Chapter 147
Mu Youyu casually took out a book, looked at Jiang Liangjin, "What class later?"
He paused, tone serious: "I don't know, whatever teacher comes, that's the class."
He never cared about the schedule.
Mu Youyu felt his saying that was the same as saying nothing; asking was pointless.
Bai Yun seemed to have heard, turned back: "Math, math! Grades are coming out, I'm definitely getting 134 this time!"
Mu Youyu laughed and responded, then casually pulled out a math book from the stack on the desk.
The class bell rang just then.
Yu Ci and Gu Xingnan walked into the classroom following the bell.
One had a light step, the other a calm expression; they quickly reached the back-row seats.
Yu Ci tossed his bag onto the desk, elbow resting on Gu Xingnan's shoulder, smiling: "Let me tell you big news! Anzhi is coming back next week! Friday at C Shi airport!"
Mu Youyu heard the name Leng Anzhi, surprised: "Are we going to pick her up?"
Leng Anzhi was a close friend they met in first year of junior high; because of poor health she went abroad, and in May Gu Xingnan had said she would return during their sophomore year of high school.
Now they rarely keep in touch.
"Definitely!" Yu Ci nodded, tone firm: "We haven't all gathered in years; we definitely have to go to the airport to intercept her!"
He suddenly turned to Gu Xingnan: "By the way, Nan, shouldn't you take this chance to make things clear with Anzhi? So she doesn't think you still care about that already-annulled broken engagement."
Gu Xingnan's hand holding the book paused, his expression instantly turning complex.
Jiang Liangjin turned his head, saw Gu Xingnan lower his eyelids, hiding his emotions, didn't answer right away, just silently opened his textbook; the atmosphere became a bit subtle.
Yu Ci noticed, quickly tried to smooth things over, probing tone: "No, no, Nan, you and Anzhi already sorted it out, right?"
Gu Xingnan's Adam's apple moved slightly; after a while he squeezed out two words from his throat, voice hoarse: "... Sleep."
"Sleep?" Yu Ci didn't expect him to be tired after sleeping so early last night, but he went along: "Oh, didn't you get enough sleep last night?"
"Yes." Gu Xingnan's voice remained flat.
Seeing the childhood friend slumped over the desk, obviously not wanting to talk more, Yu Ci also sensibly shut his mouth, gave an embarrassed smile, and likewise slumped over the desk: "Alright, alright, get some rest, we'll talk after class."
Mu Youyu looked at Gu Xingnan's only visible head, then at the annoyed Yu Ci, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes.
What's going on?
The engagement matter was already settled; why bring it up again.
She had several question marks in her heart, opened her mouth to ask Jiang Liangjin if he knew the details, but after thinking, she ultimately didn't ask further.
Everyone has their own thoughts; since Gu Xingnan doesn't want to say, pressing further would be inappropriate.
Jiang Liangjin seemed to notice her doubt, quietly reached out and held her hand under the desk.
Mu Youyu turned her head to look at him; he returned a reassuring gaze, gently pinched her fingertip: "Never mind them, let them work it out themselves."
Hearing that, she responded, pulled back her hand, opened her phone drawing app: "Then I'll keep drawing my comic; chapter two of season two is almost done."
Her comic's season two has only released chapter one; mainly she hasn't had much time lately.
Moreover, if it weren't for her best friend Lin Ning wanting to see it, she wouldn't bother drawing.
Jiang Liangjin watched her focused side profile, paused, then softly replied: "Okay, don't overwork yourself."
As his words fell, the math teacher walked in holding a stack of beginning-of-term exam papers, cleared his throat, and said: "This placement exam went fairly well overall, especially our class—two students got perfect scores; let's give them a round of applause."
Applause immediately rang out in the classroom.
"They're still perfect scores!"
"Awesome, awesome; us ordinary folks can only look up."
"Can only say Liangjin ge and Youyu jie are amazing; even if I used high-tech to cheat, I wouldn't dare copy a perfect score—too conspicuous!"
"You still planning to cheat? Even a tech powerhouse isn't used like that—I despise you."
"I despise you too."
"...... I was just talking casually!"
"......"
Mu Youyu, however, didn't really care; she kept her head down, focused on sketching the comic characters' outlines, the pen tip gliding on the paper, lines smooth and delicate, each stroke just right.
On the screen, Lin Yushi reached out to take the booklet, when behind her came the sound of Ye Yuan knocking over a glass cup, shattering...
Mixed with Ye Yuan's repressed low gasp.
She abruptly turned back, seeing the boy frozen in place, his soaked blue short-sleeve clinging to his back, water droplets trailing down from his tightly clenched fingers.
And what surged in his eyes was a panic heavier than before a storm.
"Ye Yuan?" She instinctively stepped forward, the chill at her fingertips making her halt abruptly.
At the observation station's door, fine rain threads drifted, swirling lightly along her skirt—clearly the ability triggered by her earlier fluster over him.
She instinctively stepped back, wanting to calm her emotions and control the rain.
The old station chief slowly put away the logbook, let out a light sigh: "Don't rush to control the rain; first look at him."
Lin Yushi turned her head, just in time to see Ye Yuan stiffly lift his hand, fingertips trembling slightly, as if exerting all his strength.
"Rain..." his Adam's apple rolled, gaze locked on Lin Yushi: "Your hand..."
"Your test paper." Jiang Liangjin reached out and handed the exam paper to Mu Youyu.
She glanced at the score, seeing the big "150," not surprised at all.
After all, this was the one she had written seriously.
"I'm awesome." Mu Youyu nodded, praising herself, about to continue drawing, when Jiang Liangjin's arm lightly bumped her elbow.
She turned her head, saw him push his own test paper toward her; the front likewise bore a bright red 150, placed side by side with hers at the desk corner.
Mu Youyu wasn't surprised, adding: "We're awesome."
Jiang Liangjin obviously felt good from her praise, smiled: "I think so too."
The Xia Chaoyi ahead heard their conversation, immediately turned his head, looking puzzled, 'No, Mu Youyu, Jiang Liangjin, how did you guys get the last big question right? I pondered for ages and had no clue, so I just left it blank.'.
Bai Yun also didn't understand, 'How far have you two gotten in math??'
She has only learned half of the senior year material, and she has never seen this type of last question before.
Mu Youyu lifted her eyes to look at her, tone slightly innocent: 'I don't know? I think it's pretty simple, just follow the train of thought this way, that way and wrote it down.'
Jiang Liangjin nodded lightly beside her, agreeing: 'I think so too.'
Xia Chaoyi, Bai Yun: '……'.
Yu Ci, who just barely made the excellent line: '……'
Everyone who heard the two speaking: '……' Can't compare, can't compare.
'Both are first in the grade.'
The math teacher suddenly called out their names: 'Can you two come up and solve the last big question?'
Mu Youyu was lowering her head drawing comics, when the teacher called her name, she snapped back to attention; Jiang Liangjin beside her turned his head to glance at her, softly asking: 'Shall we go up?'
She nodded, stood up, and smiled toward the podium: 'Sure, teacher.'
Jiang Liangjin went up to the podium a step ahead of her.
Mu Youyu followed behind him, walked to the right side of the podium, picked up another touchscreen pen just as it landed on the electronic screen, when she heard Jiang Liangjin beside her lower his voice: 'Should we each write one method, or both?'
As she lifted her eyes, she happened to meet his gaze, filled with tacit understanding.
Mu Youyu curled the corner of her mouth: 'Of course one method, I'll do the first, you the second.'
'Okay.'
Holding the touchscreen pen, they swiftly slid it across the screen, and the clear solution steps appeared one by one.
The classroom was dead silent; everyone stared at the ever‑increasing characters on the screen, seeing that the two had a clear train of thought and concise, clear steps.
In less than a minute, two different solution methods were fully displayed on the screen.
