Chapter 567

~7 min read 1,357 words

After a few days, Mu Youyu and her group arrived at the film set where Lin Ning was.

The filming location chosen by the crew was a private manor in the suburbs; the manor's owner was a friend of Lin Shu, who lent it to her sister for shooting.

The pre‑erected tents and equipment trucks took up most of the space, a few huge fill lights stood at the edge of the site, and there was a large pile of props stacked together.

Before Mu Youyu and her group even got close, they heard a noisy clamor from inside, mixed with a few shouts in Z Country Language and the low rumble of machinery.

Upon entering, one could see several equipment trucks parked inside, with crew members bustling back and forth moving gear, a scene of busy activity.

The group's gaze swept over the crowd and quickly landed on the figure in a light‑colored long dress standing at the center of the site.

Lin Ning had tied her hair into a neat ponytail today, and was saying something to the director while holding the script and gesturing at a spot.

Beside her stood a tall, slender woman with a dark coat open, her hands tucked into the pockets.

She lowered her eyes to look at the tablet in her hand, occasionally raising her head to say a sentence or two to Lin Ning, who nodded and then continued communicating with the director.

Yu Ci narrowed his eyes and said, "Is that Lin Shu?"

Lin Shu, Lin Ning's older sister by seven years, is the current head of the Lin family.

Gu Xingnan: "Haven't we met before?"

"Just sighing a bit."

As the two approached, Lin Ning happened to turn around, spotted her best friend at the front, slipped the script into her sister's arms, and hurried over, exclaiming, "Youbao! You finally made it!"

She opened her arms and lunged forward, but Mu Youyu laughed and stepped aside, causing her to grasp at air; "Don't, don't, don't—your outfit looks great, don't wrinkle it."

After saying that, Mu Youyu blinked; she had seen the outfit on her phone before and hadn't thought much of it, but seeing it in person, she realized it looked really familiar.

"It's fine; my sister bought it, and if it gets ruined she'll buy me a new one."

Lin Ning said that, yet obediently stepped back half a pace, looked her up and down, and remarked, "Not bad; I feel you've grown a bit taller."

Lin Shu replied, "You'll grow too; at sixteen or seventeen you're still in your growing years."

"Ningning." Yu Ci and Gu Xingnan greeted her in turn.

The former still curious, glanced a few more times at the set and exclaimed, "This production isn't small—just those machines alone must be several, right?"

Lin Ning lifted her chin proudly, "Of course, my sister invested in it—how could it be lacking? I personally picked the cast, all handsome guys and beautiful girls!"

"We'll get by." Yu Ci sighed, then added, "This is life—I feel the greatest suffering we've endured in this lifetime is the hardship of study."

Lin Ning said, putting an arm around her best friend's shoulders, "Anything you like? I'll take you to see."

……

Jiang Liangjin gave a heavy cough, stepped forward to block the overly enthusiastic Lin Ning, and politely nodded toward the front, saying, "Good day, Elder Sister Lin."

"Good." Lin Shu walked over upon hearing the voice.

She was half a head taller than Lin Ning, her features somewhat sharper than her sister's, with a gentle smile at the corners of her mouth, "Ah You is well too; Lin Ning has been mentioning you every day these past few days."

"Elder Sister Lin." Mu Youyu lifted her face and smiled, then glanced at the tablet in her hand, "Have you been personally overseeing this drama lately?"

Lin Shu gave a light laugh, "There's no helping it; our family's young lady is making her acting debut, and if I don't keep an eye on things I'm afraid she'll offend everyone."

"I won't!" Lin Ning protested from the side, but her sister reached out and ruffled her hair, making her shrink back, "I'm a charming lead!"

Mu Youyu tilted her head, "Lead sister, keep it up."

Lin Ning's heart blossomed at being called 'lead sister'; she snatched the tablet from her sister's hand and handed it over, "I haven't shown you the script yet—here, here."

Mu Youyu lowered her head to flip through the script outline; the beginning was normal, but the further she went, the more her brow furrowed unconsciously, "Ningning, are you sure you're acting in this?"

Jiang Liangjin tilted his head, finding it funnier the more he looked.

"Yeah, I spent a long time picking it; you think the script is not bad, right?" Lin Ning looked expectant.

Mu Youyu didn't give a direct answer, only remarking, "Last year you told me you wanted to shoot a fantasy film—could it be that you're actually trying to write the script yourself?"

Lin Ning, exposed but not embarrassed, smirked, "I tweaked the plot a tiny bit, but the character settings are absolutely intact!"

She said this while raising a finger, solemnly emphasizing, "Just a tiny bit."

Mu Youyu quickly flipped the script to the last page, saw the notation below, fell silent for a few breaths, "You didn't change the ending of When Rain Falls at the Fingertips to a HE, did you?"

Lin Ning's gaze became evasive.

Having confirmed her suspicion, Mu Youyu closed the script and handed it back, "But why didn't you invite Senior Ye?"

Lin Ning made a 'tsk' sound, "He may be a half‑prototype, but filming is another matter—he's not even in this profession! All right, all right, I'm heading up front; you go play with your boyfriend for now~"

Jiang Liangjin had no comment on that, merely pulling his girlfriend closer into his embrace and whispering, "Are you still watching this drama?"

Mu Youyu sighed, "Of course I'll watch it; I'm saving it for the New Year as a side dish."

Yu Ci said a word, then pulled Gu Xingnan off to the lounge to play.

While they were talking, a commotion suddenly arose from the set.

Someone raised a megaphone shouting, "Pay attention, pay attention," and the crowd automatically stepped aside to make a passage.

A figure in a white long dress emerged from the makeup van, with flaxen curly long hair, and a small assistant behind her holding a violin, which stood out especially under the lights.

Someone recognized her and whispered in astonishment, "Is that Princess Yan? I didn't missee, did I?"

"It's her! I've been following her for a while—Princess Yan doesn't take acting jobs, so why is she suddenly here?"

"Exactly, she rarely does commercial shoots; her recent schedule has been all concerts, and she's turned down several variety show invitations."

"I heard it's a special invitation—she only plays a minor role, but there's a violin scene, and supposedly the director revised the script especially for that segment."

Having a genius violinist cameo as a supporting character?! The other actors instantly felt pressure.

"Good heavens, what's the background of this crew? First a big investment, then they got Mu Xianyan to cameo, and I've never seen Princess Yan take a role… to be frank, she's really beautiful."

"By the way, isn't this just some drama school student's assignment?"

"Exactly, exactly—I know many students prepare short dramas, she's preparing a TV drama, but how did they manage to get such impressive people?"

"This drama is just her sister giving her something to play with…"

"What, you're saying our drama is going to blow up?"

The murmuring discussion rose low for a moment, then was drowned out by the director's shout.

Mu Xianyan glanced at her younger sister, not surprised, walked straight over, "Sister, want to try this violin? The tone is not bad."

The assistant holding the violin on the side was used to it; this violin worth several million, besides the young master Mu, only in front of Miss Mu would it be called "not bad."
