Chapter 919: Ancient Remains

~7 min read 1,216 words

With today’s Earth technology, flying into space and landing on the Moon is easy, but space is cold and silent, devoid of anything—coming here serves no purpose beyond satisfying a lunar landing wish.

But as more cultivators emerged on Earth, so did bored ones, leading some to visit the Moon for selfies—and thus discover the contamination problem.

“Sister Lin, stay aboard the Immortal Warship. I’ll grant you access permissions; entering space with your physical body is still risky.” Li Yi stared at the endless universe, stood up, and prepared to leave the Immortal Warship.

“Li Yi, aren’t you taking a risk flying this warship to the Moon in the middle of the night?” Lin Yue asked with concern. “You should communicate with Earth’s high-ups for information, and ideally go with a team.”

“I’m just scouting the situation—I won’t be reckless. Don’t worry, Sister Lin.” Li Yi said.

“Then if you encounter danger, retreat immediately,” Lin Yue said seriously.

Li Yi nodded. “Fine, if there’s danger, I’ll leave. Remember, no matter what happens, don’t leave the Immortal Warship—it can protect you.”

After giving these instructions, he opened the hatch and stepped out.

Instantly.

A powerful sensation of weightlessness, coupled with terrifying decompression, swept over his body; the cold of space held not a trace of warmth, enough to freeze a human into an ice statue.

But that was only true for ordinary mortals.

Li Yi was a cultivator who had forged his body into divinity; his veins did not carry blood, but lightning. He was no longer a carbon-based lifeform—his breathing was merely drawing in spiritual energy from heaven and earth, not air.

Thus, no matter how hostile space was, he could survive.

Soon, Li Yi’s magic power surged, his divine force enveloped him, and all discomfort vanished.

He stepped on mystic light and shot toward the Moon—but not its front side. He headed north, for he had sensed the contamination’s aura emanating from the Moon’s northern hemisphere.

This was a place humans could not easily explore.

Yet as Li Yi scanned the Moon’s surface, he saw traces left by cultivators—there were even soda cans, as if someone had been foolish enough to have a picnic on the Moon.

Indeed, the more cultivators there were, the more bizarre things appeared.

“The contamination is serious. I can feel it—this aura uses the Moon as its array core, the Sun as its energy source, projecting itself across the entire Earth.”

Li Yi descended from space, divine power flowing around him, lightning coiling like a god on a journey.

As he observed his surroundings, he immediately perceived certain secrets.

After all, at this realm, even if Li Yi had read little and lacked cultivation knowledge, he could instinctively grasp some cosmic mysteries and understand how this great array functioned.

Soon.

Li Yi halted his steps. Before him on the Moon’s surface lay the remains of a colossal creature—gray-white, as if corroded by some mysterious force. Yet the remains were peculiar: even in death, they remained intact, impervious to space’s harsh environment.

“That’s a dragon’s remains.”

Li Yi’s gaze swept over it, and his expression hardened.

A true dragon had perished on the Moon’s northern side.

Had this dragon accidentally wandered here and died, or had it been deliberately slain by whoever set up the contamination array?

Unknown.

But from the dragon’s remains’ size, Li Yi could judge its power in life was absolutely terrifying.

He pressed forward.

Li Yi saw other mythological creatures’ remains: a giant, dried bird carcass embedded in the desolate land, feathers fallen, flesh gone—but he was certain this bird was no ordinary creature; it was the legendary phoenix.

“Dragon bones, phoenix corpses—what happened here in the past?” He fell silent.

Too much time had passed; the events of that era could no longer be traced—all traces had been erased by the grand forces of cosmic motion.

Yet the further he went, the stronger the contamination aura became.

Even with his magic power condensed and divine force flowing around him, the contamination steadily eroded him.

If even he, at his current level, suffered this, any other cultivator who came here would surely be utterly contaminated—no one knew what changes that might bring.

“The contamination nearly blocks my perception. If I release my primordial spirit, it will be instantly corrupted. The situation here is dire—I cannot stay long.”

Li Yi had no intention of lingering. He decided to circle the area—if he found nothing, he’d return.

But after passing the dragon’s remains, stepping over the phoenix corpse, and walking further, he noticed human-made path markings on the ground.

Blocks of rock identical to the Moon's material formed a great road, stretching endlessly toward some distant point.

Yet the instant Li Yi stepped on them—

Suddenly—

The ground surged, stones shattered, and a pale, emaciated hand shot up from beneath, trying to grasp his ankle. Li Yi instantly sensed something wrong and leapt upward, evading the bony hand.

“Hmm?” Li Yi frowned.

The next moment—

BOOM!

A silver lightning bolt erupted in space, striking precisely.

The force of this blow was immense—enough to shake the entire Moon.

Yet due to the protection of some great array, Li Yi’s powerful strike only shattered a patch of ground, leaving a charred crater, lacking the expected devastation.

But from within that charred pit, a gray-white, desiccated corpse slowly rose, its hollow eyes emitting black light, its mouth spewing thick contamination aura.

“An ancient cultivator.”

Li Yi stared at the corpse. Its clothing was not modern—it was ancient, older than any dynasty he knew.

This meant Earth likely once had a cultivation era, with cultivators who existed before—now, after the end of the Dharma Age, spiritual energy had merely revived. These remains were probably relics from the previous age.

This ancient corpse had lain buried on the Moon’s far side for countless years. Now awakened, it carried strong malice, its entire body saturated with contamination aura, which had become its power source.

Yet the corpse seemed devoid of intellect—only a wicked instinct remained. Its body swayed unsteadily, as if barely able to stand.

Li Yi did not underestimate it—he grew serious.

“Let’s test this ancient corpse’s strength.” He vanished from his spot in an instant.

The next moment—

Li Yi appeared before the ancient corpse, threw a punch. The power of Dragon and Tiger roared, divine force surged through him—this blow could shake heaven and earth, and without the array’s protection, could shatter the entire Moon.

The corpse reacted instinctively, extending its withered arm and slapping at Li Yi.

A malevolent aura embedded within it erupted, drawing upon the Moon’s array, gathering countless contaminated forces into one point, unleashing unexpected power.

BOOM!

Contamination energy clashed with divine power on the Moon’s far side; immense energy waves rippled through space.

The distant Immortal Warship, hovering afar, was nearly blown away by the shockwave.

In the exchange, Li Yi remained unmoved.

But the ancient corpse’s arm shattered outright—clearly, the corpse was inferior to Li Yi, unable to defeat him.

Yet Li Yi was not pleased.

For he saw the ground ahead begin to rise continuously—as if his presence had disturbed countless ancient remains buried here, awakened by contamination, emerging one after another.

Some of these remains radiated power several times stronger than the previous corpse.
