Chapter 7: Couple's Name
Jiang Yi: Mu Youyu, this name sounds nice, it's nice. She could have simply introduced herself, but she insists on coming up with a... couple name that matches Jin ge? What's her relationship with Jin ge?
Zou Xun: It's a pity Jin ge didn't come to class today; I really wanted to see what Expression Jin ge would have upon hearing the transfer student's introduction.
Chen Zhui: If you say it has nothing to do with Jin ge, I don't believe it.
Lu Yuan: Wow!
Mu Youyu stood quietly on the podium for a moment, while Teacher Liu was momentarily lost in thought and didn't reply right away.
After Teacher Liu came to their senses, silently counted a few seconds to confirm she had finished her introduction, then lifted their gaze and swept over the classroom.
There were several empty seats, and most of the empty desks had books placed on them.
She shifted her gaze and instantly spotted the second-to-last row in the classroom, the only empty seat without any books on it.
However, the desk next to that empty seat had a few books on it, obviously indicating someone's presence, though the owner was absent.
Teacher Liu recalled that the vice principal had instructed to seat the new student next to Jiang Liangjin.
So she said, 'Mu classmate, you can sit there. The person in front of you is the class monitor Bai Yun, who also serves as my Chinese class representative; if you need help, you can ask her.'
Bai Yun had an approachable appearance, but in reality she disdained actively befriending the arrogant and domineering young masters and misses.
In class, aside from her desk mate, she maintained ordinary relationships with others; at school she never caused trouble, was kind-hearted, excelled both morally and academically, and was considered a good student by the teachers.
Mu Youyu softly said thanks, then lifted her foot to fetch the new books placed on the podium.
Seeing the seat Teacher Liu had chosen, the students couldn't contain their excitement and began to chatter.
"Wow, Little Liu Sister really intends to let the transfer student sit next to Jin ge, unafraid of being kicked out by Jin ge with a kick."
"The transfer student is so pretty, and she has fate with Jin ge; sitting together is just sitting together, easy on the eyes."
"What's there to fear? Jin ge hasn't come to class for a week; if you don't say anything and I don't say anything, he definitely won't know he's gained a desk mate."
"Speaking of Jin ge, he's amazing too—though he doesn't attend class, his exam scores are first every time."
"The god among study gods!"
Mu Youyu heard part of it and her steps halted.
What 'kicked out', not attending class, yet always first.
Her eyes flickered slightly; it seemed this desk mate she had never met before was no ordinary big shot.
Bai Yun glanced at the thick stack of new books on the podium and knew one person definitely couldn't move them.
She immediately rose, walked up to the podium, and voluntarily helped her move the books to that empty seat.
Seeing this scene, Teacher Liu smiled with relief.
Look at their Class A!
So united and friendly!
Mu Youyu sat down, smiled at Bai Yun and said thank you, then began organizing her books.
Bai Yun turned to face her, her big eyes blinking, then she gave a warm smile.
This left her momentarily stunned.
Bai Yun's voice sounded just like a person's: 'Mu classmate, you're welcome—I'm Bai Yun, the Yun from bamboo Yun, not the Yun from white cloud! I'm the class monitor of this class; if you have any needs, you can tell me, I'm very easy to get along with.'
But her heart was far from calm: Ahhhhh, sweetie! So pretty, so pretty, so pretty, so pretty, so pretty!
Some people in Class A stared blankly: 'What? How come the class monitor is so proactive?'
Seeing her friendliness, Mu Youyu chuckled softly, 'Hello, Bai Yun classmate.'
Since it was class time, Bai Yun couldn't chat much; she said a word to her and then turned her head away.
Mu Youyu glanced sideways and saw the books on the neighboring desk were in disarray, with a pen placed on top, the same model as her limited-edition pen.
She immediately thought this person was a young master or miss from West City.
She sat up straight, turned her gaze back to her own desk, and placed a pen of the same model on the desk surface.
Teacher Liu tapped the table to regain everyone's attention: 'Young masters and misses, please quiet down! The new student's seating is arranged, so take out yesterday's test paper; Bai Yun, give her a new test paper.'
It's May already, and the main courses at the key school have all been finished.
Now it's freshman year of high school; the teachers aren't pressing too hard, not rushing to teach sophomore knowledge, but focusing on exams and lecture practice.
After being interrupted like that, only a dozen or so minutes of class remained; Teacher Liu thought to use the current time to finish explaining yesterday's test paper.
A cheerful boy sitting next to Bai Yun grinned and joked, 'Teacher, you forgot to say, young masters and misses, please listen to the lesson.'
Inside the classroom, the students' laughter rang out in unison.
"Yes, teacher!"
Teacher Liu could do nothing about these students.
Lan Lin is a private key high school, inside which ninety percent are young masters and misses that ordinary people cannot afford to offend.
Moreover, Class A is the gifted class; the young masters and misses there all have excellent grades, most have good personalities and are also proactive.
Quite a few are very kind and get along well with the teachers.
Furthermore, the teachers who teach the fewest courses and receive high monthly salaries excluding bonuses are quite friendly toward the school's young masters and misses, even to the point of pampering them.
Teacher Liu has always satisfied their small requests; since the start of freshman year she has been calling these people 'young masters and misses.'
Upon hearing that, she laughed and said, 'Young masters and misses, please listen to the lesson.'
"Got it!" The boy who had spoken first upon hearing Teacher Liu's words sat up promptly and took out his book.
Seeing everyone had taken out their books, Teacher Liu added, 'Young masters and misses, please use your precious hands to take out the Chinese test paper and turn to the part not yet covered from yesterday.'
Mu Youyu was surprised; the class atmosphere was still quite good.
She had previously studied in the gifted class of Sheng Luo Class 1, where every student was a crazy overachiever.
Initially, she was rather indifferent to the atmosphere of that Class 1 back then.
There was too much fake friendship in the class, which made her feel weary.
This led her to not want to make friends, nor face those from the gifted class; she often skipped class, and occasionally, when she didn't want to skip, she would ask for leave.
It's mainly about playing.
Later she met Liu Wanwan; although Liu Wanwan sometimes had a bit of a young lady's temper, she couldn't stand it because her character was very good, and after getting familiar, they also got along well.
She looked down on people at school who bullied the weak, and in the name of the Liu family she convened a school-wide meeting of teachers and students.
She emphasized that no bullying incidents could occur, and violators would not be lightly forgiven by the Liu family.
Liu Wanwan was originally in Class 2, but after the start-of-term exam, seeing Mu Youyu being given a hard time, she stood up to speak for her and then said to Mu Youyu:
"Look at your pitiful pleading little expression; this young lady takes pity and gives you a chance to become this young lady's friend."
Mu Youyu was startled at that moment, somewhat surprised.
Liu Wanwan didn't wait for her to come to her senses before pulling her away.
Afterwards, Liu Wanwan transferred from Class 2 to Class 1 that day, and they played wildly together with Mu Youyu.
Both ranked high in exams, and moreover, Liu Wanwan is the sole heir of the Liu family.
Even the teachers and principal of Sheng Luo kept their eyes tightly shut toward the two of them.
Mu Youyu still quite liked the atmosphere of this class.
Teacher Liu began explaining the test paper.
Bai Yun turned around and handed her the new test paper; she glanced at it briefly and found it quite simple.
She patiently listened for a few minutes, but found Teacher Liu's content boring.
She already knew all of this.
Mu Youyu simply doodled on the Chinese test paper.
As she drew, her wrist grew sore; she put down her pen and turned her head to look at the desk of her desk-mate beside her.
The window wasn't closed, having been blown open by the wind; a page of the hardcover notebook on her desk-mate's desk had been flipped open.
On that sheet of paper was written the character "Jiang", in a flowing, soaring style.
Mu Youyu caught a glimpse of the familiar handwriting and froze.
The pen in her hand remained unmoving, leaving a black ink spot on the paper.
The next second, her hand went limp, the pen she held slipped from the desk onto the floor, and her thoughts drifted away.
