Chapter 290: A Day in the Life of CEO Qiao (Part 6)
Luka held her tightly, the long-accumulated anxiety being scattered to the winds by her vivid presence.
Qiao Suisui pressed against him, her chin resting on his chest, tracing his brows and eyes. "Why are you suddenly so passionate?"
One had to know that Luka was the most conservative of the bunch.
He didn't speak, his gaze glued to her as he pinned her back onto the bed.
"It wasn't that I wasn't passionate before, but that I was afraid you couldn't handle it."
Qiao Suisui's ears grew hot, and she pretended to look away; this topic was a bit dangerous.
But she still couldn't escape the man's gentle offensive. This time, she felt a different Luka.
After the ordeal, Qiao Suisui lay on the bed, satisfied, while Luka's gaze remained firmly fixed on her.
Because the status in the game could be set, he had no way of knowing whether she had been eating properly lately, but he didn't want to pry into those details, fearing she would become impatient, and fearing that he would let his imagination run wild from the clues in her words, leading to thoughts that would cause him pain.
Luka knew she must have suitors in the modern world; this was beyond doubt, and there were likely many. But he had been trying his best to avoid knowing information in this regard.
But Laiboli was the polar opposite of him.
He would interrogate her about every little detail, and when she got annoyed, he would coax her with soft apologies, then make her beg for mercy until she couldn't take it anymore, all to confirm that she wouldn't change her heart and that she loved him. Of course, the next day he would inevitably still be chasing after her with humble apologies, only to do it all again next time.
Luka saw she was sleeping deeply and didn't want to disturb her, so he got up gently, adjusted her clothes, and ordered the royal kitchen to make her favorite food. Then he returned to the room and sat in a chair, watching her quietly.
Now that the other men didn't know she was back, this was a rare moment that belonged solely to him.
He had expected the first one to arrive would be Zongfang, so when Luka saw Sang Yan standing at the door, he was slightly surprised.
"Do you want to come in?" he asked.
But Sang Yan shook his head and said with a silent mouthing: "Let her sleep."
After saying this, he didn't leave. Luka realized he had something to discuss, so he tucked the blanket in for Qiao Suisui and walked out.
Sang Yan told Luka everything about the day he had witnessed Qiao Suisui having. The man smoked cigarette after cigarette; through the swirling smoke, he couldn't quite see Luka's expression, but he could feel that his current state of mind was extremely unstable.
After a long while, Luka asked: "Has she been living like this for the past while?"
Sang Yan nodded: "Most likely. Otherwise, she wouldn't have started having stomach pains. She is much thinner than when she was here, she doesn't like to smile anymore, and apart from what she absolutely has to say, she doesn't seem to like talking either."
Sang Yan recalled the decor he had observed in her home and added: "There are no ingredients in the fridge. Although the house is very clean, there are very few things; she must have been living alone for a long time."
"Then who takes care of her?"
Sang Yan shook his head: "It seems like no one. And I found a type of medicine by her bedside. I didn't recognize it, so I memorized the name."
Luka glanced at the words on it; he didn't recognize them either, so the two had to go find Zongfang.
Inside the laboratory, Zongfang took off his gloves, his voice devoid of fluctuation, as if he were doing something very boring but necessary.
"Based on the name alone, all I can detect are sleep-inducing and anti-anxiety components. Why, who is taking this?"
Luka fell silent, his entire body tensing up in an instant.
Sang Yan felt like he could barely breathe, but he still explained dryly: "This is the medicine Sui Sui is taking. Looking at the quantity, more than half is already gone."
Zongfang's back stiffened, his silver pupils shrinking violently; his previously indifferent attitude was shattered in an instant.
"Who did you say?" Before Luka and Sang Yan could answer, Anubis burst in, panicked: "Laiboli is arguing with her!"
Inside the palace.
Qiao Suisui looked at the man in front of her who was already hysterical, her eyes full of incomprehension.
"I did forget the date yesterday, that was my fault, but I'm here today."
She sat in a chair, and Laiboli knelt before her, his arms braced on the armrests of the chair, trapping her within his perimeter.
"I didn't ask for your apology! I want to know where you went yesterday, what you did, who you were with, and why on earth you forgot!"
Qiao Suisui was no longer the little girl she once was; she was extremely repulsed by such questioning. Her expression turned cold instantly, and she sat there without speaking. Seeing this, Laiboli's heart sank; he knew she was truly angry. He stood there stunned, unable to even recall his usual coaxing words. He kept his mouth open for a long time, unable to say a single word, as if he had lost all his tricks.
Just at this moment, Zongfang strode in. Seeing Qiao Suisui sitting there, and recalling what Sang Yan had seen and heard on the way, he could no longer care about anything else.
He stepped forward and took Qiao Suisui's hand to take her away, but Laiboli hugged her leg, his previous aggressive aura gone. "Don't go yet, let's talk first."
Zongfang didn't waste a word; he raised his hand and used his mental power to knock him back. Laiboli clutched his chest, coughing up blood, his face turning pale instantly, yet he was still pleading: "Don't go, tell me clearly if you are tired of us, will you come less and less in the future, or even forget us entirely?"
Luka and the others also entered, all speechless at the scene. In truth, Laiboli had helped them ask the questions they had been suppressing in their hearts all along.
Qiao Suisui saw their expressions and attitudes and seemed to sense something, so she asked: "Do you all think so?"
Zongfang gripped her hand tightly, but the words of denial couldn't come out.
Luka was thinking about how to say it without hurting Sui Sui's feelings, but he heard someone else speak first: "Yes. I also once thought that if you had a broader world, you would gradually forget me. I could only hope that you would remember us temporarily."
No one expected that the usually silent, good-natured Sang Yan would be so blunt.
Qiao Suisui was also taken aback.
Luka frowned at him, wanting to cut him off: "Sui Sui, he didn't mean it that way..."
But Sang Yan interrupted Luka for the first time in his life: "I did think that before." He walked forward slowly and gently embraced her, his voice choked with sobs: "But I saw it. I know you haven't been taking care of yourself at all over there. Do you know how much I hated you at that moment? I would rather you have a freer and more exciting life than see you work so hard..."
Laiboli was suddenly stunned, a look of confusion appearing on his face as he frowned and asked: "What are you talking about? What happened to her?"
Luka said in a deep voice: "She is taking anti-anxiety medication."
Laiboli's heart felt as if it had been struck by a heavy blow, and his face turned even paler.
Qiao Suisui was a bit surprised, not knowing how they had found out. She said: "It's just that work is too busy and it's easy to have insomnia. When the doctor prescribed this medicine, they said it could help with sleep; it's not that serious."
But no one believed her, thinking she had some serious illness. Especially Anubis, who stood in the corner with intense worry in his eyes, as if Qiao Suisui were some poor little thing who couldn't get enough to eat or wear, living a life like a weed.
But it really wasn't that serious.
Yet the men didn't think so.
They believed she had suffered a great deal out there.
Luka had contacted Ka'er on the way over and synchronized the situation with him; he figured Ka'er was probably already preparing a sack to keep her detained in the game world.
