Chapter 67: I'm Staying
"Don't think I won't kill you." Zongfang spoke coldly, a completely different person from the one who had just been talking to Qiao Suisui.
Ka'er smiled indifferently, wanting to retort with sarcasm, but seeing Qiao Suisui standing to the side with a nervous expression, he didn't want her to be frightened, so he swallowed his words.
With Ka'er, the giant lightbulb, present, Qiao Suisui and Zongfang's conversation couldn't continue. Zongfang only said he would consider it seriously and told her not to overthink things and to get some rest.
For the next period of time, Ka'er was teleported to a desolate wilderness by a single thought from Zongfang. He cursed "Fuck" at the sky and then began to struggle to avoid the annoying bloodthirsty crows; he didn't have a chance to recover from his injuries at all.
Qiao Suisui was still being cared for by Zongfang at every moment, but the man had restrained himself a lot after learning she was pregnant, only holding her to sleep at night and behaving properly, doing nothing else.
Just like this, after an unknown amount of time passed in the space, Zongfang went to check the supplies to see how much longer they could last. Qiao Suisui took advantage of his absence, closed her eyes, held her breath, and focused her mind; the next second, she appeared out of thin air in front of Ka'er.
She saw the man resting with his eyes closed against a large rock. Although he hadn't added any new injuries, his overall state looked quite poor.
"Ka'er."
Qiao Suisui walked over and crouched beside him. After calling him a few times and finding he wouldn't wake up, she took out her medical kit. After bandaging the few wounds visible on the outside, she judged that there must be other wounds under his clothes that she couldn't see, and those were the key.
Ka'er was wearing only a black tight-fitting T-shirt, with his military jacket pressed beneath him. At this moment, Qiao Suisui pinched the corner of the T-shirt and lifted it slightly, seeing the man's abdominal muscle lines appearing exceptionally prominent in the interplay of light and shadow. Ka'er's skin was fair, and his body was like an art piece carved from marble, each block of his abs tight and powerful.
Qiao Suisui's gaze moved downward, seeing three bloodstains spanning across his lower abdomen and groin. The wounds were deep and were still oozing a small amount of blood.
"Have you seen enough?"
She was startled by the man who suddenly spoke. She looked up and saw Ka'er had opened his eyes at some point, a pair of eyes looking at her with a half-smile.
He curled his lips and said, "Do you want to touch them?"
Qiao Suisui had already developed an automatic immunity to his lack of seriousness. She ignored the gaze that was tightly following her, her hands moving quickly and skillfully to take tools from the medical kit to bandage him, focused and dedicated.
Seeing her ignore him, Ka'er wasn't annoyed. He just leaned against the rock behind him, quietly watching her swift but orderly movements. He discovered that her profile was even better-looking than her full face, her features as exquisite as a porcelain doll, her eyelashes like feather fans when she lowered her head.
Ka'er particularly liked the way she looked when she was cold-faced; he didn't know why, but he just felt that this was the real Qiao Suisui. No accommodating weakness, no ingratiating smiles, only "I want" and "I get." Perhaps this was also why he couldn't help but want to tease her.
He first saw her on the second floor of the Xiaolou, when she was carried out from under Zongfang by Luka.
He should have sneered at her, after all, he hated the weak so much.
But he had captured this little female, who had no power to truss a chicken, not even giving Zongfang a single glance, even though that man was injured to protect her.
She huddled in Luka's arms, looking extremely pitiful, but there wasn't a trace of fear in her eyes. She had been calmly observing her surroundings, only showing unease at specific times—that is, when Luka cared for her.
Ruthless.
This was Ka'er's first impression of Qiao Suisui.
Later, when he returned to the Federation to report, her image would inexplicably appear in his mind. Clearly able to write her thoughts on her face without concealment, clearly a person with a very strong sense of self, yet she insisted on pretending to be a sensible little white rabbit... He began to feel curious about her.
He used his authority at the Investigation Bureau to pull up Qiao Suisui's file, surprised to find that her information was actually encrypted. Although females were rare and precious, the Federation wouldn't waste time on such trivial matters, which meant her identity must not be simple.
Ka'er himself didn't know what kind of psychology he was acting out of, but he started spending time searching for her on the Star Network, not letting go of any clues related to her. His work habits allowed him to quickly clarify some conjectures: Qiao Suisui should have met Luka and Laiboli first, and Zongfang was a latecomer, but none of them were her spouse or guardian.
Having made this discovery, Ka'er's mood inexplicably relaxed a bit. He didn't think too much about it and continued to look for traces related to her, this time starting with the people around her. He first clicked on Luka's account, finding that this man was indeed as boring as he had imagined, having never posted anything. Just as he was about to exit, he saw that Luka's follow list had only one person.
Ka'er followed this account and clicked in, raising an eyebrow when he saw the popularity of the homepage.
So many males were following her, could it be...
Just then, his light-brain popped up a message; Luka's account actually had a new update.
Ka'er clicked in and saw photos of various rooms, a smile suddenly appearing on his face.
If one were to say he was calculating, he didn't have any other purpose. But if one were to say he was open and aboveboard, he had indeed approached her intentionally.
"Alright, don't get it wet recently, otherwise it will get infected."
Hearing her voice, Ka'er returned from his memories and saw a bloodstain on her face, which must have been accidentally smeared by the back of her hand while she was bandaging him. Ka'er's fingertips moved, but he saw her stand up the next second.
"I have to go back; it will be bad if Zongfang finds out I'm gone. You'd better go back as soon as possible. Just because he isn't killing you now doesn't mean he really won't." Qiao Suisui put away the medical kit, turned to look at him, and said earnestly: "Tell Luka and Ashi that I'm fine. Zongfang hasn't trapped me; it's me who wants to stay here temporarily."
Ka'er frowned and asked why.
"Do you really like that snake?"
Qiao Suisui didn't answer and told him again to leave as soon as possible.
"If I go out, this space will collapse. By then, you and that... snake will both die here." Ka'er wanted to say "that flirtatious snake," but looking at her clear eyes, he suddenly couldn't speak as recklessly as before.
Qiao Suisui didn't know this and was somewhat dissatisfied. "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
"Is it too late now?" Ka'er stood up lazily, though in reality, it was because his wounds hurt immensely every time he moved. Now was the perfect time to leave; he could exhaust his last bit of energy to take her out, but he wouldn't tell Qiao Suisui that. He just raised an eyebrow, curled his lips, and smiled, his tone teasing and relaxed: "If you come out with me now, that snake will definitely die. No one will pester you anymore, how good is that."
Qiao Suisui's breathing was somewhat unstable. She lowered her eyes, and a few seconds later, she raised her head resolutely and said to Ka'er: "You go, I'm staying." ===== CHAPTER 68 =====
