Chapter 416: No Need to Compare With Me
The boy met Lu Yuchu's indifferent gaze, and the words he had about to say were swallowed back.
"No, Young Master Lu, we didn't mean it like that……"
"Then what do you mean?"
The boy's face flushed red again, and he stammered, unable to speak.
Seeing this, the companion beside him hurried forward, offering an apologetic smile, "Young Master Lu, we were just speaking casually, we really didn't mean anything else."
Lu Yuchu glanced at him indifferently, his eyes calm yet exuding an intimidating presence; the person immediately shut his mouth.
The boy finally regained a bit of confidence, "Young Master Lu, we really were just chatting casually, with no ill intent……"
Lu Yuchu didn't respond, merely lowered his eyes, picked up the untouched glass of water on the table, and turned it in his hand.
The boy thought he was going to splash him, and instinctively shrank back.
Lu Yuchu set the glass down, "Do you think Jiang Liangjin isn't good enough for my sister?"
"No, no!" several people waved their hands repeatedly.
"Then do you think he is suitable?"
Silence.
To say yes would be wrong, to say no would be even more wrong.
Lu Yuchu waited patiently for a moment, seeing no one speak, he spoke again: "So you're just jealous of his good fortune?"
His blunt words left several young people embarrassed, yet none dared to retort.
The boy stared at his stunning looks and forced out a few sincere sentences: "Young Master Lu, I just feel…… you're far superior to Young Master Jiang—better family background, handsome, talented in acting and singing, with so many fans, he simply can't compare to you……"
Upon hearing this, Lu Yuchu's expression finally changed—not pleasure from praise, but boredom—"Are you done?"
The boy blinked, then nodded hesitantly: "I—I'm done."
A flicker of faint pity crossed Lu Yuchu's eyes, "You say he can't match me, and you think I'm better than him?"
The boy nodded frantically.
Lu Yuchu's eyes turned cool and detached, "He simply doesn't need to be compared to me."
The boy's lips moved, as if he wanted to explain something, but Lu Yuchu had lost interest in saying more and turned to leave.
After two steps, he stopped again, glanced sideways at the boy, "By the way, you just said your family's business has no dealings with the Jiang clan?"
The boy nodded with a stiff neck.
Lu Yuchu let out an "oh," "Then you'd better hope it stays that way in the future."
"Also, next time you gossip about someone, keep your voice down—you can be heard two tables over, it's really embarrassing."
After he left, the table stayed silent for over ten seconds before someone whispered, "Aren't you a fan of Young Master Lu? Why didn't you speak up just now?"
The boy's face turned red, his voice muffled: "I… I forgot."
"As a fan, you can't even speak when you see the idol himself."
"No, his presence is too overwhelming, I got nervous; if I'd known, I wouldn't have drawn his attention like this, I thought his sister complex would make him happy……"
"Alright, alright, stop talking, hurry up and eat, then leave after you're done."
"……"
As the event ended, guests left one after another, and the hall gradually emptied.
Shen Ningmu stood at the door seeing guests off, her smile never ceasing.
After seeing off the last batch of guests, she let out a long breath, turned her head toward Jiang Liangjin not far away, "Son, you did well today."
Jiang Liangjin was helping Mu Youyu with her coat; hearing this, he didn't even turn his head, "Mm."
Shen Ningmu didn't mind, "There's still a small gathering at home tonight for the kids; I won't get involved."
"Got it."
Shen Ningmu then turned to Mu Youyu, her expression and tone instantly softening: "Ah You, have fun tonight, stay at the Jiang family's place, no one will disturb you."
The evening's venue was the Jiang family home; Mu Youyu obediently replied, "Okay, thank you, Aunt."
Shen Ningmu satisfiedly turned to find Jiang Su, and together they prepared to go to the ancestral home.
The elders said their goodbyes and left; Mu Nian exchanged a few words with his sister before heading out first.
Mu Youyu and Jiang Liangjin stood together, chatting with Mu Xi, Mu Xin, and Song Lujing; the atmosphere was relaxed.
Song LuXiao stood aside, hesitating for a long time, unable to find a suitable moment to speak; watching the people around him dwindle, he finally stepped forward, "Youbao."
Mu Youyu lifted her head, tilted it, "LuXiao gege?"
After pondering, Song LuXiao realized he actually had nothing to say, "Nothing, just calling you."
Song Lujing followed behind, interjecting, "He's had some alcohol, his head isn't clear; sis, don't pay attention to him."
"I haven't drunk much," Song LuXiao retorted, glaring at him.
Song Lujing couldn't be bothered to argue, stood where he was, looking this way and that, then raised his hand and suddenly blurted, "Can I stay over?"
Mu Xi, standing beside the sister, bluntly replied, "No."
"Why?"
"No reason."
Song Lujing wilted, "Fine……"
Mu Youyu comforted him, "Song Lujing gege, we'll see each other tomorrow."
Song Lujing bounced back to full health, "See you tomorrow, see you tomorrow!"
Mu Xi really couldn't stand his clingy behavior, grabbed his collar and dragged him toward the door without explanation, "Come on, let's go."
Being dragged away, Song Lujing still shouted, "Sis, see you tomorrow! A Jin, see you tomorrow!"
Jiang Liangjin watched his antics, the corner of his mouth twitching upward.
"Alright, let's go out." Mu Xi urged, "Any further delay will cut into the sister's homecoming time!"
Mu Xin nodded, walked a few steps with them, turned his head to glance at his sister still talking with Jiang Liangjin, wanted to say something, but ultimately just averted his gaze.
Song Lujing came over, "Xi ge, didn't you say you wanted to leave? Are you leaving or not?"
"Leave." Mu Xi withdrew his gaze, turned and walked out.
When he reached the doorway, his steps paused slightly, he turned his head to look at the brother following behind, his tone worlds apart from how he spoke to Song Lujing: "Won't you say a couple more words?"
Mu Xin happened to be lowering his head to reply to a message; hearing that, he lifted his head: "Nothing to say."
Song Lujing muttered beside him: "Just keep pretending, who was staring blankly for a while just now?"
Mu Xin glanced at him, Song Lujing immediately changed his tone, grinning: "Hey! Who was just talking about our Xinbao?"
"You." Mu Xi pulled Mu Xin and took the lead stepping out.
Only Mu Youyu, Jiang Liangjin, and a few brothers who hadn't left remained in the hall.
Mu Xianqi sat on the chair, head down looking at his phone; the screen showed a message from Ruo Ya asking if he had time for a video call that evening, something important.
Mu Xianqi, lacking interest, replied "Later," then lifted his head to look at his sister: "Youbao, shall I send you home tonight?"
"No need, the driver will do." Mu Youyu laughed and declined: "Xianqi gege, go get busy."
Mu Xianqi didn't insist: "Alright, send me a message when you get home."
"Okay."
Jiang Liangjin stood aside silent, secretly wondering: she might not necessarily return to the Mu family tonight.
