Chapter 191: Deep Sleep

~8 min read 1,497 words

Qiao Suisui was quickly carried by Luka and transferred onto a private Flying Ship, with Laiboli and Sang Yan following closely behind.

First, the Medical Team gave her a comprehensive examination, then Laiboli had over a dozen dishes and snacks she usually loved brought up; the man even insisted on not letting her do it herself, feeding her every single bite.

Sang Yan didn't know where he had picked fresh, blooming flowers to place at her bedside; the petals still held dew, full of vitality, filling the room with freshness.

Luka slept with her in the Medical Pod, and smelling his familiar scent again made Qiao Suisui feel much more at ease. She hadn't dared to sleep while locked up at the base, but now she could finally have a good rest.

Her head rested on Luka's arm, her body curled up slightly, held entirely within the man's embrace.

Qiao Suisui felt her consciousness gradually sinking; as she closed her eyes, she was still clutching Luka's collar, whispering, "Wake me up when we arrive."

The man kissed her forehead tenderly, "Mm, sleep."

When Zongfang returned, he first went to clean himself up before going to see Qiao Suisui. He walked over softly and saw her sleeping, her delicate cheeks looking very peaceful; Zongfang couldn't help but smile slightly in relief.

Luka turned his head to look at Zongfang, and the two men exchanged a glance; then Zongfang walked outside, while Luka gently and slowly pulled his arm out, his large hand supporting her neck to let her rest on the pillow, then he tucked the blanket in for her, and finally, he placed a kiss on her lips before closing the Medical Pod door and leaving with Zongfang.

"Is he gone?"

"Dead."

Luka was silent, frowning as he said, "Are you sure?"

Zongfang nodded, "When I found him, he was already failing; perhaps he only kept holding on and refusing to close his eyes because he wanted to know if Qiaoqiao was safe. I told him Qiaoqiao was already fine, and that breath of his dissipated; he passed away within minutes."

Luka closed his eyes and pressed his temples. "Did he leave any last words?"

Zongfang hesitated for a moment, but still said it. "He said not to tell her."

Luka's brow furrowed slightly, a trace of melancholy and even more worry appearing. "Things like this are best not hidden."

Previously, he had hidden the fact that Anubis had been taken away from Qiao Suisui because she was pregnant and he didn't dare disturb her state of mind; furthermore, he was gambling that he could rescue the person and bring Anubis before her, then explain it properly so she wouldn't be angry with him. But the situation now was completely different; Sui Sui's body was no longer in any serious condition, and she would definitely go to look for Anubis at the first opportunity. If she discovered for herself that Anubis was dead, and she was the last one to know, what would she think?

Zongfang felt the same way, but he had promised Anubis after all; regardless of the relationship between the two, since the person was dead, he had to be loyal to the task.

He said, "I won't tell her."

Luka glanced at him and immediately understood his meaning. "Then I will."

Zongfang said nothing, nodded, and went inside.

There seemed to be a tacit understanding between strong men; Zongfang and Luka had fought before, and setting aside the factor of Qiao Suisui, both men actually held a hidden respect for each other in their hearts, even if they showed none of it on the surface.

The Flying Ship traveled at light speed along the Interstellar orbit, and by the time it reached Ausilan, a full night had passed. Just as the pilot finished stabilizing the ship, he suddenly saw a large black hole appear on the glass opposite him.

A red-haired man emerged from the hole, cursing; he stepped onto the console and jumped to the floor, looking like he wanted to hit someone.

"I'm fucking done with this; working for his old man was one thing, but now I'm being schemed against, and I have to compete with daddy's influence just to vie for favor, damn it!"

The pilot was stunned, completely unable to understand what he was saying, but upon coming to his senses, he immediately pressed the Flying Ship's alarm.

Automatic locks dropped throughout the Flying Ship, and red lights flashed overhead.

Ka'er looked back, saw the pilot huddled in the corner, rolled his eyes at him speechlessly, and strode with long legs toward the Medium section of the ship.

At this moment, Sang Yan had already walked out upon hearing the alarm and was stunned to see that it was Ka'er who had returned.

"What are you looking at? Where is she?" Ka'er was hot-tempered and couldn't stand the sight of anyone.

Sang Yan said, "She's fine, she's sleeping." Hearing Sang Yan say that Qiao Suisui was still sleeping, Ka'er unconsciously lowered his voice; although he wanted to see her immediately, the thought that she might not have slept well during this time made him suppress his surging emotions and cover them with a joke.

He walked over, hooked his arm around Sang Yan's shoulder, and whispered into his ear, "You want to stay by her side?"

Sang Yan was startled, lowered his head, and neither admitted nor denied it.

Ka'er gave a crooked smile and continued, "I know what you're thinking, but you have to get past someone first."

"Colonel Xikesaisi?"

Ka'er shook his head and analyzed it for him as if it were a serious matter: "Xikesaisi only looks distant, but he's actually very tolerant; the one you really need to put effort into is Zongfang."

Sang Yan lowered his eyes in thought, and after a long while, he looked up and asked Ka'er, "Are you trying to use me to deal with Zongfang?"

Ka'er choked, his expression a bit awkward, but then he said candidly, "Your brain is quite sharp, worthy of being my teammate."

Sang Yan didn't know when he had become part of his team.

Ka'er crossed his arms and said, "Using you is a bit of a strong word; I just want you to hold Zongfang back when you have the chance, so he doesn't always guard Sui Sui without leaving her side. But if you don't want to, forget it; I don't like forcing people."

"I can do it."

Ka'er raised an eyebrow, examining the Sang Yan before him with interest.

Sang Yan said to Ka'er with a serious expression, "I just want to chat with her occasionally; being able to see her is enough."

Ka'er originally hadn't been wary of Sang Yan at all, but hearing him say this now, he felt a bit of regret for his own impulsiveness. Sang Yan was usually quiet, but he was very sincere with people; over time, even he couldn't bear to bully him. Sui Sui was soft-hearted; was it really right to put someone who could win her favor so subtly by her side? It seemed he really had been angered into a stupor by that old guy Zong Yan, played around by him, and finally detained in the Federation; by the time he came to his senses and realized he was stalling for time, Zongfang had long since taken Sui Sui and left.

Daddy's boy.

Unbelievable!

Ka'er waved his hand, dispelling the irritation, and reneged, "I was joking, don't take it seriously."

He ignored Sang Yan's dimmed eyes and turned to go to Qiao Suisui's room; upon reaching the door, he heard Laiboli's voice from inside.

"Still not awake? She's been asleep for a day and a night; at least wake her up to eat something before sleeping again."

Zongfang said, "She is exhausted, just let her sleep."

Luka glanced at his watch, used the central control to inquire about the situation outside, and upon learning that the Flying Ship had landed safely and that everything was prepared in the Huangting, he said, "I'll go wake her."

The door of the Medical Pod was opened after the airbag was released, and the man's tone, which previously had no emotional fluctuation, became gentle in the next second.

"Sui Sui, we've arrived."

Luka stroked her hair, kissed her eyes lightly, and called her name in a low voice.

But the person sleeping peacefully had no reaction.

Zongfang frowned, immediately sensing something was wrong; he strode over, took her hand, and called out, "Qiaoqiao, wake up."

Laiboli reacted quickly, shouting for the Medical Team outside to come in. Ka'er rushed in, somewhat panicked, knelt by her pod, and cupped her face in his hands, "Darling, don't scare me." Ka'er looked at the men around him and roared, "Didn't you say she was fine?"

Zongfang couldn't hear what the others were saying at all, only quickly and meticulously performing an examination on her.
