Chapter 833: Familiar Feeling

~6 min read 1,168 words

Li Yi, concealed within the clouds and mist, had hidden his form; ordinary people could not see him, and in barely ten seconds, he already saw a bustling city appear in his sight.

He pulled out his phone to check the map and confirmed that this was Dachang City.

After a brief observation, Li Yi was certain the city was normal, with no supernatural incidents, and its population exceeded that of Dazhuang City—meaning it would remain safe for a long time.

If it weren't safe, the residents would have left long ago.

He found a spot and landed directly on a street in Dachang City.

Though the street was crowded with pedestrians, none noticed Li Yi's sudden appearance; he seamlessly blended into the city.

Li Yi had intended to wander around, observe the city, and first understand its situation.

But after walking half a circuit, he realized the city had no overseer—he sensed no unusual aura, meaning he could not use the overseer route to inquire about Yang Jian's whereabouts.

"Could I use the Dream-Weaving Technique?" Li Yi thought to himself.

He was capable of casting large-scale Dream-Weaving, allowing him to question people in their dreams, where they would unconsciously reveal true information.

"Better not. Using large-scale supernatural power might be mistaken for supernatural phenomena—easily inviting unnecessary trouble."

Li Yi decided to find a law firm and use his wealth—once he located someone connected to Yang Jian, he could trace the trail and quickly uncover the truth.

Yet as he passed in front of a building,

Suddenly, he saw a man around thirty being dragged out by a group of security guards.

The man shouted furiously: "What's this joke? I can't even enter my own company? Who the hell is this Manager Wu? Where did he come from? Don't you know who my grandfather is?"

"Mr. Zhang, please stop causing trouble. Yes, you do hold shares in Shangtong Tower, but the company has long severed ties with you. Shareholders withdrew capital, assets were liquidated, debts restructured—we took over your mess as a favor. If you keep causing trouble, I'll have no choice but to call the police."

A man in his fifties, dressed in a sharp suit, spoke with clear impatience.

"You think I'm stupid because I didn't go to school much? All that company money just vanished? All those fixed assets—could your boss even afford to buy them? Make him come out! I want to see the acquisition contract. Yang Xiaohua is my lawyer—I'll have her check it. Miss one cent, and I'll kill you, you dog."

Manager Wu didn't want to argue further; he simply ordered the guards: "Keep him out of the company," then turned and walked away.

"Wu, if you've got guts, don't run!" The man shouted again as the other turned to leave.

But Manager Wu ignored him, quickly disappearing into the building. A dozen guards blocked the entrance, preventing the man from entering.

"You can't stop me. I, Awei, will come back—and then you'll regret this." After a long struggle, the man didn't give up; he threw down a threat and stormed off in fury.

Li Yi had no intention of getting involved, but the man's final words made him stop.

Awei?

He felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity.

For some reason, this man resembled Yang Wei—could he be a relative?

After all, this was Dachang City; such a possibility existed.

Thinking this, Li Yi followed the man and attempted to make contact.

He expected the furious man to do something reckless after leaving—but instead, Li Yi saw him head toward an internet cafe, where a group of idle youths, all around thirty, loitered at the entrance.

"Awei's here."

"Where've you been? We've been waiting for you to treat us. Without you, we can't even afford internet."

These hooligans shared a single cigarette, clearly destitute. "Internet? Your company's been taken over—your boss Awei's about to be unemployed," the man named Awei snapped angrily.

Hearing this, the hooligans froze, then erupted in anger: "What? That's possible? Let's go to the company and make a scene. No one messes with Awei."

"Exactly! We've eaten and lived off you for years—we never felt guilty. Now you're in trouble, I'll help you no matter what."

Surprisingly, these hooligans were loyal; they tossed their cigarette butts, rolled up their sleeves, and prepared to follow Awei to demand justice.

Some even began searching nearby for bricks and steel pipes.

"Wait a minute—don't be so impulsive. What era is this? Still fighting? Use your brains. Your boss is famously resourceful—this isn't the time to use you yet. Go online, calm down, let me think of a plan."

Awei quickly stopped these hotheads.

"Awei, don't shoulder everything alone—speak up, we'll figure it out together," one hooligan said. "We'd die for you."

"Enough, enough—let's just go online, online," Awei said, not explaining further, just pushing them toward the cafe. "Same as always—I'm treating today."

Soon, the group vanished inside the internet cafe.

Li Yi had planned to follow them in, seeking a chance to approach Awei—he was now nearly certain this man was connected to Yang Wei. That personality, that tone of speech—he'd crossed countless worlds and found no second like him.

Yet before he could enter, Awei suddenly returned alone.

The two collided face-to-face.

Awei's expression was calm, serious, and in his hand, inexplicably, was a golden pistol—though he tried to hide it behind his back, Li Yi noticed it.

"Who are you? Why are you following me?" Awei stared at Li Yi.

"Good awareness. Among ordinary people, you're exceptional," Li Yi said.

Awei sneered. "Don't be fooled by my appearance as a jobless middle-aged man—I'm Dachang City's dual-golden-pistol man. Your little trick won't fool me. I bet you've been staking out this cafe for days. Looks like my useless gang exposed me. You're clever, sharp-eyed, sensed the danger radiating from me—so you held back, right?"

"Too bad—you underestimated me. You've lost your chance. Walk away now. Today, I'll pretend nothing happened."

"." Li Yi was momentarily speechless.

This man's thought process seemed off—he'd just lived through a full movie in a few seconds.

Li Yi didn't leave; he cut straight to the point: "You remind me of someone I know. Have you heard of Yang Jian?"

At the name,

Awei's pupils shrank instantly. He stowed the pistol, then quickly moved beside Li Yi, trying to pull him aside.

But Li Yi stood like a towering building—unmovable.

Feeling that inhuman strength, Awei stiffened, then whispered: "Are you from the Supernatural Circle?"

"You could say so," Li Yi replied after a pause. "So you know Yang Jian?"

"Who sent you?" Awei studied Li Yi carefully.

Li Yi said: "That doesn't matter, does it? Judging by your reaction, you're either his relative or friend. I need to find him—can you tell me his whereabouts?"

"I don't even know who you are. Why should I tell you?" Awei said. "But you don't look like an enemy. Let's talk somewhere else."
