Chapter 61: Mu Xin Returns to the Country

~9 min read 1,700 words

Jiang Liangjin clearly heard a voice coming from the other end of her phone inside the car.

It was an extremely recognizable, clear, magnetic voice, clean and pleasant.

It wasn't Mu Nian's or Mu Xi's.

Plus she said 'Brother.'

Jiang Liangjin instantly thought of Mu Xin.

Youbao's fraternal twin brother, extraordinarily gifted and exceptionally perceptive, had gone to Y Guo since childhood.

He had never seen him.

"I was eating outside just now and didn't see the phone."

Mu Youyu explained a sentence, still wanting to say more, when she heard a faint voice from someone else on the phone: "President Mu, the other side of the cooperation is still waiting for your reply……"

The next second, Mu Xin's tone instantly turned cold, completely different from how he had just spoken to her: "Let them wait, didn't you see I'm on the phone?"

The person on the other end seemed choked, and then there was no more sound.

Mu Youyu thought he was busy preparing for his doctorate exam, and she softened her voice: "Brother, what's wrong?"

Mu Xin's voice paused, as if he had shifted his posture on the other end.

"Brother, is something wrong?"

"I just missed you."

Mu Youyu chuckled, "Didn't we just talk on the phone yesterday?"

Mu Xin smiled slightly, "That's not the same."

They chatted for five minutes, then a sound came from Mu Xin's end before he hung up.

Jiang Liangjin saw the phone hang up, then asked, "Your little brother?"

Mu Youyu nodded, "Yeah, he's abroad."

She recalled what Mu Xin had said a few days earlier, her eyes dimming; as expected, her brother wouldn't be able to return until her second year of high school.

Jiang Liangjin saw her lost gaze, his heart softened: "Don't you still have Elder Brother Xi keeping you company?"

Thinking of Mu Xi made Mu Youyu even more sad: "Second Brother went to participate in a competition within the province yesterday."

Jiang Liangjin hadn't expected Mu Xi to go to another competition; wasn't he recommended for direct admission?

"Is Elder Brother Nian still on a business trip?"

Mu Youyu felt even more heartbroken: "Yeah."

"... Brother Lu Jing?"

"He went to participate in a physics competition." She felt even more heartbroken.

The only brothers Mu Youyu had at Nan Feng School were these two.

The car stopped.

"The young lady has arrived."

Jiang Liangjin rubbed her head, "Youbao, go home first; I'll come pick you up tomorrow morning."

"Okay."

Mu Youyu stepped into the Mu Family residence, had just said a few words to Aunt Qing and was about to go upstairs, when she heard a loud commotion outside.

She instinctively turned her head to look outside.

She saw the brother who had just been on the phone, now actually standing alive at the doorway, his gentle gaze fixed on her.

!!!

"Brother, shouldn't you be in Y Guo?"

Mu Youyu stared blankly, then reacted and lunged forward.

"Brother Xin Xin!"

Mu Xin steadily caught her, "Hmm?"

"I missed you so much." Mu Youyu hugged Mu Xin tightly.

Speaking again, her voice tinged with tears: "Brother, when did you come back?"

Mu Xin smiled gently: "Yesterday."

As Mu Youyu lifted her face, her eye sockets already reddened, her tone carrying a hint of aggrieved complaint: "Then why didn't you come see me yesterday, and not even tell me?"

Mu Xin lowered his head to look at his sister's puffed-up angry expression, the smile in his ice-blue eyes deepening further.

Mu Xin raised his hand to rub her head, explaining: "I've been busy with company matters, wanting to give you a surprise."

Yesterday he was waiting for someone at the milk tea shop, regarding a cooperation.

A week earlier, that person had contacted Mu Xin; initially they asked when he would return to discuss the cooperation project, and he had planned to come back in October.

He originally intended to finish all his work before October, then return to the country.

But he also wanted to come back to see his sister, so he changed his plan to a week later.

He handled those four days' affairs in advance before returning.

He thought that after finishing the cooperation talk, his sister would just be out of school, and he wanted to give her, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, a surprise.

So yesterday he first went to the agreed-upon place to wait for that person.

But plans can't keep up with changes.

He had thought it would last at most an hour, but unexpectedly, upon seeing him, the other person felt they had found a kindred spirit, chatting from company operations to life ideals, spewing saliva until the early morning!

Mu Xin gave a reminder, and the other person then slapped his forehead, saying, "I almost forgot the main point; I need to get to it quickly!"

As a result, he spoke even more enthusiastically; later, upon opening the document, he drifted from the contract details back to life ideals again.

He stubbornly dragged it on until 1 a. m. before finally signing.

The next day, that is today, the person said the contract wasn't yet perfected and dragged him out for a meal.

Saw some people.

He wasted a day and a half in total.

Mu Xin: "..."

If it weren't for not wanting to cause trouble by returning home, Mu Xin really wanted to give Song Ze and Song Ze'er each a kick.

This afternoon he went to school early to wait for his sister for half an hour; not seeing her come out, he just made a phone call.

Unexpectedly, she was eating out.

After learning she was on her way home, Mu Xin also came from the school gate to the Mu family residence.

Mu Youyu knew her brother had opened a company in Y Guo.

In the early days of his startup, he must have been busy beyond measure; that little grievance in his heart instantly vanished like smoke.

She then rose from his embrace, waved her hand gently, and spoke in a soft voice: "Well then, I forgive you, brother."

It was indeed quite a surprise.

Mu Xin chuckled, then returned her grip: "How's school been?"

Mu Youyu swayed back and forth: "Not bad, having acquaintances makes it not boring."

As she spoke, her eyes lit up: "Brother, I'm going out to play tomorrow with Ningning and a few friends—will you come too?"

Her tone was mixed with coquettishness.

Mu Xin had heard her mention Lin Ning, the young lady of the Lin family, her sister's close friend.

His heart softened, yet he still apologetically shook his head: "I have to leave early tomorrow."

Mu Youyu lowered her long lashes: "So busy? Brother, you've just come back..."

Mu Xin nodded, seeing her lower her brows, he gently touched her face: "Sorry, dear, once I'm done with this busy period... I'll stay long-term domestically."

Long-term domestically?!

She instantly lit up with joy: "How long after you're done?"

He stated clearly: "At most four months."

She almost jumped up!

Ah ah ah ah, she had thought it would be at least a year.

Previously Mu Xin said he could return by her sophomore year of high school; she thought he could only stay a few days, didn't dare ask!

Who would have thought he'd come back and not go abroad again!

But...

Mu Youyu smiled: "Brother, don't overwork yourself; if you can't make it back, it's fine—your health matters most!"

We can still video chat!

Mu Xin softened his tone: "Okay."

He took Mu Youyu's hand as they just stepped onto the stairs, and his phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated.

He first glanced at his sister, then at the screen; his originally gentle brows and eyes unchanged: "Ling."

A clear, warm male voice came from the other end, a tone utterly familiar unlike with others: "Finished? This morning Xiao Yi said you were entangled by the partner for a day and a half?"

"Yeah, just got home. Things settled, no delay." Mu Xin slowed his steps.

"No delay is good." The other end chuckled lightly.

Mu Xin said: "What's up?"

"Ah Xin, they miss you, okay?" The voice suddenly turned coquettish.

Mu Xin laughed, tone as usual: "We saw each other just a few days ago."

"Not the same~ the day before yesterday was the day before yesterday, today is today! Plus our time zones differ."

After a few words, the other end said: "Ah Xin, remember to say hello to me and my sister!"

Mu Xin responded.

"Ah Xin, I know you're busy with your sister, but remember to rest!"

The other end's tone carried a hint of helpless indulgence, then added: "If you come back and I find you've lost weight, watch me... make you gain it back!"

"Got it." Mu Xin hung up, turned his head, and saw Mu Youyu looking at him with curious eyes.

He rubbed his sister's hair, explaining: "It's Ling."

"Ling brother?" Mu Youyu lifted her little face.

When her brother was on the phone, she had already recognized it was his friend from Y Guo, whom she always called Ling brother.

During previous video calls with her brother, Ling brother had appeared; she had seen him in person when she went to Y Guo.

Mu Xin's eyes showed a faint smile as he continued walking upstairs with her: "Yes."

Mu Youyu purposely pouted: "No wonder, every time you talk to him you sound happier than when you talk to me!"

This was naturally just a joke.

She had previously video-called with her brother, and that "Ling brother" was the person who appeared most often besides Xiao Yi and Xiao Er.

He had also greeted her, and together with her brother they called her Youbao.

She knew he had been her brother's friend since he was three.

Sometimes she actually envied him, being able to stay by her brother's side from childhood.

But more than that, she felt grateful for his companionship to her brother.

Mu Xin helplessly tapped her forehead, tone without a hint of blame: "Where?"

"Everywhere!"

Their footsteps echoed softly up the stairs, the air filled with the warmth of long-awaited reunion.
