Chapter 40: We're not acquainted, are we?

~7 min read 1,298 words

Arriving at the hospital, the group came to the door of the ward where Jiang Ji was.

The door wasn't open, so everyone could only wait outside.

Uncle Jiang Huan frowned, dissatisfied: "Wasn't it said that A Ji woke up?"

Third Uncle comforted: "Elder brother, wait a moment."

After a moment of silence, the ward door opened.

Jiang Yun rushed in first, and the others followed closely.

Jiang Liangjin didn't step forward, leaning against the door, he stopped a nurse: "May I ask how the person inside got to the hospital?"

To be honest, today he doesn't even know what happened to Jiang Ji; he gathered all the busy members of the Jiang family together.

The nurse spoke concisely: "Car accident."

Jiang Liangjin raised an eyebrow, lifted his foot, and stepped into the ward.

At this moment, Jiang Ji was leaning quietly against the hospital bed, his complexion slightly pale, with obvious abrasion marks on his cheeks.

Both his right hand and right foot were fixed with thick plaster casts.

Jiang Liangjin's gaze swept over him, finally resting on his head wrapped in bandages.

A flicker of doubt passed through his eyes.

Jiang Ji is a few months older than him, only seventeen this year, idle at home, often going out to hang around.

Given Jiang Ji's driving skills, such a serious accident shouldn't have happened.

Unless someone did it deliberately.

Jiang Liangjin slightly raised his brow.

Jiang Ji had an accident, and the Jiang family came to his house……

Oh, so they were waiting for him here.

Cheng Siqing's eyes reddened, she gripped Jiang Ji's hand and choked: "A Ji, don't go out riding alone from now on."

When she heard the news, she nearly fainted on the spot.

Jiang Ji and Jiang Siqian are both her dear ones.

Not a single one can come to harm.

Jiang Ji's voice weak: "Mom, I'm fine."

Those around crowded forward to ask after his warmth and cold, only Jiang Liangjin stood where he was, his expression indifferent.

"A Jin…" Jiang Ji saw Jiang Liangjin, thinking of his father Jiang Huan's order, he weakly called out.

Jiang Liangjin spoke frankly: "We're not acquainted, are we?"

Upon hearing that, Jiang Ji's expression didn't fluctuate much; he just lightly sighed and said: "It's just an accident, A Jin… Liangjin came to see me."

Then, the always silent Jiang Huan seized the moment, speaking to accuse: "Jiang Liangjin, A Ji kindly called out to you, what do you mean by saying that?"

Jiang Ji coughed twice: "Dad, don't blame Liangjin, it's my own carelessness…"

Jiang Yun sat by the bedside, following his father Jiang Huan's intent, glaring fiercely at Jiang Liangjin, his tone sharp:

"The person who hit A Ji would rather die than yield, refusing to reveal who's behind it. I see your expression so calm, as if you already knew! Perhaps it was you who had someone hit A Ji!"

"Without evidence, don't wrongly accuse good people." Jiang Liangjin replied coldly.

He came to see Jiang Ji, hasn't scolded anyone, what a good person.

Jiang Yun pressed aggressively: "If it wasn't you, how could you be so calm?"

"I'm not familiar with him to begin with, why can't I be calm?" Jiang Liangjin snorted, looking innocent.

"Jiang Yun!" Jiang Su shouted in a low voice to stop him.

Jiang Yun snorted coldly, ignored him, and said to Jiang Liangjin: "Don't think I don't know; since Grandfather passed the family head position to your father, you've always borne a grudge against our family!"

Jiang Liangjin's mouth curled into a mocking smile: "That's a funny thing to say; the family head position is my father's, why would I hate you little brats… The family head position belongs to the capable; you're inferior, who can you blame?"

Jiang Siqian: "Yo, there's a good show to watch."

Although Jiang Yun and Jiang Ji are her brothers by blood, in her household only her mother treats her well.

In the Jiang family she is an unfavored young lady, with little presence.

When they were young, Jiang Yun and Jiang Ji liked to snatch her things, and their father, favoring sons over daughters, always took the brothers' side.

Thus, she has no feelings for anyone other than her mother Cheng Siqing.

Jiang Yizhu's eyes shone as she stared at Jiang Liangjin, "Well…"

Jiang Yining heard what she wanted to say, quickly pulling her into his embrace, whispering: "Zhu Bao, don't speak yet."

He knew well that the Jiang Huan family was ruthless, fearing they might strike at Zhu Bao.

"All right." Jiang Yizhu leaned against her brother's embrace, obediently speaking.

Then, the always silent Fourth Uncle spoke: "Enough, you all say a bit less! The urgent task is to find the perpetrator."

Jiang Liangjin sneered inwardly.

It seems to him, this is nothing but a self-directed self-performed act.

Jiang Huan patted Jiang Yun's shoulder, signaling him to calm down.

Jiang Ji spoke again: "Liangjin, you being able to come see me makes me happy."

Having said that, he revealed a smile.

Jiang Liangjin felt a surge of speechlessness; this person really can endure, he doesn't want to have too many entanglements with this family.

Jiang Huan's eyes flashed with a hint of sinister: "A Ji is speaking to you!"

"Oh." Jiang Liangjin indicated he understood.

Jiang Su frowned and interrupted: "Behave yourselves! Jiang Huan, don't think I don't know your little tricks behind the scenes; I, considering you my elder brother, have tolerated you several times!"

He glanced at Jiang Huan, then continued: "This time Jiang Ji had an accident, A Jin stayed home from school without blaming you! I and A Jin also came out of goodwill to see Jiang Ji, yet you push the blame onto him?"

Jiang Huan snorted coldly and said nothing; if not for this younger brother of his, everything of the Jiang Family would have been his in the future!

A long silence followed.

Jiang Huan's phone rang; he picked it up and glanced at it, a flicker of unusual emotion crossing his eyes.

The police sent word: the person who struck Jiang Ji suffered cerebral hemorrhage and died instantly; Yu Cheng and Jiang Ji were both hit by the same car.

Jiang Huan's pupils flickered slightly.

……Dead?

Hearing Yu Cheng's name, Jiang Liangjin lifted his head slightly.

Jiang Yun frowned, "How did he die?"

He asked, "Jiang Ji, did you go out to play with Yu Cheng again today?"

Jiang Ji drank the water Cheng Siqing had fed him, "Yes."

Cheng Siqing couldn't help but frown, her tone clearly dissatisfied: "I've told you not to get too close to the Yu Family's illegitimate child, yet you're still playing with him?"

Yu Cheng is no good, and he's an illegitimate child to boot!

Cheng Siqing continued to advise: "Jiang Ji, Mom isn't trying to restrict you; it's just that Yu Cheng doesn't look like a good person at first glance, so listen to Mom and stay away from him from now on—don't have any more contact with him, okay?"

Jiang Ji replied offhandedly, "Got it."

Obviously, he didn't take his mother's words to heart.

She smiled gently, her eyes warm, "Mom won't harm you."

Jiang Liangjin stood to the side, feeling bored; he lowered his head and glanced at the time—it was already 11 o'clock.

Thinking of someone still waiting for him, he immediately turned to his father beside him, "Dad, I'm leaving first."

Jiang Su also wanted to go out; he turned to look at Jiang Huan, "A Jin and I are leaving first; there's still a lot to do at the company."

Jiang Huan didn't say much, just gave a slight nod to indicate he understood.

Afterwards, the father and son rose together and headed toward the hospital entrance.
