustle, while their reaction speed undergoes a qualitative leap.
And there is one more point.
Cultivators can perceive certain unknown entities.
Even if you activate the medium, it doesn't mean you can fully see this world—sometimes feeling is more important than sight.
Quickly.
Lin Yue entered meditation.
She began perceiving the surrounding cosmic energy.
Compared to other places, the cosmic energy in Li Yi’s home showed no noticeable increase; cultivating here was no different from cultivating elsewhere.
“Expand my perception range—maybe I haven’t found the right point.”
Lin Yue thought to herself.
Her perception spread outward like invisible tentacles, and in her mind appeared the outlines of surrounding objects.
She perceived the ground, the walls, and Li Yi.
But in her perception, Li Yi was merely a human silhouette, as if some interference prevented her from clearly discerning his features.
This was a normal phenomenon.
Because the human body naturally possesses a bio-magnetic field.
And since Li Yi cultivated, his bio-magnetic field was stronger, capable of interfering with Spiritual Sense perception; even stronger cultivators and supernatural beings could generate their own energy fields, and as long as the energy field existed, nothing hidden within it could be perceived.
“No discoveries at all—did I misjudge? Is the problem not in Li Yi’s home?”
A thought flashed through Lin Yue’s mind.
But she still did not consider the possibility of a strange artifact.
After all, strange artifacts were far too precious and rare; Li Yi was just an ordinary cultivator—how could he possibly possess one? It was sheer fantasy.
Yet just then.
Suddenly.
Lin Yue, in meditation, jolted violently, every hair on her body standing upright.
Good heavens.
What was that?
In Lin Yue’s perception, besides Li Yi, another human silhouette had appeared—standing motionless in a corner of the living room.
But how could that be?
The entire house contained only Li Yi and herself.
No, not right.
There were also Li Yi’s parents.
But Li Yi’s parents were Silent Ones, always asleep in their medical pods.
Could Li Yi’s parents have awakened?
It must be so.
Lin Yue immediately calmed somewhat, but to confirm, she exited meditation and woke up instantly.
“How is it? Any discoveries?” Li Yi asked beside her.
“Li Yi, wait a moment.” Lin Yue immediately turned her head toward the direction of the human silhouette she had perceived.
That glance made Lin Yue’s pupils contract sharply, instantly revealing a look of horror on the face of this Spiritual Sense cultivator.
Because in her line of sight, there was no one there.
Empty.
“How could this be? How is it possible? My perception clearly showed a person there...” Lin Yue leapt to her feet, wanting to go and touch that spot.
But an inexplicable fear made her involuntarily stop.
“Lin-jie, are you alright?” Li Yi asked, curious—her state seemed off.
Lin Yue suddenly grabbed Li Yi’s arm and said: “Li Yi, you said your parents are both Silent Ones, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. What’s wrong? Isn’t that common knowledge?” Li Yi frowned. “I thought I told you last time.”
“Which room are your parents in? Can you take me there?” Lin Yue asked again.
“Alright.” Li Yi was still confused, but he led Lin Yue to his parents’ room.
Inside the room, bright and tidy, two medical pods stood neatly on the floor.
Inside each pod lay one person—a man and a woman.
They were Li Yi’s parents.
Lin Yue stared at the two elders in the pods, her expression shifting uncertainly—clearly, Li Yi’s parents had never awakened; they could not have suddenly left the room and appeared in her perception.
If not Li Yi’s parents, then who was the figure in her perception?
Realizing this, Lin Yue’s unease intensified.
“Li Yi, do you live here alone?” She suddenly turned her gaze to Li Yi.
In her Medium Realm vision, everything in Li Yi’s home appeared normal—Lin Yue saw no anomaly whatsoever.
“Of course. I live in another room. What’s wrong? Lin-jie, ever since you woke from meditation, you’ve seemed off—are you unwell?” Li Yi asked.
Lin Yue asked again: “Recently—no, during the entire time you’ve lived here alone, has anything unusual happened?”
“No,” Li Yi shook his head. “I worked every day, came home, and slept—nothing unusual happened. Lin-jie, if you want to know something, just ask me directly—I’ll answer. You’re making me nervous.”
“Wait a moment—I need to enter meditation again. Stay beside me and wake me up immediately if I show any abnormality.” Lin Yue took a deep breath.
She now suspected that, besides Li Yi’s silent parents, another person was hidden in Li Yi’s home.
Or perhaps it wasn’t a person at all.
Either way, Lin Yue had to find the cause—if there was danger, she would immediately take Li Yi and his parents and leave.
“Alright, I’ll guard around you. Don’t worry.” Li Yi nodded.
Hearing this, Lin Yue took another deep breath, sat down on the nearby bed, closed her eyes, and entered meditation to perceive everything around her.
Quickly.
Spiritual sense was spreading.
Lin Yue perceived the bed beneath her, the man in the medical pod—Uncle Lin—and Li Yi standing beside her... all normal, proving her spiritual sense was functioning correctly—what she had experienced earlier was not an illusion, but real.
Yet when her perception reached the other medical pod.
A strange thing occurred.
The pod belonging to Li Yi’s mother appeared empty in her perception—no one lay inside.
“No, not possible.” Lin Yue froze.
She was bewildered—just moments ago, her eyes had clearly seen Li Yi’s mother sleeping inside the pod—so why, why did her perception show it empty?
Should she trust her eyes, or her spiritual sense?
Yet as she thought this,
Suddenly,
The unknown human silhouette reappeared in Lin Yue’s spiritual sense.
It was near the door.
The silhouette that had stood motionless in the corner now slowly moved toward this room.
And the closer it came, the greater Lin Yue’s fear grew.
Because her spiritual sense was being affected—as if imprisoned, unable to spread further, while her consciousness was locked onto by that terrifying silhouette; she could no longer wake herself from meditation.
And the thing had entered the room, drawing nearer.
The silhouette in her perception passed by Li Yi’s side.
Their magnetic fields intersected.
Yet Li Yi showed no awareness, made no reaction.
“It’s coming for me?” Lin Yue broke into cold sweat, struggling violently, trying to break free from some unseen control and awaken.
But it was useless.
Her body lost sensation; her consciousness seemed already captured.
“Will it kill me?” A thought flashed through Lin Yue’s mind.
Yet at that moment, Li Yi’s voice suddenly reached her ear: “Lin-jie, Lin-jie, wake up...”
That voice seemed to halt the terrifying silhouette.
Simultaneously, the mental lock was released.
Suddenly,
Lin Yue jolted awake from meditation, gasping like a drowning person, eyes wide with terror, breathing heavily, drenched in sweat.
“Li Yi, hurry, leave with me.”
Before she could calm down, Lin Yue grabbed Li Yi’s arm and yanked him toward the door.
“Hey, Lin-jie, wait—what’s going on...”
Confused, Li Yi was dragged out of the house by Lin Yue.
And even after leaving the house, Lin Yue did not let go—she pulled Li Yi downstairs, out of the compound, and only stopped at a busy intersection two or three streets away.
