Chapter 419: What's More Important to You

~7 min read 1,359 words

Lin Ning pointed at Xu Shu, "That person feels about the same as Ye Zeli to me—warm and hesitant. I can't catch Ye Zeli, but if it really comes down to it, he'll do."

Xu Shu's appearance isn't extremely striking, but he's the type that catches your eye and is pleasant to look at.

Mu Youyu frowned, her voice softening: "I don't know him; let's wait a few days to see his character before deciding—don't be rash."

Lin Ning didn't care, speaking casually: "It's not serious, so why bother about his character or lack thereof?"

Jiang Liangjin, standing nearby, listened to their conversation and explained: "He's from B Shi; he doesn't usually stay around here."

Lin Ning gave up, glanced at Lu Huan standing beside Leng Anzhi, and her eyes lit up again: "Actually, Lu Huan isn't bad either. At first you didn't transfer into our class; back in elementary school we were desk mates. I never expected him to change so much—he's gotten a lot better-looking than he was as a kid."

Mu Youyu looked at her, her eyes dazzled, and couldn't help but say: "... You and Ye Zeli actually still have a chance to work things out."

Jiang Liangjin didn't know what to say; if it were his friend, he'd have already made a sarcastic remark.

Lin Ning sighed again, her face falling: "No way—I've already said it out loud; can't he just lower himself a bit to coax me? Straight guys are really infuriating."

Mu Youyu heard her friend's exasperated tone and laughed: "When you first chased him, didn't you already know he was like this?"

Lin Ning covered her forehead with one hand, full of regret: "Back then I was young and clueless."

"Ningning's been young and clueless for three years?"

"Can't you stop ruining my fun?" Lin Ning reached out and pinched her cheek, "Aren't we the best pair in the world?"

Mu Youyu, being pinched, spoke muffled: "Yes, yes, yes, of course."

Lin Ning finally let go, satisfied, glanced over at Lu Huan again, quickly looked away, picked up the juice in front of her and gulped it down, sighing.

"Sigh, just thinking about it makes me feel it's a shame."

Mu Youyu spoke up to comfort her; Jiang Liangjin didn't interject—he wasn't curious about others' affairs.

The two chatted a few more lines; Lin Ning let it go easily, quickly tossed her worries aside, picked a grape from the fruit plate on the table and popped it into her mouth.

"Don't worry about me—I'm really fine, just feel it's a bit of a shame. It's not like I can't live without him; there are plenty of two-legged men out there."

After saying that, her gaze drifted to the pool area; Xu Shu was holding a cue, his bent-over stance still quite proper, and with a stroke the ball went straight into the pocket.

A few nearby people clapped and cheered; Xu Shu laughed, straightened up, turned his head this way, and his eyes met Lin Ning's.

He gave a polite smile, then turned back to continue playing.

Lin Ning withdrew her gaze and whispered to Mu Youyu: "He still looks pretty good when he smiles."

"How are you looking at him again?" Mu Youyu said helplessly, "You just said there are plenty of two-legged guys out there."

"Yeah, don't you think he's way better than other two-legged guys?"

Lin Ning thought contentedly, "If we're in B Shi, then B Shi it is—she isn't much of a reader, so she can often go find him."

"..."

Jiang Liangjin interjected, breaking Lin Ning's reverie: "He has a girlfriend."

Lin Ning's smile faltered: "Huh? Really?"

"Really, in B Shi they're doing great."

Lin Ning immediately looked away: "Then forget it—I won't be the third wheel."

Mu Youyu let out a breath of relief and found it funny.

Lin Ning's personality is to fall fast and move on fast; when she first chased Ye Zeli, it was the same—she rushed in head over heels with great enthusiasm, and now saying she'll let go is just as decisive.

The crowd in the hall gradually grew, people gathering in twos and threes to chat, play ball, and mess around with games; the atmosphere was relaxed.

Yu Ci dominated the pool area, winning several rounds in a row, and proudly showed off to Gu Xingnan: "See? That's skill!"

Gu Xingnan's lips curled: "Yeah, skill."

Yu Ci was a bit annoyed by his bland reaction: "Can't you show a little excitement?"

Gu Xingnan clapped: "Very excited."

"Where are you excited?"

Gu Xingnan didn't speak, just pulled out his phone from his pocket, opened the camera, and snapped a photo of him.

Yu Ci was blinked by the flash, stunned: "What are you doing?"

"Recording your highlight moment."

Yu Ci was choked by his deadpan remark, looked away: "You're sick."

Xu Shu stood nearby watching the two, smiled, glanced toward the sofa area, then stepped forward and said: "Your sister-in-law's friends are pretty interesting."

Jiang Liangjin gave a low cough, instinctively glanced at Mu Youyu beside him, saw she wasn't paying attention, and quietly reminded: "Don't call her sister-in-law."

Xu Shu corrected himself: "Okay, okay, the little princess's friends are all quite colorful."

"Hmm." Jiang Liangjin couldn't be bothered to correct his term of address.

"What's the name of that black long straight-haired girl?"

Jiang Liangjin followed his gaze and glanced over: "Bai Yun."

"Taken?"

Jiang Liangjin's expression was indifferent: "Aren't you already dating someone?"

Xu Shu spread his hands: "I'm just asking; it's not like I'm doing anything—having a girlfriend doesn't mean you can't appreciate beauty."

"No."

"Fine, fine, you decide—I won't ask anymore." Xu Shu, taking the hint, shut his mouth and turned back to play pool.

Mu Youyu caught the gist of their conversation behind them: "Why is he interested in everyone? He seems pretty unreliable."

"I feel the same," Jiang Liangjin first agreed with the childhood friend, then said: "He's just like that—sharp-tongued but not a bad person."

Lin Ning suddenly remembered something, pulled a small box from her pocket and pushed it toward Jiang Liangjin: "Oh right, birthday present—I almost forgot."

Jiang Liangjin took it: "Thanks."

"You're welcome." Lin Ning waved her hand: "It's just something not cheap, not too thoughtful—don't look down on it."

"……" Not cheap, valuable, but no thought?

Mu Youyu: "Her guess is the opposite, right?"

"No way." Jiang Liangjin set it on the table aside, Lin Ning didn't care either, turned his head, said something to Mu Youyu, and went to play pool.

From the pool area occasional cheers rose; Yu Ci and Xu Shu were locked in a match, each game going back and forth.

Bai Yun and her group huddled together, not knowing what to do.

Leng Anzhi stood by the window, holding a cup of juice; Lu Huan stood beside her, and they chatted on and off.

Mu Youyu looked at everyone in the room, suddenly finding it interesting, and tilted her head to glance at Jiang Liangjin beside her.

The boy lowered his head to look at his phone; the screen showed a message from Jiang Su, probably asking how his evening went and whether he had taken good care of Ah You.

He replied with a few short words, then put his phone away; sensing her gaze, he turned his head and asked, "What's up?"

Mu Youyu felt a bit unnatural, "Did you open your presents at noon?"

Jiang Liangjin's lips curled, "Of course, I opened yours first."

Of all the gifts everyone sent, he only opened the two from Mu Youyu.

He secretly worried she might still sneak another small gift, so he left the rest untouched, planning to deal with them tomorrow.

Mu Youyu was surprised, "Did you only open mine?"

Jiang Liangjin didn't hesitate, "We'll talk about the others tomorrow."

"Why?"

"Because yours is more important."

"Yo yo yo." Lin Ning suddenly popped out from behind Mu Youyu, drawing out his tone.

Seeing several people looking this way, Mu Youyu quickly averted her gaze and made a motion to hit her.

Jiang Liangjin's mouth corner twitched slightly, and he didn't continue the topic.
