Chapter 630

~8 min read 1,402 words

The next day, Mu Youyu got up early, changed into the C University uniform, and casually tied her hair into a Gaomawei.

Today was the student council election; there were many positions freshmen could run for, but the position Mu Youyu wanted was not open to freshmen—she had to wait until her sophomore year to be eligible.

Now, she has just entered her sophomore year.

The university-level election was held in the largest lecture hall on campus, packed with teachers and students.

Several candidates sat in the first row, clutching their scripts, heads bowed as they murmured silently, making the atmosphere on and off stage look even tenser.

Mu Youyu didn't bring a script, only her phone; she found a seat, sat down, opened it to check the speech requirements, and remained calm and composed.

When Qiao Xin and Xiao Yu entered, she finally looked up and smiled.

After she sat down, many gazes swept from the back rows forward, and the previously relaxed postures all straightened up.

"How did our campus belle come too? I thought she wasn't interested in this kind of thing."

"Which department does the goddess want to join? I want to be in the same department as her!"

"Yeah, if we're in the same department as her, there'll definitely be more activities."

When the time came, the host gave a brief opening, then called out the names in order.

The first few speakers each had their own style when they went on stage.

When it was Mu Youyu's turn, she stood up, walked to the microphone, stood on stage, her Smile bright, and said, "Respected judges, teachers, seniors, I am Mu Youyu from Class 1 of the Art School, and today I'm running for student council president."

As soon as she finished, a low murmur rose from the audience.

The most common comment was, "Well, I guess I'll have to run for another position."

Mu Youyu had already reached the middle of her speech, her voice clear: "My college entrance exam score was a perfect mark, and since enrolling, my grades in every subject have consistently ranked first in my year; I've also won many awards, including—"

She rattled off a string of art and academic competition awards, national and international titles dropping one after another.

Those who had ideas about this position felt hopeless: with a perfect exam score now present, they had no hope.

"A perfect college entrance exam score? She's probably the only one in the whole country; among this year's candidates, who's ever achieved that level?"

"Definitely not—what are we even competing for?"

"I heard from a senior that in her freshman year she basically participated in all the institute's group activities, and she got good reviews."

"I just glanced at her résumé—she has many national-level awards and a few international ones."

"Indeed, just her professional achievements alone would be enough for us to study for several years."

"But if she really becomes president, the institute's activities should be able to be organized better than they are now."

Mu Youyu then went on to share some of her ideas, her tone confident and calm; after finishing, she bowed her head in thanks.

The judges immediately asked her a few questions; after she answered, several of them nodded in satisfaction.

After a brief silence from the audience, applause broke out, though the chatter didn't completely stop.

Mu Youyu calmly returned to her seat, and Qiao Xin and Xiao Yu rushed over to start praising her.

Mu Youyu accepted the compliments with a smile, then asked Qiao Xin, "I feel like there haven't been any interesting courses these past few years; it'll be boring. Aren't you planning to join a department just to pass the time?"

Qiao Xin replied confidently, "That's just you finding it boring! I still have many courses I haven't heard of—I want to practice my colors more."

"Besides," she added softly, "I'm an introverted little girl; I'm not good at greeting strangers."

Mu Youyu and Xiao Yu tacitly chose to remain silent.

At that moment, Feng Cen slipped in from behind, linking arms with her close friend, and said, "Sorry I'm late."

Feng Cen transferred to C University this semester; although university transfers are normally difficult, she had connections and good grades.

Thus, her family prepared the necessary documents over the summer, and this semester Feng Cen successfully transferred to the School of Economics and Finance at C University.

Like Mu Youyu, she is a sophomore, still in the 2+2 study-abroad program, and will go overseas after completing her sophomore year.

Mu Youyu curled her lips and asked, "Have you seen Xiao Yu? She's gotten quite dark from military training lately."

"I've seen her—she's evenly tanned, and just looking at her makes my heart ache."

The two chatted with Yu Yu for a few sentences, then Feng Cen rested her head on her shoulder and began to sigh deeply.

Mu Youyu frowned suspiciously and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Feng Cen replied, "This place is so boring."

Mu Youyu comforted her, "Don't be bored; after it's over I'll take you to my place to have fun."

"Okay."

Qiao Xin jabbed Xiao Yu enviously and said, "Her relationship with the goddess is really good."

Xiao Yu calmly replied, "They've known each other longer than you have."

Mu Youyu heard it, turned back and smiled, "Everyone go, everyone go."

Qiao Xin smirked, raising her eyebrows at Xiao Yu, who then lifted a hand to her forehead.

Yu Ci's coming-of-age ceremony was held at the same place as the day before, inside the western manor.

He said he wanted a big celebration, but not too many people disturbing him; there should be food and fun, allowing him to let loose and party all night.

In Gu Xingnan's words: "He wants to make a fuss, but without elders watching over him."

Thus the backyard became the gathering place for the adults.

The front yard was left for Yu Ci and his friends, where a large stage was set up with full sound equipment, and lights from the edge of the lawn shone onto the pool surface, casting a shimmering blue.

Many guests arrived, most of them peers; a few elders showed up, gave their gifts, then sensibly retreated to the backyard, leaving the front-yard space for the youngsters.

When Mu Youyu, Jiang Liangjin, and a few others arrived, the manor already had many people, most of them peers from aristocratic families.

Yu Ci's father stood at the door greeting guests.

Yu Ci wore a formal outfit, standing at the door waiting for his friends; seeing the two approach, he hurried forward and said, "You've finally come—I've been waiting forever!"

"Happy adulthood." Mu Youyu said with a smile, uttering a phrase he loves to hear, "You look really sharp in that outfit today."

"Of course." Yu Ci puffed out his chest, lifted his chin at Jiang Liangjin, and asked, "How about it? I'm not that much worse than you, am I?"

Jiang Liangjin, linked arms with his fiancée, feeling wonderful, replied, "Everything you said is correct."

"That's right, today I'm the main character, you all have to listen to me."

"Yu Ci stepped aside to clear the path, 'Let's go in first and talk later, A Nan is inside.'"

"Mu Youyu handed over the gift, 'The gift from me and A Jin for you, we'll open it when no one's around.'"

"'Got it, got it.' Yu Ci took it over, sighing, 'You guys sent all the gifts together.'"

"Before, you could still receive two different gifts."

"Jiang Liangjin replied, 'Exactly, this is our intention.'"

"Yu Ci raised his eyebrows, 'Alright, I've received your two's feelings. It's just a pity that Ningning didn't come; she had said she would come earlier.'"

"Mu Youyu explained for her friend, 'She didn't have an exam.'"

"The group headed straight to the front courtyard; Jiang Liangjin went ahead to the dessert area to get dessert."

"Many people were gathered there, grilling meat."

"Yu Ci invited only his close friends; the unfamiliar faces stayed in the back courtyard with Father Yu."

"Moreover, the people here were unpretentious and knew their bounds, so Mu Youyu and her companions didn't feel uncomfortable."

"Yu Ci leaned close to Gu Xingnan and murmured, 'Brother Xian hasn't arrived yet; didn't Brother Xi say he would come?'"

"Gu Xingnan reassured, 'He should come; let's sit and wait.'"

"'Alright.'"
