Chapter 768: Causing a Scene
Li Yi's A-level clearance was indeed highly effective, granting him the right to fly in the air and automatically opening the survival base's energy shield and arrays so he could leave without obstruction.
But upon closer thought, this made perfect sense.
Anyone with such authority must at least be capable of killing a Sky Demon; if this clearance weren't granted, how could immediate support be deployed when a powerful enemy attacked?
Quickly.
Li Yi stepped onto a auspicious cloud and appeared above the survival base.
The base resembled a futuristic steel city, its primary construction material being nanometal—a substance with formidable defensive strength and, most importantly, exceptional self-repair capabilities.
That meant even if the city were attacked, as long as the central AI core remained intact, the buildings would restore themselves in an extremely short time, saving massive post-attack reconstruction efforts.
Yet only the authorities could afford such a massive deployment of nanometal to build an entire city; clearly, they had planned this survival base long ago.
"The cosmic energy here is abundant and nearly untouched by pollution," Li Yi sensed the energy field enveloping the entire city.
And there were twelve energy sources in total.
Meaning twelve complete Wondrous Objects existed within this survival base, arranged into an array that continuously supplied abundant cosmic energy to the entire facility.
Cultivating here was like being inside a Wondrous Object cultivation chamber; ignoring contamination, an Evolver's cultivation speed would be extremely rapid.
"At a time of existential crisis, the authorities must have mobilized all their resources—truly extravagant to use twelve complete Wondrous Objects to form such a vast energy field."
Li Yi couldn't help but whistle in amazement.
Though he himself was wealthy, compared to the authorities he was a mere speck; and this was only what was visible—no one knew how many more complete Wondrous Objects lay hidden beneath the surface.
And this was merely one survival base; there were nine others just like it.
"You there—stop."
Suddenly.
A voice rang out abruptly, and a squad of personnel soared through the air, heading straight for Li Yi's position—clearly patrol officers of the city.
Li Yi halted his auspicious cloud and looked at them.
It was undeniable that Earth's Evolvers had grown vastly stronger; even patrol officers possessed cultivation bases at the Primordial Spirit level, and bore traces of multi-discipline cultivation—undoubtedly formidable, capable of battling Earth Demons outside the base.
"What is it?" Li Yi asked.
The lead man spoke: "I'm Zhang Yiming, patrol officer for this sector. Since I've never seen you before—a member with A-level clearance—I've come to verify your identity. Hope I haven't delayed you."
Li Yi waved his hand. "No problem. Verify away."
Zhang Yiming said: "Thank you for your cooperation. According to the AI database, your name is Li Yi, formerly an external operations officer for the Tianchang City Investigative Division. But your appearance differs slightly from your records—when was your last return to Earth?"
"Today," Li Yi replied. "The appearance discrepancy is due to the system not updating in time—that photo is years old. After cultivation, one's appearance naturally changes."
Zhang Yiming nodded. "That makes sense. But would you mind allowing us to collect a blood sample for genetic testing? You understand—in both the Xuan Immortal Realm and the Demon God Realm, there are methods to alter appearance. Identity cannot be confirmed by looks alone, but genetic testing leaves no room for error."
He gestured, and one patrol officer pulled out a small blood-sampling device capable of performing genetic analysis.
Li Yi said: "I recall there are life-detection instruments that can read biological fluctuations—why collect blood?"
He found this odd, and grew wary, pressing for an explanation.
"Those devices are specialized—we patrol officers aren't equipped with them," Zhang Yiming said. "Li Yi, please cooperate. Just one drop of blood for genetic comparison. Once done, you'll be free to move about the base."
Li Yi thought a moment. "I have no issue cooperating—but I don't know if this base has such a regulation. Could you get your superior to speak with me directly?"
Zhang Yiming's expression darkened. "Our superior is extremely busy—he won't have time for a while."
"Then I'm sorry," Li Yi said. "Without authorization from someone with sufficient clearance, I won't allow my blood to be taken." He possessed the Divine Bloodline.
As one of the few envoys who had survived and escaped from World #36, he remained cautious and refused to surrender his blood recklessly.
Especially now, in this chaotic and turbulent period.
It wasn't distrust of the survival base—it was pure self-preservation.
"If you insist on refusing genetic testing," Zhang Yiming said, "I'm sorry—I cannot permit you to enter the survival base."
Li Yi stared at him.
The patrol officers instantly tensed, instinctively releasing powerful energy fluctuations—as if ready to strike.
After all, anyone with A-level clearance was no weakling.
"Fine," Li Yi said. "If that's how it is, I'll leave this base and not interfere with your duties." He sensed something off about these men, but as an Earth native, he didn't want to clash with official personnel.
So he decided to leave and investigate elsewhere.
"Apologies for wasting your time," Zhang Yiming gestured, allowing Li Yi to depart.
Li Yi, hearing this, didn't linger—he left immediately.
Yet the moment Li Yi had barely flown beyond the base's perimeter.
Zhang Yiming turned back, glanced at the others, and whispered: "Hurry—Li Yi is suspicious. This will be exposed."
The other Evolvers behind him showed flashes of panic, nodded, and swiftly vanished.
At this moment.
As Li Yi flew out of Survival Base #8, he spotted Chen Yi and the others preparing to enter.
He still harbored doubts about the blood-testing demand, and after a moment's thought, decided to ask Chen Yi what was going on.
"Chen Yi."
Li Yi dropped straight down from the sky.
Chen Yi, seeing Li Yi return, was startled.
"I have a question: do newcomers like me need to give blood for genetic testing to enter the survival base?" Li Yi asked directly.
Chen Yi froze, then glanced at his teammates—all of whom shook their heads in confusion.
"What? There's no such rule about blood testing."
Li Yi frowned. "Earlier, I encountered a patrol squad who said they needed to collect my genetic material to verify my identity."
"Impossible," Chen Yi explained. "The base's AI can already identify faces with extreme precision—even most transformation arts can't fool it. Take fingerprints: no matter how powerful the transformation, it can't replicate fingerprints exactly. High-tech detection easily breaks through most illusions—unless you've been possessed."
"And possessed individuals emit abnormal soul fluctuations, which the AI can detect. The base has countless such sensors hidden everywhere, all controlled by the AI. Patrol officers only maintain order—they have no authority to screen for spies."
"Are those patrol officers more advanced than the sixth-generation AI?"
Li Yi's own Lan Ji was only fourth-generation.
This base's AI had already upgraded to sixth-generation.
Li Yi's eyes narrowed slightly. "That man is suspicious."
Instantly, he shifted his form, the auspicious cloud carrying him back into the survival base.
But when Li Yi returned to the exact spot.
Zhang Yiming and his squad had vanished.
"Guilty conscience? Ran off?" Li Yi's expression grew cold.
What was going on in this base?
A suspicious squad had infiltrated and gone unnoticed—what was the AI doing?
Surveillance was everywhere; it couldn't possibly fail to detect them.
Or was it?
Did someone with higher clearance protect them, enabling covert operations?
Of course.
Earthlings were inherently corrupt—even now, in this crisis, they still played games, fought among themselves.
Luckily I was cautious—if not, I'd have handed over my blood.
And if those people got hold of my blood, who knew what they'd do?
Thinking this,
Li Yi, hovering midair, summoned the power of Long Hu and slammed his foot down violently.
Divine power erupted instantly.
The entire base shook violently, alarms blaring nonstop.
But Li Yi wasn't trying to destroy the base—he was creating a disturbance to draw out the powerful figures, forcing a high-level confrontation.
He wouldn't suffer a loss without making his voice heard.
BOOM!
Instantly,
Powerful auras erupted from every corner of the survival base, intense energy waves surging everywhere.
They thought a powerful enemy had invaded and rushed out in alarm.
