Chapter 498: Now it's fine

~5 min read 976 words

Song Huai walked into the box, his gaze sweeping over the two faces, the corner of his mouth lifting in an extremely faint arc, "Youbao, I didn't expect it to be you."

Song Huai, Youbao's third uncle, the third son of Youbao's grandmother, and the father of Song Yusui and Lu Yuchu, has recently rarely appeared in public.

Jiang Liangjin came back from the brief surprise, stood up, gave a slight nod, and moved the snacks beside the sofa aside to make space, "Uncle."

Song Huai didn't stand on ceremony, sat down on the opposite sofa, "Since we're acquaintances, no need for many words—you've also taken a liking to this set?"

Mu Youyu blinked, sensing another meaning in those words, "Uncle also wants this jewelry set?"

Song Huai didn't deny it, tapping his fingers lightly on the armrest, "This is your aunt's belongings."

Both heard it and didn't ask further.

Song Huai's late wife, the birth mother of Song Yusui and Lu Yuchu, has been deceased for many years.

Most of her belongings were kept by Song Huai; the few that had been lost over the years, he has been trying to retrieve them one by one.

"Since it's your aunt's belongings, it's also your uncle's, so I naturally won't contend for it." Jiang Liangjin said, glancing at Mu Youyu.

Mu Youyu had already sat up straight on the sofa, her gaze sweeping between Song Huai and the middle-aged man at the door, without interjecting.

"I originally wanted to win it as a birthday gift for my grandmother." Jiang Liangjin finished speaking, "But since my uncle wants it, I won't bid."

"Thanks."

For the first time, Song Huai felt the word "uncle" sounded especially pleasant, the gloom on his face finally easing a bit.

He shook his head again, reminding, "You mean well, but your grandmother doesn't like this ostentatious style; give her something else and she'll be happier."

Upon hearing that, Jiang Liangjin curled the corner of his mouth, "All right, thanks for the reminder, uncle."

The electronic bidding prompt sounded again from downstairs, the light in Box 21 flashed on once more, and the price jumped to two billion.

Obviously, it was Song Huai's people raising the bid.

Jiang Liangjin spoke again, "Uncle, should I send someone down to check on those two?"

That was said rather indirectly.

Boxes 1 and 10 were still bidding, back and forth, and if Box 22 suddenly withdrew, they might not stop there.

Song Huai's personal wealth was certainly enough, but there was no need to be led by the nose in such a setting.

Song Huai caught his meaning, sat up straight, "Go take a look. You don't need to worry over there—I've left someone on my side to keep bidding, dragging out the time."

As he reached the door, he glanced back at Mu Youyu, his expression much softer, "Youbao, don't tell your grandmother about today."

Mu Youyu obediently replied, "Got it, third uncle!"

Is she that kind of person?

Song Huai pushed the door open and went out.

Jiang Liangjin stood up, reaching his hand toward Mu, "Shall we go too?"

"Let's go." Mu Youyu placed her hand in his palm, and he pulled her up.

The two followed behind Song Huai out of the box, heading toward Box 1.

The door of Box 1 was closed, a bodyguard stood at the entrance, and upon seeing someone approach, he vigilantly shifted to block the way.

Song Huai ignored him, simply raising his hand to knock on the door.

The door opened from inside, revealing a well-maintained side profile.

Cheng Siqing saw the person standing outside the door, her expression hardly changing, "What's up?"

Song Huai: "You already knew it was me, right?"

Cheng Siqing tugged at the corner of her mouth, "Box 21's bid shot up so fast—besides you, who else could it be? Song Huai, don't compete with me; this is something I bought together with Qian Qian, and it rightfully belongs to me."

She's not short of money.

Song Huai bluntly said, "The highest bidder wins."

Asking further would be pointless.

"……" Cheng Siqing then asked, "How have Sui Sui and Chu Chu been lately?"

Song Huai's mind was fully occupied with retrieving the heirlooms, and he didn't respond.

Cheng Siqing didn't mind either, turning her gaze to Mu Youyu and Jiang Liangjin at the door, her tone softening a bit, "You two kids came too? Have you been all right lately?"

Mu Youyu smiled, "Hello, Aunt Cheng."

Jiang Liangjin also gave a soft greeting, "Aunt Cheng."

Cheng Siqing nodded.

Song Huai glanced at her, "Come out, I have something to say to you."

Box 10 stopped bidding, leaving only Box 21 and this Box 1.

Cheng Siqing leaned against the door frame, showing no intention to step aside, "The auction hasn't ended yet; if there's anything, we can talk after it's over—don't worry, I won't fall for your scheme."

Song Huai just stood there, neither urging nor retreating.

Beside them, the client who had been following him step by step drew closer.

Cheng Siqing raised her eyebrows, completely unafraid, and asked leisurely, "What are you doing?"

The bodyguard inside responsible for calling out bids, hearing the sound, jumped to his feet, forgetting the auction, quickly stepped in front of Cheng Siqing, "What are you trying to do? Move any further and I won't be polite."

Five seconds later, Cheng Siqing finally reacted.

Song Huai silently counted in his heart; when the time came, a smile finally appeared on his face, "I didn't do anything."

Box 1 fell silent.

Taking advantage of the pause, the auctioneer called out three times and finally hammered down, "Box 21, thirty billion four hundred million, sold!"

The room fell dead silent.

Song Huai let out a breath of relief, "Now it's fine."

Mu Youyu, Jiang Liangjin: "Impressive."
