Chapter 461: From which country did they set out?

~7 min read 1,385 words

What does this 'person' refer to in the present context? Mu Youyu understood as soon as she heard it.

It's just that her cousin usually maintains a neither close nor distant attitude toward anyone.

Even though Grandfather Mu, his paternal uncle, and grandmother had urged him to marry several times, he remained unmoved—then suddenly he brought someone to the door, which truly surprised everyone.

Jiang Liangjin also moved closer.

"Who is it?" she couldn't help but ask.

Grandfather Mu kept her in suspense, saying, "You'll know when you come. Hurry up, hurry up, tell the driver to speed up, and watch the road for safety."

Having said that, he hung up without waiting for her reply.

Mu Youyu turned to look at Jiang Liangjin, who had obviously overheard most of her conversation with Grandfather Mu, and raised his eyebrows slightly, saying, "Did Brother Xianqi bring back a girlfriend?"

Mu Xi looked over, and Mu Youyu herself wasn't entirely sure either, saying, "Grandfather didn't make it clear; he just said he was bringing someone back and told us to come over."

She paused, then added doubtfully, "He hadn't hinted at anything before—I even thought he planned to stay single forever."

Mu Xi fished out the car keys and said, "Let's go, get in the car first."

Song Lujing followed behind him, wearing a look of eager anticipation, and said, "Come on, come on, let's see what kind of deity Brother Qi has brought back."

The four got in the car, and Mu Xi drove a bit faster than usual, though not to the point of speeding.

As the car entered the Mu family's old residence, Mu Youyu noticed several vehicles at the gate, all with familiar license plates, but she didn't see Brother Xianqi's car.

They all went in and saw many people seated in the living room.

Mu Nian and Mu Xin sat together, holding their phones as if they were handling affairs.

Song Yusui and Lu Yuchu sat side by side; the former had his legs crossed in a relaxed, expectant pose, while the latter sat upright.

Song Yan was turning a pair of sunglasses in his hand.

Song Lujing followed Mu Youyu inside, found a corner seat, and sat down.

Seeing his granddaughter, Grandfather Mu's smile deepened; he waved and called, "Youbao, come quickly, sit beside Grandfather."

Uncle Mu's expression matched.

Mu Youyu obediently walked over and sat beside him; Jiang Liangjin naturally took the seat on her other side, and Mu Xi sat next to him.

The whole family gathered around, filling the living room to capacity.

"Grandfather, where is the person Brother Xianqi brought?" Mu Youyu glanced around, seeing no sign of Brother Xianqi, not even his car at the gate.

Grandfather Mu smiled reservedly, "I haven't seen him either. He said he's on the way; he just called and said he'll be here soon."

He added, his voice tinged with barely concealed anticipation, "He also said we'll definitely like whoever he brings. This kid has always made his own decisions since childhood; this time he's learned to keep us in suspense."

Uncle Mu feigned helplessness but was actually delighted, saying, "I don't even know who it is; he only brought someone back now. I've urged him so many times, and he always said there's no rush, but this time he's actually brought the person right to the door."

Although Brother Xianqi is not his biological son, he is the son of a close friend who went through life-and-death experiences together; he has been taken in since childhood, and their bond is even deeper than that of a father and son.

He wants to see this child settle down more than anyone else.

People gradually gathered in the main hall, and the dishes began to be served, yet no one moved to eat; the conversation continually revolved around Brother Xianqi and his mysterious girlfriend.

Jiang Liangjin was saying nice things.

Midway, Uncle Mu's phone rang; he picked it up, his expression already showing some impatience, and said, "Again he says he'll be here soon—he said that half an hour ago and even told us to prepare the dishes first."

Not knowing how to respond, Mu Youyu heard Jiang Liangjin say understandingly, "Maybe there's a traffic jam on the way."

After waiting nearly another hour, the dishes had been heated through twice.

Jiang Liangjin grew tired of saying nice things.

Song Yusui's legs went from crossed to lowered, then back to crossed, and his whole body moved from the dining table to the sofa.

He then shifted from one end of the sofa to the other, and back again.

Even Song Yan was getting drowsy from waiting.

"No," Song Yusui finally blurted out, "When Brother Qi said he's on the way, from which country did he depart?"

Mu Xin didn't even lift his head, replying, "From the gate."

Song Yusui choked for a moment, about to retort, when suddenly the sound of a car engine came from outside the gate.

Everyone's gazes in the living room turned in unison toward the gate.

Grandfather Mu rose to his feet, adjusted his collar, and narrowed his eyes into a slit.

Uncle Mu also stood up, the smile on his face unable to be contained.

The door was pushed open, and Brother Xianqi entered first, his hair shorter than the last time they'd met, and he looked much more spirited.

As he entered, he swept his gaze across the living room, saw the room full of people, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly, saying, "Yo, everyone's here?"

"Everyone's here, everyone's here," Grandfather Mu said, forgetting the earlier unpleasantness of waiting, stepped forward, looked past his shoulder toward the person behind him, and said, "Move aside, where is the person?"

Brother Xianqi stepped aside and called toward the door, "Come in, don't be shy."

The doorway fell silent for two seconds, then a figure walked in.

Mu Youyu pulled Jiang Liangjin up to look.

She was a young-looking woman, about half a head shorter than Brother Xianqi, wearing a bright orange windbreaker, sunglasses perched on her nose covering half her face, and her hair was light gold.

She carried two large bags in her hands and had a backpack on her back, making her look as if she had just stepped out of the airport and hadn't had a chance to put down her luggage.

Mu Youyu's gaze fell on her, and the first thought that came to mind was, "This sister dresses as if she's heading to Fashion Week."

The others present also had various subtle expressions.

Song Yusui stared, saying, "No way, she's that young?"

Lu Yuchu said, "So he really did come from some country."

Brother Xianqi placed his suitcase against the wall and stepped aside to let the woman behind him come forward.

She stood at the doorway, the eyes behind her sunglasses sweeping across the living room, as if sizing up the territory she was about to enter.

This made everyone feel somewhat uneasy.

Finally, the woman's gaze fell on Brother Xianqi, and she spoke in M Guo language with a sweet tone: "Why does your family have so many people?"

Grandfather Mu and Uncle Mu's Expression froze.

Mu Xianqi smiled gently, and also replied in M Guo: 'They're all family, no need to be nervous.'

The girl 'hmph'ed, put the big bag she was holding down on the ground, and took off her sunglasses.

She revealed a face with deep, three-dimensional features, obvious mixed-race traits, and skin that was the wheat tone of someone who had been in the sun.

Immediately, she spoke in M Guo, saying, 'Nice to meet you,' her tone carrying a hint of restrained arrogance.

Jiang Liangjin leaned in slightly, 'Don't you feel that something's off?'

Mu Youyu gave him a look that said, 'I can't put my finger on it.'

Seeing Mu Xi and Mu Xin's gazes turn toward them, the two tacitly stopped communicating and each found a seat.

Grandfather Mu controlled his Expression, responding in M Guo: 'It's good that you came, it's good that you came, hurry up and sit.'

Uncle Mu also followed up with a few words of welcome in M Guo.

Their pronunciation was so standard that several young people present were stunned for a moment.
