Chapter 267

~7 min read 1,303 words

Song Lujing raised an eyebrow, "Brother Yusui, what are you up to?"

He and Mu Xianyan weren't close; they had no contact info and rarely met.

"Just look at Mu Xianyan, ignore them." Song LuXiao also had little interaction with Mu Xianyan.

His attention was wholly on his sister, afraid that the earlier incident would frighten her.

Mu Youyu turned her head to look at Jiang Liangjin, "A Jin, you didn't speak up for me just now."

Fortunately, Mu Xin, who had spoken up, remained silent.

Jiang Liangjin gave a low chuckle, reached out and pinched her cheek, his tone indulgent: "Our Youbao can handle it herself; why would I need to step in? Besides, if I did, wouldn't I be stealing your thunder?"

He knew her too well.

She wasn't the kind of little girl who constantly wanted to hide behind others.

It was just that she usually couldn't be bothered to show it, and taking advantage of their indulgence, she liked to put on a feeble, dependent act.

Thus, when out and about, she sometimes instinctively looked for someone to back her up when trouble arose.

Mu Youyu snorted and turned her face away.

Her face was about to be pinched raw.

Mu Xin, standing nearby, heard that and his eyes flickered slightly.

Was this person implying that he had just stolen the spotlight?

Jiang Liangjin coaxed softly: "Don't be mad, how about I reimburse you for that painting?"

Mu Youyu: "No."

Seeing his sister show that expression toward this person, Song LuXiao was already seething with jealousy.

He instinctively retorted, his tone sour: "Don't take the opportunity to reward yourself—when would it be your turn to get reimbursed?"

He could still afford his sister's pocket money.

Song Lujing sighed, "My poor sister spent 40,050,000 on a painting of herself!"

Mu Youyu hummed twice more, "Who let the brothers jack up the price?"

Otherwise, why would she need to bid on her own painting?

But this was also doing a good deed.

All proceeds from the auction items at this charity gala will be donated to those in need in impoverished mountainous areas.

Mu Xin pulled her toward him, "Still, our Youbao knows how to save money."

Mainly because Mu Youyu didn't want these people to waste money, hearing that made her delighted; she lifted her chin, "Of course."

Meanwhile, in the upstairs lounge.

Mu Xianyan changed her clothes and stood by the window, watching the several figures below gradually recede.

She then turned her gaze to the badge on the table, same style as Mu Xin's but a different color, a flicker of complex emotion flashing in her eyes.

The hand wearing the red string lightly brushed the badge's edge, murmuring softly, as quiet as the light rain outside hitting the ground: "It's fine, I can wait."

Waiting for one, he could see her future.

A knock sounded at the door.

"Come in." Mu Xianyan gathered her emotions.

The door was pushed open, and Mu Xianqi and Song Yusui walked in.

Song Yusui, upon entering, exaggeratedly sighed, took a few steps to stand before her, scanned her up and down, wearing an expression of "anguish and indignation."

"Our poor Xianyan, her nice dress got dirty, and she was publicly embarrassed—it's utterly unjust."

Mu Xianyan's curiosity was piqued by his hesitant, exaggerated act: "Brother Yusui, what's wrong?"

Song Yusui had just opened his mouth to say something when Mu Xianqi beside him cut him off.

Mu Xianqi walked over to the sofa, sat down, and spoke calmly: "That girl is a little fan of your sister, trying to ruin your reputation."

Mu Xianyan had studied violin for years, mingled in elite circles worldwide, knew many people, and her sisters were mostly noble ladies from Y Guo.

She frowned, "Which sister?"

"The lady of the Mancient Marquis Manor."

Mu Xianyan blinked, then realized.

She had studied violin for years and knew many people in that circle.

The young lady from the Mancient Marquis Manor, also the sister of Gesenlun, had met her a few times, but only a nodding acquaintance.

She had constantly tried every way to become her lackey, clinging to her to mooch off her Art Resources and connections, using her fame to boost herself.

Yet she always politely turned her away; no wonder she harbored resentment.

"It's her." Mu Xianyan gave a light chuckle, her red lips curling in disdain: "I thought it was someone else with such audacity."

"She incited her little fan to deliberately cause trouble, hoping to embarrass you publicly and ruin your reputation." Mu Xianqi explained concisely.

Upon hearing this, Mu Xianyan not only didn't get angry, she laughed: "Just this trick? How boring."

When she returns to the country, that person is done for.

Just a little fangirl, right?

She has one too.

Starting in December, the temperature dropped, the wind growing cooler day by day.

The classroom heating was on full blast, keeping out the outside chill.

Bai Yun tucked her head into her scarf, pulled her hood tight, only her round eyes showing: "Even with the heat on, it's still freezing—this damned weather, I feel my hands are about to freeze stiff."

Mu Youyu rested her chin on her hand, gazing at the fine drizzle outside, her tone tinged with ease: "It's really cool today."

Another rainy day.

Jiang Liangjin, sitting beside her, felt a pang of dread upon hearing the two words "cool."

He instinctively reached out, tugged at her jacket that wasn't fully zipped, pulling it as far as it would go, then raised his hand to adjust her hat.

The soft hat covered most of Mu Youyu's face, half her eyes blocked by the brim.

"A Jin, what are you doing?" she said, lifting a hand to tug at the hat, revealing her bright eyes.

"Don't get cold." Jiang Liangjin said gently, thoughtfully smoothing her hair.

"It's only six degrees now!" Mu Youyu protested softly, yet she didn't take off the hat.

"It's icy cold, six degrees is cold." Jiang Liangjin said, then seemed to remember something, reaching for the scarf in the drawer.

Carefully he wrapped it around her neck, looping it round and round, tying a nice knot.

Mu Youyu was bundled up tightly by him, she looked at him helplessly, "Are you treating me like a child?"

Jiang Liangjin let out a low laugh, his voice extremely soft: "Yes, little one, I'm going to the office for a bit, I have some things to handle. Stay put in the classroom, don't run around, and don't let your clothes and scarf slip down, okay?"

Bai Yun, sitting in front, had been shivering with her neck tucked in; hearing this, she fell silent.

She had thought Jiang Liangjin's last sentence would be something domineering like "Did you hear me?"

The early-arriving classmates of Class A were simply unbearable to watch.

Mu Youyu blinked, saw the sincerity in his eyes, and obediently nodded, "Got it."

Bai Yun saw Jiang Liangjin leave the classroom, looked at her like that, and couldn't help but come over, "Tsk tsk, Young Master Jiang treats you completely differently from how he treats others."

Mu Youyu lifted her chin, her tone a little smug yet she tried to stay calm, "It's not the first time you've known."

"Fine."

Bai Yun chuckled, recalling a few amusing pieces of information she'd seen lately, her eyes lit up, she leaned in, lowered her voice, with a hint of mystery.

"Do you still remember what I told you at the beginning, that Young Master Jiang got punched by your older brother?"

Mu Youyu had almost forgotten that incident, after all her older brother and A Jin have always been on good terms.

She stared blankly, "Huh? What's up?"

Bai Yun's face was full of gossip, "Do you know why?"
