Chapter 422: Do you even deserve to get close to her?

~7 min read 1,295 words

"I'm the young lady's bodyguard." The cleaning lady shoved the mop to the ground, hands on her hips, "Answer me, what do you want with the young lady?"

Jiang Yan was taken aback, then lifted his head to look her up and down.

The gray full-set cleaning uniform made her look like an ordinary cleaner at first glance—except… her height was above average.

"Don't lie, a bodyguard?" He didn't believe it at all, curling his lip, "When did Nan Feng's cleaners start meddling in students' affairs? I…"

The cleaning lady didn't respond, just rolled her neck left and right, twisted her wrists, joints cracking, and her aura shifted.

Jiang Yan immediately gave up, "I-I just… was passing by, wanted to say hello."

"Oh." The cleaning lady had observed him for days—this guy was truly lewd, intentionally harassing the young lady!

She flexed her wrist, "Done fighting?"

"F-finished."

"Then you can go." She stepped aside and made a gesturing motion.

Jiang Yan was utterly unwilling!

He had waited so many days, finally catching Jiang Liangjin and Mu Xi's group absent, mustered courage to approach and speak, only to be brushed off by a cleaning lady?

Jiang Yan met her gaze, suddenly shivered, turned and left; after a few steps he couldn't help glancing back in the direction he'd been looking at.

The little princess had disappeared at some point… oh well, there'll be another day.

Mu Youyu had just reached the bottom of the teaching building when a hand suddenly shot out from the side, blocking her and the newcomer, "Miss Mu!"

She reacted instantly, darting aside, and looked up to see Jiang Yan panting as he caught up, his face still flushed with excitement.

Jiang Yan didn't want to wait for another day, so he pursued her again.

Mu Youyu stepped back, her face calm, but impatience already showed in her eyes.

How is it him again? A persistent nuisance.

Seeing she didn't speak, Jiang Yan thought there was a chance, took another half-step forward, hands in pockets, trying to look nonchalant, "Miss Mu, what a coincidence, we meet again."

Psycho.

Mu Youyu moved left, he followed; she yielded right, he followed right, blocking her path, not giving an inch.

"What exactly do you want?"

Jiang Yan gave an embarrassed smile, "I just wanted to say a few words; last time at the Jiang residence I didn't get the chance……"

"Nothing to say." Mu Youyu turned sideways, trying to go around him.

Jiang Yan grew desperate, reaching to grab her arm, but before his hand touched her, a gust of force struck from the side, seizing his wrist.

Pain shot through him; his arm was twisted backward behind his back, forcing his body to bend, his face nearly touching the ground.

"Ah! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!"

A cool, indifferent voice came from above: "Which hand of yours wanted to touch her?"

He struggled to lift his head, meeting a pair of cold, aloof eyes.

Jiang Liangjin had somehow already stood beside Mu Youyu, one hand loosely shielding her in front, the other just retracting from his wrist.

Mu Youyu looked at the suddenly appearing boy, stunned for a moment, "Aren't you supposed to be at a meeting? How did you get back so fast?"

"It ended early, I came to find you." Jiang Liangjin smiled at her, his gaze turning to the outsider, the corner of his mouth curling in a half-smile.

Jiang Yan felt his scalp tingle under that gaze, instinctively wanting to flee, but before he could step forward, his collar was grabbed, his heart sinking halfway, "Jiang… Young Master Jiang……"

Jiang Liangjin tightened his grip, Jiang Yan could barely speak, "I didn't touch her, I just wanted……"

"What did you want?" Jiang Liangjin sneered, "Were you looking to die?"

The hidden bodyguard silently retreated.

Jiang Liangjin's gaze fixed on the person he was twisting, Jiang Yan gasped from the pain, still trying to explain: "I really didn't touch her, I just wanted to say a few words to Miss Mu……"

"Do you deserve it?" Jiang Liangjin released his grip on his arm.

Before Jiang Yan could steady himself, a punch landed on his cheek, sending him stumbling two steps sideways into the wall.

"Young Master Jiang, you!" He covered his face, incredulous that he'd be hit at school.

Jiang Liangjin didn't give him a chance to speak, stepped forward and struck again; Jiang Yan was slammed into the wall, bounced back, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

He panicked, raising a hand to strike back, but before his fist could swing, Jiang Liangjin kicked his shin, throwing him off balance and he collapsed to his knees.

Jiang Liangjin looked down at him, completing his earlier remark: "Do you even deserve to get close to her?"

Jiang Yan crawled to the ground, covering his bloody nose, his voice muffled: "I-I just……"

Jiang Liangjin didn't let him finish, kicked him again; Jiang Yan curled up, closing his mouth.

Mu Youyu watched the whole scene, her feelings slightly disturbed.

She hadn't never seen Jiang Liangjin fight; when they were in kindergarten, someone pulled her braid, he rushed over and slammed the person to the ground to beat them.

Back then he was four, his strength not great but his presence formidable; supposedly he frightened that little boy into crying all day.

Later he rarely lifted a hand, always appearing polite and well-behaved in front of outsiders, as if nothing could ruffle him.

After the turmoil, a wave of nauseous dizziness welled up; Mu Youyu turned her face away, tugged at Jiang Liangjin's sleeve, "Stop hitting."

"Received." Jiang Liangjin immediately eased his stance, inadvertently blocking her view.

Jiang Yan's body ached too much to rise, and he didn't dare lift his head; the two stood still, Jiang Liangjin occasionally kicking him.

Soon it drew a crowd of students getting ready to go home.

"Isn't that Young Master Jiang? Why is he hitting someone? Who's that person on the ground? He looks unfamiliar."

"Looks like a senior transfer student, surname Jiang, same as Young Master Jiang."

"Same surname? Then why are they fighting?"

"You're stupid—same surname doesn't mean same family."

"True… but why did Young Master Jiang suddenly lash out?"

"Didn't you see the Mu family's young lady standing nearby? Surely that guy provoked her."

"……"

"What's going on?"

Yu Ci's voice came from behind; he and Gu Xingnan had just come out of the classroom, preparing to go home, and from afar they saw a few people gathered around the corner of the teaching building.

Upon closer look, what came into view was a person curled up on the ground, as well as the familiar Jiang Liangjin and Mu Youyu.

"How can you just sleep like that." Yu Ci looked around at the surrounding students, moved closer to Jiang Yan on the ground, recognized that face, furrowed his brows, "Yo, this person isn't that so-and-so!"

"Hmm." Jiang Liangjin didn't elaborate.

Gu Xingnan glanced at him, and Mu Youyu hiding behind him almost understood the reason.

Yu Ci came over, lowered his voice and asked Mu Youyu, "Youbao, what did he do? A Jin, why are you so angry?"

Mu Youyu didn't really want to say more, and replied vaguely: "It's a long story."

Yu Ci didn't press further, speculating to himself: "Surely he deserved a beating; A Jin usually doesn't get physical with people."

Gu Xingnan gave a hint: "When was the last time he got physical?"

Yu Ci thought for a moment: "Seems like it was still at the start of the school term."

Gu Xingnan gave him a look, Yu Ci understood, glanced at Jiang Yan on the ground still twitching and covering his face, "That indeed serves him right."
